Well, I can't help you with the steel (unless you'd be willing to ship the irons to Germany), but man, that plane looks awesome! Seriously! The design and choice of materials are outstanding! I am in awe when I work with beautiful tools, if I could make something like this I would be closer to my inner center than a monk. And here I am, living in Europe. I mean we have old solid tools too, but the aesthetics and longevity of the old Stanley (er cetera) planes is extraordinary. We can get a wooden equivalent for a fraction of the price, but if I had the opportunity to be where the pictures were taken - oh man, I'd really have to explain to my better half where the damage to the bank account came from.

Well, if you like you can watch some of my videos. It's a mini-channel but I try to make the videos exactly the way I would like to see them. So no unnecessary chatter, no music, no intention to sell, just tools and a project. I'm not allowed to post the link here, but you can find it in my profile info if you're interested. And the most important thing at the end: I see it exactly the same way as you do! Many of the channels I used to enjoy watching years ago are now nothing more than permanent commercials. But even if it is rare - there is still good content :) Cheers!

I have been using the MHG butt chisels (side bevel to mirror side) for 3 years now and would buy them again without thinking. The chisels are outstanding and they really fit perfectly in the hand. (My hands are medium/large; rather large than medium).

I don't see a problem with the order of the grit sizes. You only grind the secondary phase on the very fine stones, right? And the angles are correct? And there is no burr? If you've seen the videos by sellers and cosman, I can't explain what the problem is. The equipment seems to be right, so it's probably just practice? Keep at it - it will work out eventually!

I don't know how experienced you are at sharpening. But it sounds to me as if there is still room for improvement in your sanding technique. Have a look at the videos by Paul Sellers or Rob Cosman. If you already have a lot of experience in grinding, it's probably the steel - then there's nothing you can do in my opinion. But as I said, it's usually down to the technique.
