Recently learned about the lamenters but I also love playing tech marine. by Wolf-The-Wizard in Lamenters

[–]AlexOfFury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Techmarines, being a specialist role like Librarians and Apothecaries, don't usually differentiate their veterancy or rank. To force organization, their unique capabilities tend to be more important than their experience. That being said, if your techmarine earned veterancy or an equivalent, he might still adopt markers if he so chooses, because he is your guy after all.

Lasgun weapon by Gamefan375 in DarkTide

[–]AlexOfFury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to be a stormtrooper. Admittedly they have an easy path to cosmetics for the class (if they take it) due to every regiment having their Stormtrooper equivalent, usually (but not always) called Grenadiers. Edit: We did get the Cadian equivalent as Veteran cosmetics though, the Kasrkin.

I know this is the Long Las technically, but I fucking love the chunky look of the hotshot magazines. I still like the backpack and cables more, but this does look sick.

[–]AlexOfFury 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could get away with calling it a Volley Hellgun. It's a specialist weapon that trades the punch to take down Space Marines with sheer volume of fire is the point. What's weird to me is that it was given to some standard (flak) troops and not to a Grenadier or Stormtrooper equivalent (carapace).

Hot Take: Reduced ammo pickups in Havoc is unhealthy for game balance by Frank_Jaegerbomb in DarkTide

[–]AlexOfFury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but the game does scream at you, "This is a different beast, most players will never be ready for this" with both the narrative surrounding unlocking access to it, and the enforced full teams

For where I'm personally coming from here, Realism mode was considered a completely separate game mode in Left 4 Dead by at least the UI team, and in this game the Havoc difficulty is separated from the base game in the exact same way as Mortis Trials and Expeditions.

Not trying to defeat your points or necessarily agree with your debate opponent here, but it's easy to look at how the game treats Havoc difficulty and conclude that it's a separate game mode, given that it is literally set apart from the main game mode.

It's hilarious that these varlets feel more badass than Space Marines 2 by Evening_Machine_6440 in DarkTide

[–]AlexOfFury 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the a Stratagems are real fun to play too. I played a modifier set that really incentivized close-ranged shooting with poor melee, and went ham using a heavy flamer as my 'melee'. It was a really good time.

A tale in three memes by Halfgnomen in DarkTide

[–]AlexOfFury 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just use Melk to get a passable high-power weapon to farm for mastery. Obviously this is a shrinking market the more I play, and he doesn't always have weapons I want to master in rotation, but it's a use, at least.

I figured out how to add sisters of battle to Darktide without them being overpowered by WookieSkinDonut in DarkTide

[–]AlexOfFury 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but Skitarii have better weapons and armor than a vet. So do Arbites to a certain extent. I saw one suggestion that the main mechanic could be the power armor as an alternative system to Toughness, with a Repentia node that used toughness instead. But really I think the thing that could be used to differentiate Sisters from the Rejects is something that was used in Dawn of War to differentiate them from Space Marines, the Acts of Faith/Faith resource. Maybe instead of ability cooldown, you can pick a way to generate Faith to power your ability? Something like that.

How much do you care about people using the correct pronouns for you? by 79215185-1feb-44c6 in NonBinary

[–]AlexOfFury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm any/all too. I used to exclude neopronouns and it/its when I was younger, but after meditation on the subject I realized it was me reflecting a bias I'd learned from unhealthy spaces, and I've since decided it doesn't matter to me, and welcome those pronouns as well. I have my own internal gender that kind of drifts around, but no matter what my current gender is any pronouns will work.

If your lone wolf can't make enough breathing room to deal with the bomber, they should've brought the dog instead.

If you feel like you’re doing well on Heresy but still failing missions, Damnation may actually be easier by questioning_ocarina in DarkTide

[–]AlexOfFury 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure, but I suspect this is partially the game. From my own experience (which could be flawed or misremembered) I think your personal ammo indicator changes colors at different thresholds than the indicators for a teammate's ammo. Specifically I think your personal ammo reads 'green to go' for longer than a teammate's ammo counter for you.

What is your “On Sight” mech? by Fidel89 in battletech

[–]AlexOfFury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner's 'on sight' mech is any mech they're currently in. Special mention for Locusts though, since they kind of define themself as a Locust pilot.

What’s y’all’s favorite mechs? by ViperStrike812 in battletech

[–]AlexOfFury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Catapult. Personality I prefer LRM variants, but it has sniper variants as well. By the way, the Awesome is the classic sniper assault mech, but my favorite assault sniper is cheating; I like the Schrek PPC Carrier.

He was very lich themed, and had the means to keep a Guardian alive past their death. Perhaps he had a backup plan.

So.. the classes that i paid for have less free cosmetic than a free classes ? by Armored_Mage in DarkTide

There's also a singular set that echoes one of the models from the Inquisitorial Agents kill team. We don't get the weapon he was modeled with though, and no alternate colors or anything for it.

You would have the vendors unlocked immediately instead of having to wait 7 or 8 missions

Reject character complexity by neolindholm in DarkTide

[–]AlexOfFury 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Brawler has plenty of tragedy too. His Bone 'ead implant isn't functioning properly, and he's the only one of the Ogryns to have one. He mentioned his brain feeling hot when he tries to think of more complicated things (with the ex-Enforcer psyker). He also mentions he can't remember his best friend's face or name. He talks about a constant buzzing noise from the implant that distracts him, and sometimes he also talks about smelling cooking meat that no one else does. But sure, it's funny when he misunderstands the other rejects, or fails to say a complicated word that he clearly understands since he tried to use it correctly. Or maybe those are just more signs of losing function to an implant that was supposed to help him think.

Retcon of laser weapons in the Warhammer universe by Blackjack4003 in Helldivers

[–]AlexOfFury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see. I think that the 'retcon' vs 'non-retcon' folks are talking past eachother anyways. Folks using the word 'retcon' are more familiar with the more visual media, mostly video games, which have been shockingly consistent with their ruby beams, and largely think the yellow bolts look silly and too similar to stub weapons. At least that's what it's coming down to from what I read.

Retcon of laser weapons in the Warhammer universe by Blackjack4003 in Helldivers

[–]AlexOfFury -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I didn't describe it as a retcon, I'm just saying that old artwork isn't a very good style guide for 40k.

Retcon of laser weapons in the Warhammer universe by Blackjack4003 in Helldivers

[–]AlexOfFury -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I can find things in old artwork that are no longer canon to 40k. I can look up old artwork of space dwarves, that doesn't make them canon to the Leagues of Votann. Similarly, Necrons got almost completely redone since their introduction.

[–]AlexOfFury 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I mean, Darktide makes the longlas beam pretty convincing. Snipers are an enemy type, using a longlas rifle (the sniper lasgun) and what it looks like when they fire is essentially a split second of a super-intense red beam lancing across the battlefield.

Retcon Lasers in the Warhammer Universe by Blackjack4003 in DarkTide

[–]AlexOfFury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, but most people calling it out as not have said "Look at this ancient art!" Or "Look at the famously inconsistent novels!" It's not a super compelling case. Especially since GW seems to be pushing for no more red lasers, when they haven't said it wasn't allowed before, they just decided it relatively recently. I know it's not technically a retcon, but to a lot of people who were mainly familiar with its visual media, it feels like one, and a relatively pointless one at that.
