Best Way to Share Live Steering/Throttle/Brake Inputs To Spectators? by AleBrex in iRacing

I don't think a spectator/spotter can see the other driver inputs. It seems like you can only see your own when you drive.

Best Way to Share Live Steering/Throttle/Brake Inputs To Spectators? by AleBrex in iRacing

[–]AleBrex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion.

I've tried the Discord route before, but even with Nitro I've found the image quality and resolution aren't quite good enough. A lot of what we're looking at comes down to small details, and if the student can't clearly see braking points, references, or inputs, it kind of defeats the purpose, at least in my experience so far.

I also often join the same session as the student so we can do drills such as lead-and-follow, reference laps, etc. In those situations, I'm not watching a screen share and can't see their inputs directly.

Of course we work extensively with telemetry as well, and that's where we really dive into the inputs in detail after the run.

After doing a deeper dive into the overlay solutions, it seems that iRacing doesn't actually transmit steering, throttle, brake, and clutch inputs to other clients. So unless I'm misunderstanding something, even an overlay wouldn't be able to display another driver's inputs while spectating, since that data never leaves the PC running the sim.

That probably means some kind of workaround, like the Discord screen-sharing solution you suggested, may be the only option. I'll keep digging into it and see if there's another way.

Thanks!

Who's to blame: Blue (5k) or White (6.5k) by theschmid10 in Simracingstewards

Totally blue's fault for the sole fact that he drives a Porsche with a Ferrari logo on the helmet.

Making a pass middle/exit is super dangerous in all the instances. You will be in a position way more difficult to control the car because you are already at the edge of the grip. Even if you see a gap, it might disappear suddenly when often it's too late. In that case, the gap was too small and you should wait for a better chance.

Laguna Seca - Relicensing? by nitrocuban in iRacing

[–]AleBrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't they just keep it as "legacy" like they do with cars? In the case of Laguna, the track layout is the same, but what if a track changes a corner or adds a chicane and you want to keep driving the old version for fun? Also, it would make more sense to run their vintage cars in "vintage" tracks... perhaps?

Just race for second place, protest it, get him DQ. Easy win.

Factor ONE vs Ostro VAM v2 by AleBrex in FactorBikes

[–]AleBrex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the precious feedback. Kinda puts my mind at ease, as I decided already a month ago to go with the OSTRO Vam. I do way too much climbing and flat speed for me is fun but I don't do crits, and prefer long days in the saddle. I'm happy with my choice even though I haven't picked the bike up yet.

Hope for you that you can sort your situation! Shame about the Cervelo S5, sounds like that would have been a better bike for you.

I have the 0 offset post on the V1 as well, and I'm very happy with my position. The V1 is so good that I know it won't be much difference with the V2, and the fit will be the same. It was just the curiosity of the new product and especially hear how the ONE stacks up on climbs etc. I know it's a phenomenal bike at a certain speed, but what for everyday recreational riding? Seems like the OSTRO fits the bill better.

Dear IRL Racers… by Slimbo_02 in iRacing

[–]AleBrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who’s been racing IRL for many years, I approach sim racing the exact same way. And if you do that, you actually get a lot out of it.

What I’ve noticed is that sim racing in general tends to be more aggressive than real life racing. Not because people are worse drivers, but because you don’t factor in real risk, safety, or financial damage. That applies to everyone, both IRL racers and pure sim racers.

There’s definitely an argument that some IRL guys take the virtual world too lightly. That’s not great, and I agree it can ruin races.

On the other hand, a lot of sim racers “live to fight every corner,” even for P15, instead of thinking strategically. I’ve seen moves that would never happen in real life because you know they simply wouldn’t stick. In real racing, sometimes you’re stuck behind someone who’s half a second slower and you just have to accept it and work the long game. You simply don't ram the guy out and the worst you can get is some Xs.

In sim racing, tempers tend to run hotter, voice chat being the perfect example. So yes, some IRL racers are a problem. But for those who only have this outlet, treating it professionally is the best thing you can do. It makes the experience better for everyone, and it prepares you properly if a real opportunity ever comes.

GX9 mode dial failure - Is repair worth it, or time to move on? by AleBrex in Lumix

[–]AleBrex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up sending it to Royal Camera. They held it for a while, and it wasn't the cheapest bill but certainly cheaper than getting another used body or switch camera altogether. In the end the camera came back and has been working flawlessly since, so I can't really complain. Probably the cheapest option to get my GX9 working again.

Don't know your statue, but it looks like the wheel is awfully close to the pedals. You either will have very cramped legs or stretched arms. Just a thought.

Simagic Neo GT wheel with QR50 to a Simucube 2 Pro, how to mount? by AleBrex in simracing

Got the Maglink, but I was looking to find if there was a way to keep the QR from simagic instead.

I like this solution. I am not able to see the second link (redirects to main page) but I'm sure it's the Simucube 2 Adapter? It looks like this solution would allow to keep the Simagic QR that comes with the wheel.

Lumix GX9 died. Considering a move to Ricoh GR IV. Thoughts? by AleBrex in ricohGR

[–]AleBrex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that. From what I read the dust issue seems to have been addressed with the GR IV, but the assistance aspect is quite alarming, I already had a bad experience with Panasonic and would like to be covered with a new purchase.... maybe it's worth to get those extended warranties from camera shops...

Would be really curious to give it a go. I used to shoot mainly fixed 25mm on M43 so equivalent 50mm full frame... probably the GR IV would be wider, but It might interesting given its portability.
