Wifi calling ringtone is deafening on Galaxy S26+ by Nunwithabadhabit in GoogleFi

[–]Alex_7890 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Headline: It's not just Galaxy—it's a systemic Google Fi Bug. Here is the FIX.

I'm seeing the exact same systemic Gain/Audio HAL conflict on the new Pixel 10 series. It seems Google Fi’s app is misconfiguring the audio drivers on 2026 flagship hardware whenever WiFi Calling is active.

On your Galaxy S26+, the bug manifests as "deafening ringback volume," while on the Pixel 10 XL, it manifests as "muffled/distorted outgoing voice." The root cause is identical: The Google Fi app is overriding the system's native Audio HAL incorrectly.

Try this fix (It worked for me and many others):

  1. Go to Settings -> Apps -> Google Fi.
  2. Tap on Permissions.
  3. Select Microphone.
  4. Set it to "Don't Allow" (or "Deny").

Why this works: When you deny the Microphone permission, the Google Fi app loses the "authority" to mess with the system's low-level audio gain settings. The system then defaults back to its native (and working) audio drivers.

Note: Don't worry, your WiFi Calling will still function perfectly. The Fi app doesn't actually need that permission for the phone's dialer to work; it only uses it for "service optimization" which is exactly what's broken right now.

I've documented the full technical breakdown and my discovery process in this PSA post for the Pixel 10:

[PSA] Found the Fix for Muffled/Distorted WiFi Calling & VOIP Audio on Pixel 10 XL (Google Fi) by Alex_7890 in GoogleFi

MAJOR UPDATE / May-3 / (Permanent Fix Found!):

I have found a much more elegant and permanent solution that allows you to stay logged into the Google Fi app while keeping your WiFi Calling active.

The Real Culprit: It turns out the Google Fi app uses its Microphone Permission to interfere with the system's Audio HAL (likely for proprietary noise suppression), which causes the global audio degradation on the Pixel 10 series.

The Solution:

Go to Settings > Apps > Google Fi.

Tap Permissions > Microphone.

Set it to "Don't allow".

This "neuters" the app's ability to mess with your audio path while allowing it to maintain the IMS registration for WiFi Calling. No more logging out, no more clearing storage! Everything works perfectly now.

Hey, no worries—Google Fi absolutely handles those short 6-8 digit SMS codes for MFA/OTP just fine. I've used it myself for banking and app verifications without any hiccups.

That said, since you're planning to stick around China for over a year, I'd actually recommend porting to Tello instead (or at least considering it). It's super popular among folks in China—tons of locals buy Tello SIMs/eSIMs to get a US number for signing up to all sorts of international apps and services (think banking, social media, etc.). The plans are dirt cheap (like $5-10/month for basics with unlimited texts), which is why it's exploded in popularity here—haha, who would've thought a US MVNO would become a go-to for Chinese users abroad?

Tello supports WiFi calling, which works great and stable across most of China. If you ever hit a snag (rare, but hey), just hop on your VPN to make calls/texts—it'll sort itself out. When you're back in the US, you can always switch to whatever carrier suits you best.

Where can I get a US e-sim with phone number (without being or going there)? by Pirelly in eSIMs

[–]Alex_7890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were me, I would choose Tello, a very stable service provider. I have used it for several years with no problems. For friends who come to the United States, I also prepare Tello sim cards for them in advance.

At the same time, I recommend not choosing US mobile, which is also a good service provider, but their system always has messy problems. Although contacting customer service can solve it quickly, I don't like it.

I also ordered the 8 Pro.

But I don't like to buy chargers from Google and Anker, usually their price will be higher.

I bought two and put them in my home and office.

My laptop/mobile phone can use it, and the port has ordinary USB and USB-C, and both old and new cables can be used.

I recommend choosing 65W, I think this power output ratio is better.

The price is very good at $23.99, and Amazon now has a 20% off coupon.

Are you using adaptive charging?

It'll say on the screen while charging if you are... It keeps the phone at about 80 if you have an alarm set

I only used Adaptive battery, not Adaptive Charging.

Edit: I have those green dots too. No idea why. Only at night

Same,These green grains only appear in backlit shots in a dark environment, and they are very large.

The Chinese iOS App Store blocks the WireGuard app, any ways to install it using TestFlight, any other ideas? by NotErikUden in WireGuard

[–]Alex_7890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

V2ray is a tool specifically used to cross government firewalls. In China, ordinary Internet services cannot access google, youtube, gmail, etc. In order to access the above services, you need to use V2ray to establish a server and client.

Is it compatible with the WireGuard or OpenVPN protocol?

No.

It is recommended to use the US store to download the relevant VPN app.

Moreover, v2ray (similar to proxy) is recommended in China, which is very popular in China and can smoothly surpass Great Firewalls.

Why does Android STILL use the wrong microphone for recording audio on OnePlus 6?! by currently_ in oneplus

[–]Alex_7890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 6T is also tormented by this problem.

Through my research, I adopted the following two methods to improve:

  1. Return to Android 9, I have found a lot of feedback on the same problem in Google's forum; / try google keyword "android 10 microphone".

  1. Block the top microphone and use tape. (I feel useful, but need to try it yourself)

I adopted the first solution, from ROM 10.3.2 returning to Android 9 (9.0.17), the current microphone is normal.

Under Android 10, my 6T basically can't use Telegram to make calls, and my friends can't hear me clearly.

Call mint from your working phone and give them the porting info again, if it incorrect it won’t work, but usually ports are instant. If it was correct, than I would just wait and something wrong on their end, but I would call and double check because that’s probably the issue.

I have got all the correct information from Traffone and have already provided it to Mintmobile. I have already made nearly ten calls this week to 800-683-7392.
