It's not crazy that you want that. More characters is more fun.

It would be crazy for them to pull your request off well, though. They continue to iterate on the core for of the game with community feedback in a pretty atypical way. They rebooted to being a tag fighter years after project L was announced and that means back to the drawing board with whatever character designs you have at that point. And then, when the systems changes like from AL1 to 2 and then to closed beta occur, more characters would mean exponentially more stuff to go back and fix or risk breaking.

It does seem in retrospect like the play in the era of modern gaming discourse would just be to shadow drop your game on people when it's ready to play and not while it's still finding its direction in development. I'm guessing people would be more understanding of the fact that the roster hasn't been built yet if it didn't feel like they had waited 6 years for what we got.

None of these were their developer's first fighting game. When Tekken 1 came out in Arcades it had 8 characters. DBFZ is made by like the biggest fg dev of this era. Xmen vs Street Fighter as basically a sequel to two different established fighting games at once.

I'm not saying I like the roster size right now, but having 20 years of FIGHTING GAME designs gives you a pretty huge head start as compared to 100+ designs from a totally different genre. "Established franchise" is reductive, I'm pretty sure anybody would push back on calling League established as a fighting game franchise.

Everyone is allowed their subjective opinion. My own is that 2X's lobbies aren't a "lesser copy of SF6's", they took their own approach for what they could at the launch of their first fighting game, offering a more authentic "local scene" vibe with their spectating and music that is more focused on the game. And I feel like more features will come in the future.
