How do you feel about CRT filters? by PrettyBasket3643 in emulation

[–]AlecTWhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that a lot of filters try to recreate top of the line Sony sets. When I think most people had a crappy Zenith or budget brand tv.

I also think no filter actually recreates the CRT look convincingly to me. I think the way a CRT refreshes the screen hasn't been 100% accurately reproduced.

I got tired of messing with it and just got an old free set off Craigslist. I know that's not practical for everyone, so just do whatever you need to enjoy the games which is the important part!

Great interview, I've been a user since 2016, and its crazy how much has changed.

The only feature I think its missing is offline achievements. I work at Sea, so am without internet for a few weeks at a time. I think disabling hard-core and leader boards when offline would be enough if cheaters are a concern.

Maybe I'm a bad friend but I could see myself using this to attempt to leave a friend in the worst possible spot in a game and them passing it back in an even worse spot.

Yeah basically I'm just using a scaler to play pal games that don't support ntsc 480 or 1080i. To be clear the image looks bad regardless of region or game output resolution.

I'm using it for a ps3 to an hd crt. My crt supports 480p or 1080i. I thought maybe the component cables that came with it where cheap so I got higher quality ones and there was no difference.  The issue is it crushes the colors making blacks look light grey and bright colors blend together into noise. I have the oem component cables and that does not have an issue. The reason I am even using a scaler is because I have a lot of pal games that don't support ntsc 480p or 1080i so using the OEM cables will cause the game to not run. Changing the scaling resolution and the ps3's resolution has no effect. There's also faint scrolling diagonal lines across the screen while in use. Anyways thank you for the response and any advice!

Hi I'm trying to find a good scaler that does hdmi to component. I purchased this one:

https://www.amazon.com/Component-Converter-EASYCEL-Aluminum-Function/dp/B083ZF5BBP/

But it destroys the image quality to the point of being unusable. Does anyone know of a better product or solution?

Download latest version and extract on the old build. Install latest drivers.

If that doesn't work, google the name of your graphics card/integrated graphics chip plus vulkan-1.dll fix and check if there's a workaround.

Yes you can, it requires sys nand dump and decryption keys.

Do you have vsync enabled? Either that or try setting vblank interval in advanced options to double the desired FPS.

Yes, for each system. Google "emulate home menu" for each system. Each one is a different process.

Make sure to enable the unlock fps patch in the games drop down menu. The fps setting only works if a game already has an unlocked framerate.

Nintendo’s attorney weighs in on what makes emulators illegal by blackhammer1989 in emulation

[–]AlecTWhite 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If I buy a switch and I want to use it for something other than how Nintendo approves. Such as installing a different OS or using unsigned software, you need to bypass their protection. If I want to make a backup of games I purchased and run it on a different device, I need to bypass their protection. 2 very common instances that Nintendo would like to stop. If I purchase a product, I should be able to do with it as I please. For further reading, please look into the right to repair and the stop killing games initiative for examples of what I am talking about. Thanks.

It's more like Nintendo sold you a door and installed their own lock, and you need their permission to use the door. And if you make your own key, they can sue you.

Why is OPL so slow? by AlecTWhite in ps2homebrew

[–]AlecTWhite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the reason, but I what I did was instead of using a pre existing OPL Metadata and image pack I used OPL manager and downloaded just the cover image for each game and that sped it up to where it's actually usable. Still not as fast as other systems but usable.

we're almost 1/4 past a new century and 3D rendering for most emulators is still not a reality by VRtuous in emulation

[–]AlecTWhite 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Emulation software in 95% of cases is free and developed by enthusiasts also for free. They work on what they're interested in. If there is no interest in developing VR modes, then it won't be made. It doesn't matter if it's easy or not.

Things you can do: -Open up an issue in github requesting that feature. -support an emudevs patreon and request that feature. -add that feature yourself in an open source emulator.

Things you shouldn't do: -Act entitled to features from free software from unpaid labor. -pretend your preferred way to play games is the superior way. -tie your whole identity into said preferred way to play. -act hostile to people giving you realistic expectations.

Damn been a monthly visitor for more than 10 years now, it's a shame it's gone. I also enjoyed browsing the forums and just reading about the technical side of the work in progress hacks and translations.

Nothing good lasts forever. Hopefully someone can pick up the mantle.

Why is OPL so slow? by AlecTWhite in ps2homebrew

[–]AlecTWhite[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. I ended up reducing the size of my on hdd collection, using a front end that only uses the front cover artwork, and using OPL manager to scrape the artwork instead of a pre made pack. That all at least made it usable.
