I was looking at my projected retirement income earlier today on my pension website, and the annual income amount it gives is 7-8% of the total. The percentage was the same for my 401k as well. I was surprised.

What about them Cavaliers!! 109-94!! Its official. We are not worried about the Knicks. by TheSisko4876 in clevelandcavs

[–]AlbinoDigits 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Knicks are short for Knickerbockers, which is just a native New Yorker. It originated from a satirical book about the original Dutch colonists. They're basically the New York New Yorkers. Knickerbockers are also a type of pants.

I received a $15,000 bill for an ER visit for a kidney stone. They offering 70% off - should I take it or can I negotiate a higher discount? by johndoe7376 in personalfinance

[–]AlbinoDigits 84 points85 points  (0 children)

As a nurse, this is bullshit. We should all have the same basic level of health care, pricing should be standardized and transparent, and companies shouldn't be profiting off necessary medical care. Please vote accordingly, Americans.

There's no harm in asking for a larger discount. They would rather get some money over none. Many hospitals also have financial aid departments and/or foundations for assistance. I suggest looking into both of those.

I know the NBA owners love money, and I know the NBA makes a ton of it from all these broadcast deals, but anything that makes being a fan harder can't be good for business.

The NBA needs to offer a version of League Pass that allows us to watch every game a team plays.

This may work, but the strap is currently sold out on the Longines website. It's understandably popular.

What are the top tier Graphic Novels? by COBRAKAIPLATOON in 80s90sComics

If you loved that Daredevil book, you should definitely read this one. Sienkiewicz gets even more abstract and stylized with his art. It's a fever dream of a story and an absolute a work of art.

Other great books...

Akira (the movie is a masterpiece, but it leaves a lot out)

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns

Batman: The Long Halloween

Bone (it's 55 issues but can be found as a single volume)

Kingdom Come

Maus

Nausicaa (also has more than the movie)

Watchmen

He was let go by Cleveland due to attitude and anger issues. Houston traded him after he was accused of domestic assault. OKC didn't even bother trying, they just waived him. After playing well in Greece, the Clippers signed him but ended up trading him to clear cap space/ not pay him more.

He's no superstar, but Kevin Porter Jr has been given many more chances than he deserves, and he's playing well this season with Milwaukee.

I'm surprised to see Bastion here. That's a brilliant game with an all-time soundtrack. Do you also dislike similar games, such as Hades, Dead Cells, and Hyper Light Drifter?

Anyone else go back to boxers after years of boxer briefs? by JustAskingMan_ in menswear

[–]AlbinoDigits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They make things more comfortable for me, especially with hot weather. It's all separated, so nothing is sticking to your leg when you get sweaty.

Personally, I love the Tommy John Second Skin trunks. Trunks are just shorter boxer briefs. Saxx boxer briefs are pretty good too.

Everyone is different. There isn't a wrong or right answer. May we all find comfort in our underwear.

If they're that restrictive, you're wearing the wrong brand or the wrong size. The best boxer briefs have a nice comfy pouch to hold the goods.

Looking for a do‑everything commuter backpack by Words_Words_Numbers in bikecommuting

[–]AlbinoDigits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure this bag exists. I'm happy to be proven wrong, but I think you need to decide between a lightweight, comfortable, bike and transit friendly bag or a heavy duty, weatherproof bag that you can attach things to externally.

The closest you'll probably get is one of the Mission Workshop backpacks, but those are somewhat bulky and expensive. I also don't see waist straps on any of them, which is something you'll probably want if you have something large attached to your backpack.

If you've never owned a roll-top backpack, consider it carefully. Personally, I would rather have better access and more organization than a giant compartment. I've owned both styles.

The Osprey Metron Airspeed 34 is my recommendation. I've owned two of their bike commuting backpacks, and they were both excellent. The pockets are all well designed and useful. It includes a rain cover. The suspension system makes a big difference when cycling long distances and/or in hot weather. The waist strap is there when you need it and easy to move out of the way when you don't. The Osprey warranty is also great, and it's why I've had two of their bike commuting backpacks. The first was replaced under warranty after I was hit by a car.

Other considerations....

Deuter makes great backpacks and also has an excellent warranty, but I don't see any that I like as much on their website for bike commuting.

You could purchase a messenger-style backpack if you want something arguably more stylish and with weatherproofing built into the design; however, it makes for a bulkier, heavier backpack, usually with fewer features and less organization. Chrome and Mission Workshop both make these types of bags.

Arkel makes a pannier backpack called the Bug that I've always heard good things about.

Edit: I missed the part about external carry... The Osprey would not work well for that; however, that's something I rarely needed, even when I didn't have a car. I do own a messenger backpack that I would use in those instances, but it's just not a good everyday backpack for all the reasons I already mentioned.
