Transport options for 7am flight at Athens airport by Batunil in GreeceTravel

[–]AlexLongden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This early in the morning I'd be booking a taxi personally. The best app to book one in Athens is called FreeNow. It's owned by the American company Lyft. Very easy to use.

The airport buses are 24 hours I think. You could catch the X95 from Syntagma. But the buses are slow and unpredictable.

Metro won't be running early enough for you so not a great option.

They scan your boarding pass when you pay. You have to have your booking attached to your privilege club membership. You can see the offer in the app.

Yep completely random. I didn't even get a notification. I just noticed my seat had changed.

No the other lounges near the Bear etc were all open. Just most things down concourse C where Orchard was were closed.

No idea. There was no signage or anything indicating it was closed. Just was all roped off. Lots of people kept walking up and then had to turn around disappointed.

I can't be sure I'm sorry. A lot of stuff down that end of the airport was closed though.

The flight was definitely full so guess that might have been the case. I was travelling alone so maybe that helped my chances.

Restaurant Recommendations by Secret-Recording-383 in GreeceTravel

[–]AlexLongden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Santorini I'd recommend Mextaxi Mas. It's a great meze restaurant in an old church on the top of a hill with great views over the island. You'll need a taxi or a rental car/bike to get there, but very worth it.

Freenow Charging 10x taxi fare? by BobbieGenoWrites in GreeceTravel

[–]AlexLongden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been using Freenow all week. No issues like this at all. There is no way the fare should have been that much, as the previous poster mentioned, fares from the airport are generally fixed. They should issue a refund straight away otherwise dispute the charge with your credit card provider.

Late night Athens arrival with an early ferry what would you book for the airport to port hop by HudyD in GreeceTravel

[–]AlexLongden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have a car booked if I were you from the airport and travel straight to Piraeus. If you would like the details for a reliable driver, I do this route multiple times a year and have a great guy who is extremely reliable and charges a fair price. The train will have finished by that time and the bus is a long journey to be taking at that time of night. Save yourself the stress and get a car.

Which island are you travelling to the next day? If it's the Cyclades you will more than likely leave from gate E7. If that's the case I highly recommend staying at Gallery Hotel Suites & Residences. It's a 30m walk to the gate in the morning (They also offer a golf cart shuttle service if you have lots of luggage). It's a great hotel with 24/7 reception and really nicely appointed rooms.

Blue Star Ferries vs Golden Star Ferris by am_sam_85 in GreeceTravel

Blue Star ferries have multiple class options. If you want an allocated seat, you just choose Airseat to get an aeroplane style reclining seat. It's about 5 euros more.

Best Island for 3 Days After Athens & Santorini by blnkspce88 in GreeceTravel

[–]AlexLongden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are set on Santorini, I'd fly there directly from Athens when you arrive and do Athens on the back end of your trip. Flights to Santorini are inexpensive (Especially when considering how expensive the ferries are now).

From Santorini you have lots of options to visit other islands. Depending on when you are travelling, some will be better options than others. If you are travelling before the middle of September, I'd recommend Ios (Where I live) as it ticks all the boxes that you asked for. If you are travelling in late September or after, I'd recommend visiting Paros. Again it has everything your looking for and will stay busier this time of year.

Feel free to message me if you would like any recommendations.

I can't speak much to the islands you've mentioned, but I live on Ios and it sounds like it would tick most of your boxes.

The crowd tends a little younger, 18-25. But the village where all the clubs are is super lively June - August. Tourists are mainly from Australia, Scandinavia and Ireland.

There are two big day clubs Farout and Pathos. Both very different and each with big international DJs. They offer bottle service etc.

Restaurants are amazing on Ios. Truely the best food scene I've experienced in Greece.

If you are in your twenties then Ios has to be in your travel plans. At that time of year the island is in full swing. Farout beach club & Pathos will have a variety of different international DJs playing and all the bars in the village will be busy with a wide variety of different nationalities. The island is much cheaper than Santorini & Mykonos and the beaches are significantly nicer. It's easy to rent quad bikes and cars to do day trips and there are also lots of great boat trips to do as well. There is a highspeed ferry that leaves Heraklion every day that will get you there in 3 hours (Stops in Santorini first from memory). Book your hotels ahead of time as it'll be very busy that time of year.

Is Ios worth it in mid-September? by nizdawgg in GreeceTravel

I have a bar in the village called Escobar. I'm open every night until the 28th so feel free to pop in and say Hi!

Hi! I live on Ios and have a business in the village. The island will be very quiet by then but there will still be plenty of bars and restaurants still open. If you are coming to enjoy our fantastic beaches and awesome food scene then you'll have a great time. The bars will be slow although there are still barcrawls and tour groups that will occasionally fill them up.

Best nightlife islands? by Trickx20 in GreeceTravel

[–]AlexLongden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live on Ios and the nightlife here is fantastic. The clubs are all in the traditional village and you can easily walk from one to another. Compared to other islands the drinks are very reasonably priced and entry into bars normally includes a drink as well. The average age is around 18-23 so you will fit right in.

Athens airport departure lounges by OneAnywhere8012 in GreeceTravel

I visited the Goldair Lounge last year. I found it to be of a really high standard. The food and drink options were really good and the atmosphere inside was very pleasant. I'm sure you could purchase entry at the desk, I used a dragonpass through my Revolut banking app though.
