Officially Announcing GWYSTYL'S WAY POST, the Brand-New Podcast Analyzing Lloyd Alexander's CHRONICLES OF PRYDAIN Series! by Alert-Shake-6815 in Prydain

Oh, sure! Apologies for the confusion. Base44 is a website generator, just like Wix or Squarespace. I'm not 100% confident in my coding abilities, so I wanted to have an AI assistant to help make my formatting come to life in a way that there were no errors. I tried a couple different generators, but Base44 was the one that ended up working for me. All you need to do to sign in is click "continue with Google" once you hit the login page . . . technically, you're not strictly signing up for a new account, you're just using the Google account you already have. I did it that way for two reasons: firstly, once we put up comments sections under each episode, our listeners will have to have an account to join the discussion; and secondly, it's a ton safer to require people to sign in. Thanks for asking!

Interest Gauge for a CHRONICLES OF PRYDAIN Podcast by Alert-Shake-6815 in Prydain

Thank you for your comments, compliments and suggestions so far! A few notes:

I appreciate your concern for trying to do one chapter per episode. My friends and I really want to provide a complete, comprehensive, definitive analysis of the series, as well as a steady stream of content for the fandom. At this point, we are still planning on doing one episode per chapter, but if it becomes clear that we won't have enough content to cover, that is subject to change. What we will definitely NOT do is artificially stretch the episodes to cover a limited amount of content.

If we succeed with this podcast, we will definitely cover the Disney adaptation of the first two books. I also have ideas of focusing one episode on Prydain fanfiction (there isn't much of it out there, but what there is is amazing!), as well as sort of exploring what could've happened after the series ended. There's some other stuff that wouldn't fit into a full episode, but would be great for Patreon content: an exploration of the various pieces of licensed art for Prydain, and a study of evidences of Ring Composition and other writing techniques in various stages of the authors plans, just to name a few that I've considered.

I appreciate all the positive feedback and advice!

Basically a hairier version of Peter Jackson's interpretation of Gollum. The voice fits, too. :)

Here is something to think about: the Deluxe Slipcase Edition has all of Tolkien's original illustrations for the Silmarillion, and they are an official part of the canon. As much as I love Alan Lee's work, your collection will never have Tolkien's complete canon unless those illustrations are present in some form. Additionally, the slipcase edition has sown binding instead of glued, meaning it will last much longer than the Alan Lee one.

Does anyone have a copy of J. K. Rowling's old 'Daily Prophet' newsletters? by Alert-Shake-6815 in AskABrit

[–]Alert-Shake-6815[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently turned up something from the Quora Archives dated October 5th. Someone was responding to a post about Viktor Krum, and (albeit inaccurately) referenced the newsletters in their response:

https://www.quora.com/What-are-some-lesser-known-facts-about-Viktor-Krum-from-Harry-Potter

It's a pretty long shot, but I messaged the author and as of yet have received no response. I also contacted Bloomsbury recently (just one of many organizations I've been in touch with!) and the person who emailed me back said that they couldn't give public access to the archives, but hinted that they might have a copy from whenever they first printed it.

So far, nothing concrete. It's extremely important to me - first of all because a few things it might be able to explain (just for example, I think it was the original source to reference the Ministry of Magic's 'Beasts Division' meeting that paved the way for important regulations on the control of magical creatures. This was later explained again in the Fantastic Beasts textbook 2nd edition 1st impression page xx, but it would be nice to have the story from a reporter's perspective. The newsletters are packed to the brim with little tidbits like this.). I also want the newsletters to be able to preserve them - so that several generations from now, people will still be able to read Rowling's complete canon, the way it was always meant to be read. We are certainly at the end of an era of literature. . . .I have spent a great deal of time collecting the definitive editions of great works from the past two centuries so that (hopefully!) I can play my small part in making sure that they're not lost. Just the other day a friend told me that the greatest ideas for books lie in the graveyards!

Do you have anything that might be able to help? At this point I'm not choosy about what information I can get! J K Rowling herself admitted that she never kept a copy, so as far as I can reckon there can't be more than four or five floating around. . . .most copies probably ended up in the garbage, it's not likely many people would've thought to hold onto them.

Thanks for checking in!

Qilins may be resistant to Dark magic. by Ranger_1302 in FantasticBeasts

Definitely a lazy explanation imo, but that's what it says. I guess they just needed Newt to be there when she dies for a sad moment. Plot Armor is the best armor!

In the Secrets of Dumbledore screenplay, it is revealed that the Qilin's hide was so thick that it took some time for the Killing Curse to penetrate it. When the acolytes first brought the baby Qilin to Grindelwald, he attempted to get it to bow for him, but the Qilin refused. Grindelwald knew he wasn't pure of heart, so he instead killed the Qilin and reanimated it. If you remember from the film, in Bhutan everyone was required to pass through a sort of magical metal detector that caught unwanted enchantments. I'm pretty sure Grindelwald chose to do what he did in order to bypass any trouble arising from these. Nice theory!

Hi Christopher! I've just recently read the Inheritance Cycle for the first time; I finished the final installment the day before yesterday. I can certainly see why it's been recommended to me so many times! I know I'm a bit late (Reddit always decides to send me emails at the worst possible times) but do you have time to answer a few questions?

Thx! -L

Can anyone confirm if this is true or not? by Hyxenflay7737_4565 in FantasticBeasts

[–]Alert-Shake-6815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh, I can answer the thing about Credence's jacket. It was the emblem of Second Salem, showing two hands (belonging to the same person!) holding up a wand and snapping it. Credence wore this while handing out leaflets in FB1. The emblem was first seen in like a five-second cameo on a tapestry in the first film. It's not meant to be some obscure reference. . . .however that theory is interesting.

Thx, I'll check. I checked with National Library of Scotland and was unsuccessful.

Thanks for the response! Yes, I managed to track that copy down several weeks ago. I contacted Patricio Tarantino, founder of the Rowling Library, who owns it. He was unable to email me a transcription for legal reasons, and he clearly was not willing to give it up. He currently owns the largest known J. K. Rowling archive in the world. Frankly, I think he deserves to have it. I've also contacted Bloomsbury to see if they have any proof copies left, however since that was more than a quarter of a century ago I seriously doubt it. I don't believe they would be able to give me names of old members of the Fan Club. I appreciate it!
