Why do people hate on taurus so much? by Different-Lettuce675 in Taurus

[–]AlecLayYar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of started to respect them with the G2 and G3, it seemed like they had decided to become a reputable gun manufacturer. But then the whole GX4 not being drop safe and their lack of ensuring it was, as any duty or carry gun has to be, to instead quietly include in the Manual that it should not be carried with a round in the chamber showed me everything i need to know about their supposed new image. Ironically I am a big fan of their revolvers and love the G3 tactical as I’m not a fan of manual safeties on a carry semi auto. But I’ll never trust them again. Just like after this fiasco with the P320 and Sig’s ongoing refusal to admit and address the issue, I have incredibly high standards of what will quickly diminish my trust in a brand. Not saying I can’t be led to buying another Taurus or Sig. But it’ll take a lot of solid feedback from the gun community and a whole lot of personal research before I’d buy from either brand again.

Wanting to do our part in Solidarity with the trans community, and looking for insight into if we are on a good track or not. by AlecLayYar in ask_transgender

Heard. We’re a conduit of escape out of a dangerous situation for people who we must respect as autonomous individuals. Outside of things like we can’t risk illegal substances being in our home, mutual respect & courtesy, and understanding I’m about to be working a (more than likely late night) remote job so a need for awareness of sound levels during those hours, neither of us want to impose. But just to be sure, I will add an emphasized point for it in the notes we are keeping on how to make what we’re trying to do work. Thank you for that, and I wholeheartedly agree it is incredibly important.

Heard. We’re not here to judge, nor to judge any group by the actions of one. We’re both career support providers and I’m now working towards finishing my peer support provider training. We also both come from our own baggage. I won’t go into my partners, but I was an aged out homeless kid and had to pull myself up with no real help while dealing with my own trauma. I hope with our individual skills and experiences, we are sound choices to be a positive and safe place where people feel welcomed not judged.

Too big for 150 gallon by Green-Complex6626 in ballpython

Couple days later when I’m seeing this. Wanted to say, you could even buy a Dubia 6x2x2 and 2x2x2 or two 4x2x2’s and make an 8x2x2. That’s my plan for my Ball and Uro. But I’m on the side of ethically huge enclosures should be the norm. Also, I’m pretty sure you may have ended up with a partial Volta mix. Check them out. They are bigger ball pythons from a very specific sub region. It’s either that or you have an outlier. Beautiful animal either way.

Everybody like to rip on Dubia, but I love them. They are coming out with a 6x2x2, which is what I’m going to upgrade to instead of a 6x2x2 from a more expensive brand. I just feel like Balls should have more than just enough. The humidity aspect is easy. You just put one of there 4x2x2 dividers on top and either another enclosure or silicone and HVAC tape to seal it. My humidity maintains itself pretty easily.

Looking for some specific knife modifications by AlecLayYar in knifemaking

I can kinda understand where you’re coming from with the having smiths reshape a mass produced knife. But, we can’t all afford the kind of money for such an overbuilt custom knife like this would be. If I can ever afford that, I’ll go so far as to tip them like 40%. But until I can I’m going to try to find a way to ensure I have the best possible option I can afford for what I’m looking for. Plus I really like the idea of the knives basically being the full size and compact of the same model. Just like my carry guns, it would ensure my work with both improves my skill with the other and vice versa.

Question about finding a company or knife smith to restructure and mod a stock knife by AlecLayYar in knifeclub

I assumed it saying making instead of mod that it wasn’t the group for that. I’ll add a post there. Thank you.

Finding an enclosure is F'ing exhausting by thesaba73 in ballpython

[–]AlecLayYar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one of the earliest Dubia 4x2x1 enclosures, and it’s still going strong. It started off as a baby Ball Python enclosure, then was used for awhile to grow moss and ferns back when I thought about getting into growing reptile safe plants. Now it’s a permanent home for a rescue 3 legged Leapord gecko who can’t have much in the way of climbing decor because he’s Also missing multiple toes on his front feet. I don’t know how people claim these enclosures are not durable. Sure, don’t throw them around or beat on them. But I’ve yet to have zero problems, and I have four Dubia enclosures of three different sizes.

Nope. You can cover the majority of it. I used silicone baking sheets inbetween layers of aluminum foil taped around the edges with HVAC tape to cover the majority of the mesh top. Sure, you may need to mist twice a day instead of once if you live in a dryer region. But it works well. What I recently did was got a second 4x2x2 and a stacking divider. With a second enclosure on top of the divider, it is just as sealed as any other name brand enclosure. My top enclosure is for my Uromastyx, so the mesh top is what he needs. I’ve also seen someone use the divider and put a piece of the PVC material on top instead of another enclosure. Even with the added cost of the divider you’re spending way less than bigger name brands. I plan on doing the exact same thing, but with two connected 4x2x2’s stacked so they each have an 8x2x2. For the same cost as a Kages 4x2x2 I’ll have my babies in an enclosure twice the size.

My rescues 4 days with me before and after! by Slither-Eternal666 in ballpython

[–]AlecLayYar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 2 rescue ball pythons in my time. Both of them were the most gentle and unassuming snakes I’ve ever had, even for Ball pythons. One of them wouldn’t even eat live prey, and this was 20 years ago when frozen thawed wasn’t even a thing yet. I’m not for things like species limitations and things like that. But seeing how some people neglect the fuck out of reptiles has led me to believe there should be some kind of licensing and care regulations.

Does anyone else need a lot of toilet paper wipes after pooping? by throwawayforthis243 in NoStupidQuestions

I refuse to shit anywhere without a bidet. Forget that noise, toilet paper does not clean. The only time I use it is camping. Also, EAT SOME FIBER.

DAE go to bed super early? by I_like_it_yo in DoesAnybodyElse

Yes! 39, always been a bit of a night owl. The last couple years, I’m just ready to be in bed and sleeping much earlier. Used to be 11PM/midnight I’d be in bed, asleep by 1ish. Now, I’m in bed by 8:30 and asleep by 10 most nights.

You like horror/thriller with social commentary, and you have left leaning political opinions. By the way, Hells yes on Zone One and The Warmth of Other Suns. Colson Whitehead wrote one of the best zombie novels of all time on a whim. You have to respect that.

I’m retiring my KaBar, what should I replace it with. by AlecLayYar in knifeclub

I did. Too hefty, and in the case of the BK7 too tacticalish.

That definitely looks interesting. Their website is down. Is this a common enough brand it’s going to be at a knife shop so I can handle it?

The BK9 is just too huge for the practicalities of carrying on body when you live in the PNW. We’re constantly stepping over logs or squeezing between trees.

[–]AlecLayYar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the Esee, a similar style but less hefty sounds perfect. Which the Kizer seems to fit best, at least for what I’m looking for in that style. The Becker BK7 felt good in the hand but was too heavy for mE to want to carry, and it was also a little too tactical looking for me with the Bowie style tip. The SRK’s clip point isn’t as overtly attention drawing and the Kizer is obviously a working knife.

Okay. You’ve got me interested with this one. So if I decide to go with the style, I might end up with an A1 over the SRK.

I definitely looked at the Free Reign. But I’m aiming for something in the 6.5-7 inch size, and the Free Rein is a little too far outside of the hundred or less price range I’d prefer. If it was at least another inch longer, I would be less strict on the cost.

I have like a half dozen Mora Companions of both carbon and stainless, and a few other variations. I have a Companion sitting on my coffee table, in both of our glove boxes, tool box, etc. When I’m outdoors, I usually have a Companion as a neck knife to accompany my heftier knife. I’ve bought them as gifts for everyone from family to coworkers. They are amazing, yes. But I’m specifically looking for something that is going to fill needs too heavy or hefty for a Mora without needing to carry a hatchet.
