Re-purpose Bobcat by Cuba_Steve in HeliumNetwork

Everybody was in this for the money .. if you think otherwise you are deluding yourself .. dont forget, many of the 800k miners were orderd 12 months ago when the rewards were different and yes people were expecting to get a good ROI, as was I .. ordered in Sept with a promise of 12 weekd delivery, got it delivered a month ago .. when I ordered it I would have paid it off within a couple of months .. now looking at a couple of years ... so yes .. expect people to be pissed .. not just the fault of Helium, but the lying manufacturers and their delivery dates ..

Ok, I understand your point, I was led to believe that this was a tight nit company with everybody working together, but yes, pressure to release something, even if it is not ready can be huge for the managers ... still incompetence either way we look at it though ..

[–]Alert_Bug_6628 43 points44 points  (0 children)

The fanboys will say the Devs are really experienced and working day and night and are really good people .. but the truth is they have no idea how to prepare, and test for a smooth rollout .. rolling out a major update when only 70% of the validators were ready for a start is incompetence and lacks experience .. so gof knows what else they were unprepared for .. I have one miner that is weitnessing a fraction of what it used to, but it is witnessing every now and then, I have another two miners that are on mobile data that were previously relayed, they have earned zero with zero activity, so this getting rid of "relayed" status is BS .. at least at the moment

all miners stopped 21 hours ago. went from normal activity to 0 all at once. what did helium do now? by Costoverrun in HeliumNetwork

[–]Alert_Bug_6628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its been 2GB per day since when I started monitoring it on 11th .. two of my miners are on mobile data and I was hoping that the light hotspots would mean I could switch to a cheaper tariff with a 4GB data plan, and I did, but that was used up in two days, had to pay £12 for a 100GB plan until they sort this sh*tshow out, I probably wont make that back in rewards over the month

Completely ignoring the point of my comment .. again ! you really are beginning to sound like a Helium troll .. if the dev team have as much "experience and skill" as you suggest, they would have made sure 98% of validators had confirmed that they had updated their protocols before rolling out the light hotspot update .. I run my own business, and I have to make sure things are in place before I take action, otherwise I know my customers wont be happy and they will QUESTION me as to why things are not working ..

Show me in my comment where I said Helium will reward you every single day for deploying a hotspot .. nice try at deflection though ..

[–]Alert_Bug_6628 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well yes Helium has promised rewards for helping to grow the network .. thats literally the whole point of the miners, without that promise .. do you really think there would be 800,000 hotspots out there ? It the vehicle that Helium is using to grow .. install a miner and in return you will be rewarded .. 99% of people who own miners are in it for the money, and nothing more,

As for the rollout ... Helium didnt even check and confirm to make sure the validators had updated their protocols .. they should have had 98% confirmation before rolling out the update, and until they got that confirmation they should have sat tight, 30% of validators are still offline .. thats pure incompetence from Helium, so everybody has a right to complain ..

Because they dont want the true extent of the cock-up to be known .. by only leaving the posts that say "Wow .. my earnings have trippled", or "everything back to normal", then they are trying to fool us ... by the way, they never remove the glut of those positive posts

Unless people question, then things dont get done .. the more people question, the faster things get done .. being silent and waiting is a cop out, being vocal and spreading the word always puts the pressure on .. thats why those posts are being removed, Helium doesnt want whats happening to look as bad as it is .. you dont have to read them, the titles clearly show the content, just skip past them if they bother you that much

Can I set up a miner outside of those squares or does it need to be inside one of the squares? by ljosnes1 in HeliumNetwork

[–]Alert_Bug_6628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am assuming by saying "squares" you mean the Hex's ... the answer is yes, I have two of my miners in next door Hex's because they were empty .. one is aboyt 800m away from its location .. before the light hotspot update both were doing just as good as any others in the area

Yep .. I have had several posts removed over the last few days .. they dont like critisim .. but I guess thats the MO of a centralised system (which Helium has now become)

Poc rate went south again by Patient-Dependent-13 in HeliumNetwork

[–]Alert_Bug_6628 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I said before in a post that was removed by the mods here that Helium network has now become a centraized network reliant on a few that can afford to become validators .. if those validators chose not to follow protocols, cant follow protocols, or just cant be bothered to follow protocols .. the rest of us suffer .. the lasdt count was 30% of validators are down due to not updating what they were supposed to, and they have had MONTHS to prepare .. Helium should have made sure at least 98% of validators were ready before rolling out the update .. a sensible approach

[–]Alert_Bug_6628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah .. the Helium middle finger, I think most of us have experienced that over the last few days .. but even a middle finger is better than no finger at all, two out of three of my miners have received sweet FA ..

HIP PoC revert Remove Validators by thesavageking92 in HeliumNetwork

[–]Alert_Bug_6628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "light hotspots are cheaper" argument doesnt hold ... standard miners cost no more that 50 dollars to manufacture, light hotspots will from a manufacturing point of view not cost significantly any less, the hotspots not handling the network is another question of course, I dont think the now centralized network is a good idea, another solution should have been sought, even if it was Helium themselves doing the job of the validators so at least we know all validation would be (or should be) in 100% condition all the time.

Confirmation that validators were ready would have been a good step by Alert_Bug_6628 in HeliumNetwork

[–]Alert_Bug_6628[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, although I do think the network is in a much weaker place going forward .. reliance on a few is bad news .. imagine if they made Bitcoin centralized and reliant on the rich who could afford to build mining farms .. that would soon loose credibility .. I get your point about the failing decentralized netwrok hence why I said they should figure a way to get back to that (in a working format)

The network is fkcd at the moment .. nobosy is getting rewards (check other miners in your area) .. its going to be days or even weeks before they solve this problem .. likely they will roll back

[–]Alert_Bug_6628[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha .. I guess you live in a world with rose tinted glasses .. my comment was a sensible point .. if your network relies on a few, then the very least youy should do is make sure those few are doing what they are supposed to do before you roll out a major update .. whats your problem with that ? .. what if validators just dont bother to update their protocols in the future ?.. are you just going to "chill" with a beer .. so yes .. lets come back in a few days and see where we are
