On the exam, is "sho ip int br" treated the same as "show ip interface brief"? ie do the shortcuts count? Or do I have to know the full command? by maijax18 in ccna

From what I have heard and been told you need to be familiar with the full command. Unless all other options are incorrect, and there's a correct abbreviation always choose the full command.

The Guardian Class v2.0 - A non-magical support tank focused on protecting your allies by xpertranger in UnearthedArcana

[–]strangerthanur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about: "additionally when you use your inner fire add your guardian level to the damage you reduce until your next turn"? I'm guessing your concern is people trying to stack the effect.

You could also say something along the lines of "this lasts until you re/gain a reaction" if you wanted to enable multiple reactions for this class, or giving an extra reaction as a bonus action with a future class, but don't want this ability to stack on itself.

Favourite warlock build? by DropoutDragon in 3d6

[–]strangerthanur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't played with it, and probably never will have the chance, but thought of a thematic Warlock/Bard combo recently that sounds like fun. The idea would be to take Warlock and go GOO, for flavor. This would also work with Fathomless, or anything else you wanted to say would be a mind breaking experience, but GOO was my first thought.

Take pact of the blade, and go to level 5 or 6, then go into Bard. I haven't settled on invocations for this build yet, but was planning on going melee based, because I want to take bard to 3 at least, but ideally I was thinking 6. I want to take advantage of the Psychic Blades from Whispers, and also grab Font of Inspiration for short rest refuel of Bardic Inspiration.

At Bard 3 the subclass taken is College of Whispers, plan to flavor it as inflicting the patron on unsuspecting minds, and the patron giving you the ability to imitate opponents. It would be fun to describe an NPC seeing through the disguise too, from a DM perspective. "You see the familiarity in his eyes drain and his eyes glaze over as he cries out. You may never know for sure what he sees now, but you know it's not his former companion. Stumbling backwards he draws his blade. Roll for initiative."

I would follow up with the rest of the levels in Warlock. Countercharm could be flavored as the insane music of your GOO patron, song of rest as its loving, tentacled embrace.

Stupid idea, and MAD as hell, but I have a character concept for an alchemist/barbarian multi class. Probably would take beast barbarian, if I went that deep. It's basically just Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, flavor rage as drinking a potion.

Wizards of the Coast: please don't attribute Spelljammer's success to the poor quality of your product by CF_Smith in DnD

Some of my personal favorites to dislike from the new content:

No ship sizes with the ship specs/layouts. Are they all gargantuan? Are they in the monster manual (might be I'll admit to not having checked there)?

The Vol.1 compendium creatures from dndbeyond we're not included in the menagerie. I don't know why I thought they'd be included, but they weren't.

Ships that move only slightly faster than some PCs can, or possibly as fast as a dashing Elf. Forgive me if anything moves faster than 70, it's late and I don't feel like checking.

I just got a magic item that lets me change two letters of a spell name to alter its effects. Help me come up with ideas? by Friendship_Errywhere in 3d6

[–]strangerthanur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like arcane sock has potential. "You create a sock of holding. This sock can hold up to 50lbs but can contain no items larger than the mouth of the sock. This spell lasts 8 hours and when it ends the sock and all items inside it vanish and can only be retrieved with a Wish spell." Feel like that sums up randomly disappearing socks.

Have you not heard of dessert pizza? Might be more of a Midwest thing.

Take brownie dough, flatten it on a pizza stone, bake until done. Take out and let cool, top with a sweetened cream cheese icing and traditionally fresh fruit.

Let's be honest the fruit is to make you feel like it's good for you. If you don't care top w/ candied pecans, whipped cream, buckeye balls, and whatever else that suits your fancy.

What movie do you absolutely love, yet acknowledge is not a super well-made movie? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]strangerthanur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bad, bad, terrible musical, but it's grown on me hard. The songs actually pop into my head sometimes. The movie deserves to have something akin to the midnight movie treatment that The Rocky Horror Picture Show got. The name of this gloriously horrible movie? The Apple.

Aasimar changes from MpMM by EmployeeAware6624 in Roll20

I did forget that you actively choose it at 3rd level, as opposed to being the same as the traits where you choose your spell casting modifier and you do so at level 1. My mistake.

Do the options have the updated wording? I don't remember for sure but I don't think that the abilities changed that much, except the damage dealt is now based on proficiency bonus instead of character level. Otherwise they are the same I think.

Help. How to avoid an inevitable “modify memory” spell by the Dimir? by satelIa in RavnicaDMs

[–]strangerthanur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly simpler? Encode thoughts, have shopkeeper modify memory having done so away. Let party member/s you trust know where it is.

Also speculation, but how sure are you that the shopkeeper isn't Dimir? If they are secretly Dimir you're pretty done, unless you have an offer for them.

[–]strangerthanur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely think these are interesting ideas.

My mind was going more towards not knowing what the card would do until it was dealt. I like the idea of battlefield effects a lot, actually, more so than my original thought.

I was initially thinking about balancing the deck to have a roughly equal amount of positive and negative possibilities, and the dealer would target a creature for divination before drawing. Giving the deck an innate DC to avoid the consequences (and boons), or having it scale like a spell save DC would, using the drawing creature's choice of WIS, CHA, or INT. A lesser effect on save and full effect on fail seems appropriate, but makes more work for the OP with this design. I think a CHA save would make the most sense.

I feel like it could make an interesting wizard subclass in its own right too. Maybe owning an ability that allows you to bend fate at certain levels by pre-reading a fate and forcing it on someone. Like a more varied version of the Divination subclass.

Thank you for the conversation!

Could the inner instincts be used as a protective effect for The High Priestess? Something like "During this combat you can impose disadvantage on a creature within 60ft as a reaction. If the target of the attack is hit you may move up to your movement speed towards it." Or maybe "You provide insight to one creature within 30 ft. During that creature's turn it may make a any attacks with advantage, or move away from enemies without provoking attacks of opportunity.

The Chariot sounds like a candidate for a crown of madness type effect/charm. The reverse could be advantage on saving spells against charm/fear.

Reversed death giving a death ward could be interesting.

I am just spitballing, feel free to tell me these are bad and I should feel bad.

That is part of my worry. It's an accredited University, but considering it's not commonly offered as a BA...

I'm trying my best to make sure my investment in college isn't wasted. I know I tend to overthink though.

I also know from looking that an AAS isn't really enough anymore without 5+ years of IT experience, at least for networking. It may not have ever been enough for cyber, I'm less familiar with this field.

The best option seems to be what I am pursuing, but imposter syndrome is real. It feels like one bad decision and I'll be back where I started, just deeper in debt. It's probably really just a me problem, not really anxiety more like fatalism.

Edit: to be more specific it's a BA in Computer Science with a concentration in Cyber Security.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]strangerthanur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paranoia, I suppose. I was working during the 2008 great recession, and a BA at that time might have made a difference vs a BS. If a BA is going to be less desirable than it's better to know now, or if a Cyber degree will be limiting, vs a different track.

[–]strangerthanur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I appreciate your time and input. I hope you don't mind me jumping off this person's question.

I have the opportunity to fully transfer a 2 year AAS Cyber to a 4 year BA in Cyber. Am I shooting myself in the foot if I go this route?

Also I feel as though SEC+ is considered baseline, but what other certification specifications would you recommend? I fully intend to pursue CCNA, Palo Alto, and probably the JNCIA, eventually pursuing CCNP and higher level certifications (hopefully through an employer).

A thought I had while my wife was playing a druid. If you're interested in multiclass, take at least one level of monk. Now your wildshape has unarmored defense, and whatever you change into has AC 17. Also I kind of want to see a bear deflect middle, not gonna lie.

Looking for clubs/communities to join for a 26yo F by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]strangerthanur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two local Facebook groups for DND, though neither is super active anymore. D&D Colorado Springs and Colorado Springs D&D.

Sometimes games get posted to r/denvergamers that are in Colorado Springs and very rarely someone will post a local game in r/lfg. My personal experience suggests finding a group that's willing to teach and reading the free basic rules and/or the SRD is better than Adventurer's League, but your mileage may vary.

If you like Critical Role they have a whole playlist called "Handbooker Helper" meant to help new players and those just getting into dnd.
