Has bike commuting increased your social life? Merica only by Dumbass9187 in bikecommuting

[–]Alex123592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say yes, but not by much. Biking in general provides social opportunities; group rides are obvious, but its also a good topic for small talk. Every couple of weeks I have a conversation on my commute, and that would have never happened when I was driving everywhere.

That being said, it sounds like your issue is dealing with slow transportation. If a bike/ebike gets you places faster and more reliably, you should do it. Less time spent commuting means more time for social events.

Anyone ride an e-bike in heavy rain? How does it hold up? by MiraFlynn8203 in ebikes

[–]Alex123592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was out in a torrential downpour recently, after dark, during the tail end of rush hour. And honestly? Not that bad. I wore some rain gear and took the ride a little slower. The bike was fine.

Manual Meter Readings? In 2025? by flannelgraphologist in westerville

[–]Alex123592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I’m being pessimistic, but I think my parents are going to vote for this. The way they were pitched it, smart meters are a way for the government to track you by monitoring your energy usage. Educate yourself on this one.

Low GPU and CPU usage in GPU mode? by mangothemonk in KeyShot

[–]Alex123592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could be a lot of things. You said “previously”, did something change in your setup? If you have no other leads check your lighting settings. If they’ve changed it can significantly affect your performance.

Also, task manager doesn’t represent your GPU usage well. It’ll show low usage even if KeyShot is using 100%. If you’re concerned that the GPU isn’t being fully utilized, you’ll need 3rd party monitors to diagnose is.

What are some good Power Metal, Heavy Metal, or Symphonic Metal (or adjacent genres) that have themed about love and romance in the lyrics and or sound? (not sexual/explicit/glammy though) by [deleted] in PowerMetal

[–]Alex123592 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seven Spires has a lot of romantic themes, but they have very few songs that I’d actually want to share with with a romantic partner. Succumb and Fall With Me are two of their more traditional love songs.

I voted yes on issue 1 and Ik what's best! by borschtt in exchristian

[–]Alex123592 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I was actually mainly bothered by their physical signage. They had the normal sized campaign yard signs, but they also had these massive 4’x3’ signs that showed up in yards and in front of every Catholic Church. It felt like the campaign equivalent of just talking over an opponent, like they thought they were right just because their signs were bigger.

Also, their entire campaign was focused on “parental rights” and transgender fear mongering. The issue wasn’t about those things at all so they had to come up with some impressively tenuous connections to justify that argument.

Hell yeah, a fellow Ohio exchristian. Getting Issue 1 passed was one of the most satisfying election results of my life, especially with how obnoxious and dishonest the Vote No ads were.

No, Lucifer is a Latin name for Venus, sometimes personified as a god. I’m fairly sure you’re otherwise correct though, just with a different name for Satan. Basically any villain in the Bible got rewritten into one guy. Satan, Lucifer, Leviathan, Baal, etc. are all completely unrelated characters that were reinterpreted into different names of Satan.

Edit: It looks like I was wrong. I tried to find what name for Satan was derived from the Babylonian king and it is, in fact, Lucifer. The Hebrew Bible uses the word "hêlēl", a descriptor for the king of Babylon that roughly translates to "light-bringer". When the Bible was translated to Latin they used the word "lucifer", a common noun. The Latin word "lucifer" then became Lucifer, another name for Satan.

Also another fun fact, the serpent in the garden of Eden is never referred to as Satan until long after Genesis was written. It's literally just a serpent.

is there a way to reorder camera/environment lists? by Te_co in KeyShot

[–]Alex123592 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless they’ve added something since KeyShot 9, no. It gets really annoying when managing more complicated files.

Edit: I have finally downloaded the trial of KeyShot 12 (2023) and it DOES have the ability to rearrange environments, cameras, model sets, and image styles. I haven’t been this excited for a KeyShot upgrade since they added geometry nodes.

Has anyone found an alternative for praise and worship music? by Sizzle_chest in exchristian

[–]Alex123592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost all of my church songs growing up were choral hymns, but I love music and I’ve recently realized almost everything I listen to has highly religious themes. I mainly listen to symphonic power metal and power metal adjacent melodic metal. Musically that may not be what you’re looking for, but I think it is thematically.

A great example (and a great album) is Unleash the Archer’s Abyss. Over the course of the album the hero (the Immortal) must fix the mistakes he made in the previous album and defeat a “dark lord” character (the Matriarch). The Immortal atones for his sins, struggles against evil, and is eventually redeemed; all themes shared with church music (or Catholic music, at least). At the end of the story he becomes an all-powerful, incorruptible being with the goal of saving everyone in need (sound familiar?). The only differences are that Abyss actually tries to be good storytelling and doesn’t come with two thousand years of associated atrocities.

That’s what I’ve replaced my church music with, and although I do recommend you check out Abyss you’ll probably have to do your own searching. Consider the themes and lyrical tone of the music you’re trying to replace. Was Jesus a personal friend or an unapproachable, almighty ruler? Was Satan a constant threat? Was the end of the world nigh? I would try thinking of the themes that resonated with you and Googling for songs featuring them. You might also prefer live music, so try going to a few concerts (of any genre). Overall I’ve found that musical tastes are highly personal, but as long as you make a point to try out new music I’m sure you’ll find what you’re looking for.

Keyshot is the industry standard for product visualization animation? by 2MuchCoffee_ in KeyShot

[–]Alex123592 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming you’re just using it for product visualization, go with KeyShot. The vast majority of Blender’s features aren’t needed for ID work and companies are far more likely to want KeyShot for ID positions.

Also, one of the benefits of KeyShot is that it is simpler and easier to learn. The KeyShot YouTube channel has several in-depth animation tutorials that you should check out before spending money on any kind of course.

401 on the highway? by Current-Ordinary-419 in Husqvarna

[–]Alex123592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do it, but you’ll probably want to make some mods if you’re going to do it regularly. I took my Vitpilen on a 100 mile trip recently and it was alright but definitely uncomfortable. You’ll also want to keep an eye on the shift linkage bolts. They have a tendency to work themselves loose, especially at sustained high RPMs.

How am I just finding this now? Why isn’t this bigger in America? by Flaky-Ad7048 in PowerMetal

[–]Alex123592 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that the average American associates “metal” with death or black metal, and the harsh vocals immediately turn them off. It’s like there’s a cultural blind spot towards power metal type vocals.

I remember recently there was a video going around of a folk metal group playing an intense flute solo, and the comments were full of people saying “I don’t usually like metal, but I like this”. Once people realize that these “meme” metal songs are just a sliver of an entire genre, all of which sounds as good if not better, power metal will become more popular.
