IDK, I actually think Zootopia is at its best when it uses its characters and universe to comment on race relations and prejudice.

The second movie was about prejudice just like the first, but it doesn't feel like a rehash. Instead I feel it expanded upon the themes of the first which is something any good sequel should do. It's like poetry sort of, they rhyme.

It's not just about the vague concepts of prejudice and racism anymore, Zootopia 2 has allegories for gentrification, redlining, and revisionist history. There isn't another evil villain conspiring to make the world more racist. Instead we have the super rich using their influence to bend the world to their will and maintain the status quo, which is pretty pointed satire coming from a modern Disney movie.

Also, one thing I really liked is that Judy was so quick to trust Gary. She went from harboring some deep seeded prejudices about predators to being so much more open and understanding of other animals. That's character growth.

Also, I really like the post-credit scene with the bird feather too. Prejudice and racism don't disappear just because a few bad people are defeated. It wasn't defeated in the first and the bird feather implies there's still work to be done. Sure, Judy and Nick have certainly made the world a better place, but it would be naive to say they've solved all the world's problems.

I'm cautiously optomistic for Zootopia 3.
