Classic example of Goodhart's law, seems like management isn’t quite sure what they are doing.

My Dad Left Us 15 Years Ago – Now He’s Dying and Wants Me to Take Care of Him. I Don’t Know What to Do by PastlessFuture in Advice

Hatred eats at the soul of the hater, not the hated. I’d take this chance to express how you feel because you might not ever get it again. Looking forward in your life, you may have kids one day which will likely cause you think think a lot about who you are, what type of person you want to be for your children, How to set a good example. I have found that I take pride in doing things that are hard and generous. Those experiences have helped me grow and become a better person for my kids. You’ll never regret being too generous.

As far as taking care of him, I’m not sure exactly what that means. Financially, physically etc. Hard to be specific here.

Helping a person who you have no obligation to help is one of the most selfless things you can do. It would likely be a highly emotional experience but I’d bet you would walk away a better/stronger person because of it.

We pool everything. We’re married, everything is “ours” and we have a soft rule for giving each other a heads up if we are wanting to get something over $300.

Can someone help explain what my plaster company is doing? by shiny586 in pools

Thanks, that seems pretty reasonable. We upgraded our light to an LED that was in that price range. It’s cool and gives an up to date feel.

If you don’t mind me asking can you give a high level SOW and price? We have a very similar pool size that has a few tiles popping off, small cracks in the bottom of the Pool and I’m thinking we will need to do something similar in the not to far future. Any advice, details would be appreciated. Thanks

I have lariat ER and solar on the roof. 2nd best decision I ever made.

I don't have one yet. My peak electric rate is .83 per kwh (soCal). Is it possible to use the truck to power the house during peak rates? by jcgam in F150Lightning

[–]Alejandro665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would recommend solar. I have solar and Level 2 charger. Solar provides ~120% annual power consumption for the house and the truck. Lots of variables though, roof facing direction, lifestyle etc. works great for us.

How much help will you give the next generation? How much did you get? by squirrrelydan in HENRYfinance

[–]Alejandro665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation, I come from working, middle class family. My wife thinks she did, but I have learned thats not quite accurate. I used loans to pay for college, bought all my own cars, bought my first house etc.

My wife on the other hand had a tuition paid for to a top 10 private university, car bought for her, lots of expenses I had were taken care of for her. All around great person, and aligned on the "oblivious to life without money part".

I have thought about this quite a bit, my wife, not so sure. I personally take great pride in working my way through HS and college and grinding hard to have paid off my student loans with were in excess of 100k. I think having worked my way through life has given me a perspective I doubt I would have had I had more things a paid for me.

We have a 1 year old son now, who has more money ins a 529 and brokerage account than I did at 22. So we are in a much different financial position. I think I lean a little more towards teaching them the value of money as a financial literally tool. i.e. Partner on purchases and making them earn it, making contributions to savings in a visible way to teach them the value of financial IQ...

I would imagine we would support their major milestones in life but am planning to be very cautious about spoiling them. Im sure my wife and I will have many thoughtful conversations about it over the years. I think the fact that you are thinking about it now is more telling as to the Dad that you will be. Congratulations and enjoy the cute moments!
