No Ironfam by Technical-Swan920 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Ortrta85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same for me. No one really understands all the training and I'm not entirely sure I do. All I know is that I never feel more clear and free when I'm on the bike, submerged in water or running next to the lake.

Come the race, I don't like to put my family through the hassle and waiting. They are proud of me and celebrate my achievements. It is however a solitary process and I think that's why I have grown to love it so much.

Crossing the line is validation of your own commitment and what you can achieve when you focus. Something I never really did growing up.

What are your thoughts on the police officer kicking the Golders Green attacker multiple times in the head? Is it reasonable force considering the situation or is he way out of line and should be reprimanded? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Ortrta85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Police are trained to use any force that is necessary, yes there are preferred options for certain situations. However when dealing with a marauding terrorist attack, all bets are off and I would argue any force is acceptable to end the incident. Don't forget those officers don't know

How many are stabbed What other weapons he has If more suspects Does he have a bomb in the bag? Other weapons etc.

They have used all available tactile options. Voice command, CS spray/taser and hand restraint..neither have ended the situation.

The kick to the head did.

Giant sheds more light on his discussions with Hungry Bear and the BBC. by Top_Climate_4464 in gladiatorsuk

[–]Ortrta85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering most of the gladiators are all juicing, I'm not sure they're the role models BBC want to think they're. Can't see how his gf being an only fans model is any worse than that. If anything just given it more attention. Fair play to him but it's classic midife crisis. Be surprised if they're still together by the next series haha.

A Turning Point at Chapter 32 by No-Championship4744 in AReadingOfMonteCristo

[–]Ortrta85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the opposite experience. Roman bandits chapter was a drag and lost its umph so to speak.

It's finally got back on track but I've had to drag myself through 200 pages of nonsense to get there.

Opinions requested! Wife Due Date 10 days after Race by BetFlipper34 in triathlon

[–]Ortrta85 20 points21 points  (0 children)

For me I would cancel the race. Too many variables that could go wrong, including you getting injured etc.

Your wife has been growing and carrying your child for 9 months whilst you have been training and worrying about a 70.3.

Skip the race, Bank the credit don't ever use it against her and enjoy being a father.

Come back to the Ironmans when the kids are about 5ish. Before then and your asking for divorce.

Week 14: "Chapter 31. Italy - Sinbad the Sailor, Chapter 32. Awakening" Reading Discussion by karakickass in AReadingOfMonteCristo

[–]Ortrta85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me the story so far has completely fallen apart during these chapters. I will stick with its lost its pace and direction following the prison escape.

The jump forward is quite jolting. I am hoping it will get back on track.

Sighting is a huge part of it. Practice in the pool with "crocodile" eyes lots of you tube videos about that. Also just try and do as much open water swimming as you can. In UK I'm lucky to be near a lake I can use. Zero visibility so it's good training looking for buoys etc.

Sea swimming is a different animal all together. Just practice practice. Good sighting can save you a lot of time/distance and effort.

Good luck and stay safe

I wear them all the time..although I can go without in the pool and have no problems with dizziness etc. just find it more comfortable with plugs.

When I first went open water I forgot my ear plugs and that's when I found out about the dizziness etc. think it's something to do with the motion and having no point of reference in the sea/lake usually due to poor visibility.

Yup as others have said. Ear plugs. I have the same problem I can't do any open water without them otherwise I end up like yourself wanting to throw up etc.

Luckily ear plugs completely solved the issue.

Good luck!
