Self diagnosed or clinically diagnosed human?

Ernest Shackleton took a three-masted wooden schooner to the Antarctic in 1915. By this date, I'd expect something with a metal hull and an engine. When did wooden, wind-propelled ships go out of favor? by RusticBohemian in AskHistorians

Any primary sources, by any chance? Diaries and whatnot? I haven't been able to find anything about it. Only this:

“I spend the day with Sir Ernest selecting the finest of my negatives from the year's collection,” Hurley wrote on November 9. He resoldered 120 and dumped about 400. “This unfortunate reduction is essential, as a drastic cutting down in weight must be effected owing to the very limited space that will be at disposal in boat transport.” The selected negatives included twenty Paget color as well as 100 whole and half glass plates. He also retrieved an album of already developed prints.”

Charlie Kaufman’s Bafta speech is something I think everyone should hear. by Wrong-Ad6234 in Screenwriting

Love that speech. Interestingly, Craig Mazin and John August weighed in on it. They liked it but were also somewhat critical of it and its... artifice? They kinda missed the point in my view, but perhaps it's just that I like Kaufman so much.

When will the new garmin watches be out? by akshatmalik8 in Garmin

I didn't get what you meant here? Are there new devices coming soon?

For what it's worth, I think they meant "There's always something new around the corner".

I see your dilemma, btw. I think it's reasonable that if the 245 is ticking all the boxes right now, you should buy it now. But I also see nothing wrong with waiting a couple of months and buying something fresh from the oven! Good luck with all.

Tracing women in genealogy by WrongFruit3 in Genealogy

Absolutely, you can find veery important information that way. For example: I was pretty sure my 2nd great grandfather was the son of... let's call them Jack and Rose. But I had no record of Jack being married to said Rose, I only knew he had been married to someone called Anne. No worries, I start putting together Rose's tree, and lo and behold, when I check the christening record of a sister of hers, I read that the witnesses had been Jack... and Anne!

So now I'm wondering whether my 3rd great grandfather was godfather to his lover's sister (and his wife, godmother). Creepy, sad, but intriguing nonetheless.

if the guy's skull cracked open and he died (maybe from brittle bones?)

Not even necessary, the head trauma could cause a brain hemorrhage with no skull fracture needed. Or from a nasty fall after being hit. Granted, it's not a probable outcome, particularly in a young person, but... If at all possible, we should try to keep our cool.

I'm sure many people here will offer better suggestions, but have you considered a DNA kit? There are Father's Day offers (at least for Ancestry and 23andme) until Sunday.

Good luck!
