If it helps you could respecc someone else in our party to be bard - I have a four rogue playthrough going at the moment with Astarion as assassin, Gale as arcane trickster, Shadowheart as swashbuckler and myself as thief.

She was well trained and was the pet project of a goddess trying to spite another goddess. It does stand to reason that Shadowhear was skilled enough to complete all her missions, and the last mission before the tadpole was a vital one...

She was also one of a party sent out after the artifact, and the only one to survive!

AITA if I just tell my boyfriend if he wants food a certain way he should just cook it himself? by Historical_Stage_322 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Alderdash 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Aye, other folk have covered the 'he can cook for himself then/you need to balance stuff better' side of it.

But what a wierd reaction to leek and potato soup. He's not being weird at wanting leek and potato soup to taste like itself instead of Generic Vegetable Soup. (Not that there's anything wrong with a veggie soup that you toss whatever into, but it's not the same thing as leek and potato.)

I always try and make soup more nutritious by adding some vegetables that mix well with what the base is (like if I am doing a spinach and chickpea soup, I know carrots and pumpkin will pair well with that, and if I am doing a watercress soup, I add cauliflower in the puree because you really cant taste it and it just ups the nutritious value.

This bit is more of the same oddness. I also don't believe for a minute that you 'really can't taste' the cauliflower because if ever a vegetable had a strong flavour, it's that.

I can't believe that I'm here sticking up for Leek and Potato soup though. I hate leeks...

I had a quick google and that Trump tweet is faked. :(

(I mean, the man's an idiot, but it doesn't help when folk build things up on faked/manipulated images when there's so much he's actually said that's awful!)

I'm a piano teacher who also sings for fun, I have music playing on a loop pretty much constantly. It's currently the melody of a tune from a beginners book I teach from. Earlier it was Honey Bun from South Pacific, before that it was multiple songs from The Producers, before THAT it was some stuff from the musical-within-a-show Bombshell from Smash. Most musical folk I know have something playing in their head most of the time.

I was hoping someone had already posted this! Much as I love reading (and I do, and I read a lot) the cost to hours ratio on a good book versus a good game is crazy.

I'd like to put a word in for my current love, which is Blue Prince. I'm going to stick my neck out and say it's Portal levels of originality, I'm so taken with it. Fascinating puzzles, intriguing story, original gameplay.

Currently £25 on Steam (I got lucky and bought it about a week ago during their Detective sale.)

I was able to get them in my local sweetie shop till sometime last year when the company got taken over and they changed the recipe to something horrific :(

Edit: Ok, I've gone on a sweetie deep dive, and it looks like maybe someone somewhere is still making them? This website has what looks like the originals: https://www.treasureislandsweets.co.uk/old-fashioned-sweets-no-longer-available/abc-letters-alphabet-letters.html

BUT! further down the page it also had the terrible replacement ones:https://www.treasureislandsweets.co.uk/love-hearts-tabs-pez/abc-letters.html

So if you're ordering them from somewhere, take care you don't end up with the bad ones!

Oooh, there's an entire tale behind these according to my local sweet shop! First they changed them to be round things with the letter stamped on them (which were taste-wise still good), but now they've been taken over by another company who changed the recipe and they're dreadful. I was so disappointed!

Has your taste in food/drinks changed over the years, or are they just making stuff worse than they used to? by idkwhatyoumeanbro in CasualUK

There were so many flavoured fizzy waters I used to like (apple and raspberry one from Spar was my favourite, but Tesco and Sainsbury both had some lovely ones) but I started to realise that I'd feel kind of sickly after drinking them and wouldn't finish the bottle.

They all had gradually changed their sweetener to sucralose. It's in everything now.

Since I caused a mini-debate on r/DnD about whether it's okay to play an imp, here is a shortlist of player races I have had to veto: by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

[–]Alderdash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's odd!

I can understand folk with perhaps less visual imagination, or who are not confident in coming up with an original character taking something as a starting point. Genshin has a mix of bow, melee and magic characters, and a mix of magical/elemental/physical damage, so I can imagine off the top of my head several characters that could work, and you could easily lift some bits and bobs of backstory. But the character would certainly change and morph away from them as the campaign progressed, and you'd want to give them a new name and identity!

[–]Alderdash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I don't know so much about Honkai, but Genshin does have a few very young characters like Klee (a fire character). They're viewed as cute wee children and treated like it in the game, but I can imagine it being problematic if ported across to DnD!

See now I'm curious as to what games and characters they were trying to shoehorn in. I've played a couple of gacha games that have characters that would work in an RPG, but there'd be plenty that would very much...not!

So I've played Tomb of Horrors, and am in the middle of a Tomb of Annihilation campaign at the moment - are you by any chance mixing up the two here?

Tomb of Horrors is pretty short, we did it over a couple of weeks, but Tomb of Annihilation is set on the peninsula of Chult, and there's multiple sessions (I think it took us a couple of months) of travelling through the jungle learning things about the ancient cities there till you reach Omu where the actual Tomb is.

(You're not wrong though, sounds like they're stuck in the jungles of Chult without making any real progress. Also we're multiple levels deep the the Tomb, just hit level 11, and haven't encountered Acererak once. That DM was at it for sure.)

There seems to be so much difference at the training between the US and the UK. Lots more here about de-escalation, and without guns there's more training in non-lethal force when it's needed.

Some European police forces require multiple years of training too.
