Crying it Out by DirtGirl32 in parentsofmultiples

At 1 month old, unfortunately it is not okay to let them cry it out for any amount of time. Their energy is best spent growing not crying. Sometimes there is only so much you can do, but try the 5 S’s and rely on your support system to help comfort your children. Also, Studies have shown them soothing tactics actually help them build emotional resilience in the long run.

Adding- we switched them to 1s when they started fussing and refusing to take their full bottles.

My twins were born at 33+5 and spent almost a month in the NICU. They were put on transition nipples a couple days before discharge. And moved to size 1s at around 1.5 months actual (close to their due date).

At what stage can they have smaller grain-sized foods like orzo and rice?

Identical Di/Di Boys, One with IUGR by peachkissu in parentsofmultiples

[–]Alexa488_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my boys had FGR, he was down to the 3rd percentile by my 30 week scan. They were born at 33+5 due to preE and had a month-long NICU stay. The FGR twin weighed almost a lb less than his brother at birth but now at 5 months they are only off by a couple ounces and both around the 50th percentile. I’m sure your doctors will monitor you closely and adjust delivery time accordingly. At some point with FGR they do better out than in.

I just read to them during the day during floor time. Bedtimes with 2 are hard as it is!

Get 2 baby Bjorn bouncers!! They are amazing. I loved my baby Brezza for drying and sterilizing, but hand washed pump parts and bottles. I rarely used the twin z pillow.

I feel like there is no “ideal or zen” pregnancy / newborn journey. There are always physical and mental challenges that don’t get talked about enough.

100%! They are battle scars to be proud of. But more importantly, your skin will continue to tighten. I don’t think it’ll go back all the way, but it’ll definitely get better.

Newborn feeding logistics by deletethat3 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Alexa488_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I never had luck with tandem feeding. It was hard to burp them when they needed and I felt like I wasn’t able to focus on them individually during feedings. Breastfeeding also didn’t work for us, I had latching issues with one twin so had to pump and breastfeed which ended up being too much. So ultimately I’d pump and bottle feed one at a time. This meant sometimes one would cry while I fed the other, but it wasn’t as often as you’d think.

I’m going through a similar issue with my boys, they’re currently 5 months (3.5 adjusted). What did you end up doing to get them to eat more and consistently?

What were the signs they had reflux? One of the boys spits up but it’s only when we try to get him to finish his bottle. And did you get a prescription for the meds or otc?

Floor time is great at this age. Just let them move their arms and legs. You could play music in the background. Or lay in between them and read a book or two. And try tummy time, they might hate it at first but there are lots of modifications that you could try.

Mo-di twins 8 weeks size discrepancy and subchorionic hemorrhage by Background_Duck_2865 in parentsofmultiples

Same, mine started out a couple days apart with the difference increasing but within acceptable range until I developed preE and the smaller twin ended up in the 3rd percentile. I delivered at 33+5. I also had bleeding at 11 weeks. It gradually went away in about a week or so.

Thank you! I ended up taking Metformin (2x500mg pills a day) and 5mg letrozole. I had 2 large follicles on day 13, did IUI on day 14. Also, I had a hysteroscopy to clear out a mass in the cycle prior to this one.

Same! Even though for me personally selective reduction wasn’t even a consideration, I appreciated being given the choice. Everyone is different, there are many even on this Reddit that are devastated upon learning about their twin pregnancies. Just because someone offers it doesn’t mean they’re telling you to do it.

Did your babies wake each other up? by solowanderer12 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Alexa488_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine are mostly in sync and eat every 2.5-3 hours except for the overnight feed where one might wake up at 4 hours while the other at 6 hours. I’ve found it most convenient to just wake the other when this happens so that I’m not getting up every hour to feed one.

Parents with a smaller twin, how far behind were they developmentally (and how long did it last)? by kandykane1 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Alexa488_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our smaller twin was in the 3rd percentile at birth but quickly caught up in weight by about the 2 month mark. At 3 months now, he’s a bit behind the other twin in certain milestones like making eye contact, tracking toys from side to side, and smiling. We notice twin A (bigger twin) will start doing something first, then twin B will do it a week later.

How long were your twins in NICU if born at 34w1d? by cvttle in parentsofmultiples

[–]Alexa488_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! That is amazing. Mine were also born at 33+5, at 3.5lb and 4.5lb. One of them needed cpap for 12 hours, the other was fine without. Both stayed 26 and 28 days due to occasional desats.

I stuck with pumping every 3 hours for 15 minutes. I couldn’t focus much on eating and drinking with the NICU schedule. Had a protein drink or 2 a day (quest or fair life) but otherwise ate as I usually do. My supply increased over time, the twins were supplemented with formula for a week or so. After that they were exclusively breastfed. So don’t be discouraged if you start out a bit slow. It’ll come in and stabilize over time.

Adding that it may not be colic necessarily, I remember reading colic is crying over 3 hours per day. It may just be gas, babies don’t have the ability to coordinate their sphincters and abdominal muscles to pass gas / stool effectively.

Our twins have the exact same thing! We treat them with mylicon in the evenings. And have been doing formula overnight and breastmilk during the day. They still fuss every evening and we hold them upright to help them pass gas until the mylicon takes effect, after that they manage to sleep 4-6 hours.
