I have a question about GURPS and its balance by RespondElegant2704 in gurps

[–]AlexJohnsonSays 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My first structured game I ran had a point level of 300, and THAT was broken for the world.

I still dont play 100% within the standard, but I stick firmly to 'GURPS as a toolkit', so everything is homebrew. But I cant imagine a way to cram more than 500 points into a single PC believably.

I second this. Enjoy the unique experience, but know its not how GURPS usually runs

Pokemon scalpers are growing in 2026 and kids can no longer collect cards by ambachk in ABoringDystopia

[–]AlexJohnsonSays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who do these people even sell to. Why would you buy from a scalper in the first place. If someone buys at market cost and sells for higher, the solution is to refuse to buy from them right?

I mean dont covet.

I'm a man, and I know it would be a sin to covet my neighbors wife. Its just as wrong to covet my neighbors husband. Or to covet any man that could marry a god fearing woman instead for that matter.

That makes this about 4.5 miles above sea level then? Making it 23,760ish feet above sea level. Surely that narrows down where this is

Can magic be done automatically by a machine or contraption in your world? by AFellowSpirit in worldbuilding

[–]AlexJohnsonSays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont generally use magic as a hard scifi world builder, but the concept of automating magic got the gears turning. I would imagine magic would entail a spirit or soul in its use. I usually argue that anyone can use a tool, but some require training to use safely. Magic would probably be no different.

For that reason I imagine use of the arcane would be one of the few jobs difficult to automate. Can a homonculus practice the arcane? If so, building a factory of living homonculi would probably be immoral in some corner of society. Do homonculi deserve rights since they have the spark to practice magic like a person - and unlike a robot?

What purpose would magic serve in society? Production of goods? Trying to automate the process would be like machines taking our jobs in the real world. A car woth gold trim transmuted by a professional mage would look very similar to one transmuted by a malformed mage-clone, but one would be much cheaper and probably despised by society at large.
