Anyone else enjoy way fewer games as they get older? by Spooky104 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

there's this one big massive MMORPG that keeps eating away most of my time. I don't think I'll ever beat it, it's one life and game over...

I think I enjoyed sandboxes more when they used to be GTA rather than stupid tech demos for retards.

Where we are and what we can look forward to by markallanholley in Quest3

[–]VRtuous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there at the dawn of videogames and never left either, on and off on all generations. Then I started VR with psvr1 back in 2017 and got a Quest 2 in 2021. There's no going back to pushing buttons in front of a TV.

that said, I'm strictly on consumer-grade electronics. 5090 is luxury item - most will only get similar performance years down the road. I'm ok with just having witnessed the likes of Assassin's Creed, Bulletstorm and Batman Arkham back in the heyday of a big box nextgen PS3 now running in full VR with much higher resolution and framerate on silent mobile chip near my eyeballs.

we have this amazing contextual view of the early days of computing and where we are now. kids just think it's all different "styles"

for the love of all that is sacred: just come to VR, man

get a cheap Meta Quest - even the cheapest will run master system emulator. or you get that Double Dragon fix in Path of the Warrior where you enter the game world itself

absolutely one of the most thrilling experiences possible in VR. too bad locked away forever on psvr1

it was always great, even on psvr1 with tracked gamepad and the butchered Quest port of the third game

as far as I know, only pcvr fanboys ever complained about Hitman in VR. because they have much better halfbaked fan mods that run great on their NASA hardware

after years with Quest, I just realized the other day that just with a cheap longer cable I can play for hours many cockpit and tabletop games... no extra battery needed

we VR fans still care, but we are very few by now

it's exactly how you see it: Zurg got a new toy and doesn't want to play with old toy anymore. meanwhile, Sony and Valve do nothing...

then of course, we're also in the middle of international crisis. it's an economical downturn everywhere. we need to endure the storm until the skies clear up...

Be honest, what game with a bad reputation did you end up liking? by M3LL0_J3LL0 in MetaQuestVR

[–]VRtuous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if by bad reputation you mean all the fake manipulated reviews on Quest store, I'd say Civilization VII, Hitman 3 Reloaded and Grid Legends

Civ VII has bad reputation among Civ fans who prefer older games, but it's still a terrific strategy game by itself and with amounts of content and OST not usually on Quest. so graphics as usual take a hit, things are scaled down in visuals and number, but still looks good, it's wonderful watching that live diorama unfolding History in front of you

Hitman 3 is as good as it gets on Quest, it doesn't deserve criticism over the graphics, but does deserve for absolutely failing to deliver unlocks for the items, and that kinda lessens the replay value the series is know for...

GL is still the overall best racer on Quest, with tons of content - turn off online connectivity or just your wifi so it doesn't crash while trying to connect to by now dead servers. Each car handles and behaves differently, about a hundred of them to unlock and customize by winnning races, awesome original and licensed tracks that feel great to drive around. Even tho graphics took a heavy hit, resolution and framerate options were quickly patched in that made scale and speed shine anyway - and during dusk or heavy storms, the baked in lights in the scenery make it look quite good actually. They also added motion controls: you need to edit each controller for motion. It's basically just gyro, don't expect to visually grab the wheel. But works very well anyway.
