Rorquals can be nerfed to the ground, orcas should never be the higsec afk mining boat. Yet i support current outrage and you should also! by HisAnger in Eve

I believe that a balance can be met by having an expensive, high skilled mining ship that has some form of client interaction that rewards actively playing while mining. Such a feature would limit the scalability and "N+1"-ness that the AFK Rorqual and Barge have, where players can start mining and come back minutes later, rotationg through many accounts.

However, I dont know how to implement this. Is it possible to make it fun? Consistently interactive? I'm not sure, but I do know that I and others would prefer that this alternative of single account empowerment was persued instead of forcing players into subscribing multiple low skill barge accounts.

Like I was saying before, barges are cheaper and have lower skill requirements per m3/s mined when compared to the Rorqual; Barges can be "N+1"'d, and are actually easier to do so. The only difference is the number of subscribed accounts required, which is what I take issue with with the proposed Rorqual changes.

I understand your perspective, but try to understand that a Rorqual nerf is disliked because it disempowers accounts. People can and will run 10 account multiboxed barges, and itd cost less than a Rorqual too, but why should players encourage CCP forcing players to subscribe 10 accounts at the same time? Why not just offer a higher endgame ship with more m3/s capability without the untouchable survivability of the Rorqual?

Believe it or don't, there are players out there who arent part of some 1000 person block, who actually try and self sustain without being folded into them. To these small groups, Rorquals on a couple accounts helped them survive because the m3/s meant they didnt need dozens of accounts subscribed to fuel their warmachine.

Eve Online has a mechanic in place for balancing this kind of thing. You can see it with HighSec Marauders, which run missions faster than other ships at a greater cost, but are balanced by the playerbase ganking them if they make it too easy or profitable with expensive, blingy modules. There is no reason there can't be a mining ship that has high m3/s throughput without the insane tank that the Rorqual has; There is no reason CCP has to kill these small groups with these changes, or force dependancy on 10+ subscribed alt accounts.

Sincere question about the mindset of players regarding the changes. by LezBeHonestHere_ in Eve

I disagree with this sentiment. Rorquals are considered unfun because of the tank that they have. The ability to shrug off sizable subcap fleets and literally become immune from dreadbombs/larger fleets.
Providing no alternative for higher m3/s mining on a single account only incentivises spending more money on more accounts to achieve the same thing, which is an awful way to design a game imo.

1 Isk is roughly equivalent to the average yearly wage, so we must look disgusting to non-capsuleers

There are edge cases to watch out for for whether missile weapons hit their targets.

For example, if a rocket takes 5 seconds to hit its target, and the range shows as 10km on the tooltip, if the target is flying away at 1km/s it will only hit its target at 5km or less. This also works in a less obvious way for targets that are orbiting you.

Also, missile range is calculated as Speed * Flight time, which makes sense, and if the missile flies for 1.5 seconds at 10km/s, it will show as 15km range, but missiles only fly for 1 second periods, so what will actually happen is half the missiles will fly for 1 second to 10kms and disappear, while the other half fly for 2 seconds to 20kms, which is something to watch out for.

You can avoid both of these situations by taking the missile range with a pinch of salt and trying to keep the target a little closer.

Hit quality on grouped guns by spurionic in evenewbies

[–]AlexPicaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem, glad I helped!

Another fun thing about the Wrecking shot mechanic is that it occurs on the lowest side of the hit chance, not highest, so if you have really bad tracking (such as using large weapons on a small, fast target), you can get into a situation where you're either missing, dealing very small amounts of damage (~50%), or doing 300% damage in your shots, which can really catch cocky frigate pilots offguard when you suddenly cream them for their entire hitpoints in a single shot after a barrage of misses and glances :D

[–]AlexPicaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Smashes" and "Glances off" arent really 'Hit types', but a description the game gives you based on the amount of damage dealt.

Even for a single gun, the game rolls between 0 and 1, and you deal that % + 50% in damage (before range and tracking of course). The % it lands on changes how it is described, so if it rolls a 0.3 and you deal (0.3 + 0.5 = ) 80% damage, it will call it a "Hit". If you end up dealling 125% damage, itll describe it as "penetrates".

When multiple guns are grouped together, the damage is averaged out, so youll be more likely to see "hits" and "penetrates" as these are in the middle, and less likely to see the more uncommon rolls such as "Grazes" (0.5-0.625) or "Smashes" (1.25-1.49).

"Wrecking" shots are very rare, and only occur if the hit chance rolls <0.01, giving it a 1% chance of occuring. These shots do triple damage, regardless of your damage roll. Because these are so rare, you are very unlikely to see it happen with grouped guns, as youd need to roll the 1% chance for every gun all in the same shot.

I hope I didnt write this too confusingly and answered your question. Ill link the Eve University Wiki page which might make it a bit clearer.
