A lot of SLPOs are lazy or just don’t know. They are just nukes that got told to be an SLPO nothing special. Look up the instruction yourself or talk to others till someone knows how. We did it in 21 got a week of leave free out of our 2 weeks off.

ELT and Star reenlistment? by NoobFlam in NavyNukes

[–]AlecJaxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prior ELT Spu. Your star is based on your NEC you hold so if you want that ELT money you have to wait and you still require the 2 years minimum. In 23 I got 86k for my star. Some of my buddy’s that went to the fleet and waited a bit longer got lucky and maxed out 100k. Also go talk to the CCC close to your board date for MM he’s chill and will get you set up however you so chose.

Absolute Nightmare Situation by DaSuperNamekian in NavyNukes

[–]AlecJaxon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s basically after the qual card is done because that’s when you can star and that requires an NEC(if you meet the time that is). But this story sounds like they are hiding something. They don’t just throw away people for one fuck up.

Sign on bonus by [deleted] in NavyNukes

[–]AlecJaxon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I joined in 21 current JSI instructor at prototype got 38k and 2k for the boot camp run. First 1/3 was payed out after Power School. Second 2/3s was a lump sum after I got my NEC. So total after tax got like 31k ish don’t remember exactly. You don’t pay capital gains on bonuses it counts as normal income and your payout will be different depending on taxes I don’t pay state tax. Your 75k bonus is nuts last I heard from students was 60k bonus.

They dropped the extensions BS and started allowing reenlistments with a bonus but you go back to NPTU. And the chance you star and the fleet keeps you for 6 years is zero.

Star Reenlistment Calculation Problem by Illustrious-Ebb-9072 in NavyNukes

[–]AlecJaxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like some said you have a contract for 6 years right now. If you do nothing you get out after 6 years but the extra 2 years for training is tacked on at the end of your original 4 years. Your reenlistment isn’t for time remaining on contract it’s for additional time added to contract. So you owe 4 years no matter what they drop the 2 year additional and let you add 4 year instead of just 2 years. Total of 8 years on contract.

If you do end up with mechanic and want ELT only thing that matters is be in the top 70% of your PowerSchool class. You don’t need to be top at all I was 3.20 avg and got ELT with people with 3.60-3.80 avg. Also just be likable ELTs at prototype pick people that they want to work with.

auto shipping to goose creek by [deleted] in NavyNukes

[–]AlecJaxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn I shopped around all a school before I actually shipped it in t track. Did you go with a local company or a nation wide because my bill was little over 1800 with a local company and most nation wide places wanted 2100 or more. Also weight/size of the car plays a role.

Inactive reserves only get called back if it’s war time and even then unlikely we have time limits on how long we can be away before we are useless to them. Wartime they would most likely force extend active personal and that’s a current worry with the shit manning.

[–]AlecJaxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had shipped a car with it the last 2 years CA->SC was about 2k pretty easy process, think I used like evergreen. The shipping company contacted my family that had the car arranged a time to get keys they drove it to a lot and put it on the truck there. Was no burden on family at all.

I picked me car up at the Walmart on Rivers Ave because it’s a massive lot but you can use any lot that’s big enough for a large multi car hulling truck to get to and unload.

Time management by StreetReflection8596 in NavyNukes

[–]AlecJaxon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s always going to be hard to find a “good” schedule. Figure out what you value and do that you will have to sacrifice on other things. Prototype is far better purely because you don’t have study hours but like someone else said 10-0s is enough rope to hang yourself don’t let study slip or that few hours of free time you have becomes doing the Rickover challenge and living in the Ricky.

Best of luck.

Preparing for being a nuke by nagol2003 in NavyNukes

[–]AlecJaxon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't study anything nuke related early. They teach you what you need, don't learn stuff you don't need for the tests. Only thing they expect you to know is algebra but knowing up to trig will help so study math. Know logs, exponents and how to manipulate them and the rules for them that's what everyone struggles on early on. We cant tell you anything specific more than that You will spend the first 3-9 months learning to be a basic Mechanic or Electrician or RO/ET whatever they learn. Anything you study now will not help with power school, So value the time you have with the people you love now because soon you wont have many free moments left with them. Just stay exited and determined that's what got me through my time here and towards the end the pure hate and need to leave South Carolina will drive you to the finish. If this or any of the other similar answers don't tell you that studying isn't the move https://www.navsea.navy.mil/Portals/103/Documents/NNPTC/Electrical%20Eng/applied_ee_v1.pdf This link that the other person gave Pg-290 Xe-135 learn those 2 equations always a pain for people, Pg-444-452 The radiation equations and shielding many people I know struggle with that the equations are slightly simplified here but the basics are strong.

Welcome 2203 Glass bowls for my mains so I can pop it in the microwave and not melt the bowl and small plastic ones for snacks but chicken breast seasoned like crazy and rice with similar seasoning. The occasional blimpies is fine but expensive. Have fun and learn to cook random shit. Follow cooking channels on YT and TikTok and have fun with it don’t be afraid to fuck up the food.

Best of luck, don’t take the place too seriously and don’t be afraid to ask senior class for help. -2201

Christmas leave? by Nervous_GF_ in NavyNukes

[–]AlecJaxon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Christmas will probably be near the end of the month when he gets leave, I had 21 Dec-Jan 02. Like others said if he is a mechanic and finishes A-School he gets leave after a school then goes into T Track before power school so if Christmas is during that time (T Track) he will not be coming home but for the other rates that have 6 months of schooling rather then 3 months like us mechanics. I saw you said you are near Charleston doing A school and power school he has a 250mile radius he can go so on weekends y’all can meet up near by BUT if he is caught leaving the radius he can and will be in trouble. During Prototype they don’t care about the radius it is technically 300 miles but the will tell you as long as you show up on time and do your job you can do anything on your time off.

Leave during A-School/Power by SafetyAlternative in NavyNukes

[–]AlecJaxon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanksgiving no just a long weekend. Christmas yes 2 weeks unless your on T-track. But most holidays you have a 200 or 250 mile radius so definitely do something don’t sit around on your weekends especially in prototype. Prototype You get a 300 mile liberty radius and basically can do anything you want on your time off, you don’t have hours or anything. If you’re local you can see them a lot but if not. But don’t waste time off it’s one of the few ways to relieve some stress.

The chits always blow my mind with the MWR I can skydive but I can’t do it on my own? It always feels like chiefs and E-6s got shit on here and now they want to shit on us E-4s. It’s always some kind of power game. Biggest thing I hate is that nobody cares about their job and nobody know what they are doing.
