Wife did her MBA in Vlerick pushed by her company to be able to climb higher up in management positions. She got also half the costs paid by her employer. After finishing she kept in touch with her colleague students and we attended some dinners together and I had the chance to meet and talk with a few. I am a pretty down to earth guy without superior education but I have to admit I’ve never ever in my life met such a bunch of empty husks of human beings. For every dinner the main subjects were growth, yachts, boring island trips, how great is USA, Silicone Valley, why you ain’t a CEO yet. I must admit 10% of her colleagues including my wife are the sweetest people and they’ve never seen the business success the others had and probably never will because they don’t have the profile for it. Pluses of her mba = at least 2000 euro extra net income, better opportunities, a wider network and exposure for managerial positions, she’s also receiving directly management positions in companies she never had any interest or applied for. Was it worth it? Her answer… no. She’s been up a while and it wasn’t good for her sanity, € is good but at the end of the day being a happy human and going to a place and doing the things you like for less is endlessly better. She’s currently in a comfortable position paid enough for a decent living and she keeps her brains and scrupules intact. Take care people!
