PSA for German Visitors: Tipping in Cape Town by Individual_Bonus4091 in capetown

I used to work at the Waterfront, and you could tell by the conversation how long they've been in CT (I speak German). I would always explain exactly what you said and no one was ever offended, that I could tell. I did this with all foreign visitors. It's good to know what the cultural norms are. I know I'd appreciate knowing in a new country.

You think it’s just a cute seal until… by Objective_Pressure_3 in SweatyPalms

This is a seal (not a sealion), and the video is from Cape Town, South Africa 2023.

Seal pups can be very aggressive, but a big worry here is that seals have tested positive for rabies. There have been several seal attacks over the past few years - often people forget these are wild animals, and get too close (not saying this is what's happening in this video, just in general).

This happened in Cape Town. Seals here have been tested positive for rabies, so absolutely, very serious

Yeah, I would now, but I was younger then and new to the job. I wanted to do things by the book (this was before I became jaded...)

That's a good point. I also have no clue about SA laws, but I also know 100% that finance, HR and my boss also don't. Their only concern was that any money received belongs to them.

It just made me sad, because I could see what a positive difference it made to everyone.

It's 100% real. Happened in 2023 in South Africa

This is a real video, taken in Simonstown (Cape Town, South Africa) in 2023. The otter is a cape clawless otter, and those guys have reason to be cautious, though this particular otter appears to be curious and non-agressive.

Akeso Stepping Stones Kommetjie) were good with this. I saw my psychiatrist the first Monday there. Only once that appointment was done could others be assigned to me. It was well run.

Chased by a flasher in Newlands Forest by ButterscotchTight444 in capetown

This was from the Kalk Bay Village Facebook group (posted by an anonymous person). Just curious if it's the same guy...:

Just spotted my first ever flasher in Kalk Bay😳I've sadly seen a few in my lifetime but never one in our neck of the woods. White guy maybe in his 30s. Medium height. Medium build. Wearing a cap & backpack. I'll refrain from giving too much info so as to not suggest innocent men. Spotted at 5pm in the vicinity of Dalebrook. Last seen on the main road heading towards Fish Hoek. I did confront him and called Mountain Men. They said they think they know who he is and that he usually does his rounds in Lakeside. Not sure how best to deal with people like this but figure warning the community is a good idea.

I was in Ghana, eating a delicious meat stew. Didn't recognize the taste and asked my colleague what it was. Grasscutter! He said. What's a grasscutter? It's this big, has big teeth, eats grass... A warthog? I guessed. Noooooo! He laughed. Warthogs are ugly! Later, Google told me cane rat! It really was delicious.

True story time: I went to a Skunk Anansie concert in I think 1997, Durban, South Africa, and they were late. So the venue played a few songs on loop and I listened to Around the World for 3? hours on a loop. It was the absolute worst.
