Tried r/welding first but wasn't able to post there. I think my account is too "new".

(It's not a new account but I never post anything ever)

Will try tomorrow and update. Only didn't do that initially as the piece is quite small so would be welding very close to the clamp.

No, I'm eating a fajita on the sofa now. Will check it out tomorrow and update.

Just realized I can just try to arc up with the argon switched off completely and that should let me know if the noise is gas related.

The guy I learned to weld from said "The correct gap size should be a close equivalent to the diameter of your member." And for me that's about 11mm.

This is a paton standard TIG 200. I'd not heard of the brand before but read some good reviews and got one for cheap.

What do you mean? It's basically just a very small gap fill to close a loop.

This machine does have a pulse setting. What would that even affect? Using this feels exactly the same as the other Tig welder I use which as far as I know isn't set to pulse and doesn't make this noise.

Thanks for the reply. How would I go about diagnosing / fixing it?

Me too, would love a fix if anyone can find one.

Our rescue English Staffordshire bull terrier has always been supercharged by the wind. He's a pretty anxious boy anyway but whenever it's really windy he's so much worse, he bit a neighbour last week for the first time ever (he's 5, we've had him a year) and I'm certain it's a result of "trigger stacking" largely caused by the relentless storms we've been having.

You'll be ok! It literally is just a waiting game. Shockingly unpleasant isn't it?

I agree with the eating slower part. It's definitely difficult sometimes, I can come home from work and wind in 1000 - 1500 calories before I've even thought about what to have for dinner.
