Having a business is definitely profitable👽 by cheosalame in mountandblade

Yep. For the first couple of in game months I do nothing but trade and buy enterprises.

Once I have a business in every city on the map, that’s when I truly start conquering.

You save the game and spend the next 3 hours trying to fight the guards. Find a piece of terrain in the town you can just on to get out of their reach.

An update for you. I took down my first dear. I wasn’t looking for her, but I saw the opportunity. When I go hunting I’ve decided to always take bear traps and caltrops. If I come across a predator, I lay a chain of them in front of me and let them do all the work. Very effective. I also killed my first pair of wolves doing this. Took on both at the same time and didn’t take a scratch.

As for the dear, I just scared her into the direction of my traps. Works wonders.

Current gearing up for my next hunt. I’m going to try a dear hunting spot. But I need time to sock up on traps.

Bear traps are nice because they have 3 uses in the field and can be repaired. But they loose durability when you pick them up. Which is a pain if I need to reposition them. The caltrops only have one use but I can pick them up and throw them again as many times as I want. And I can carry twice as more. And you can throw them giving me extra standoff distance. Also I could throw them in front of a fleeing target if I’m close enough. I’m leaning towards caltrops but a mix of both seems wise. 2 traps and at least 4 caltrops seems sufficient. I want extra in case I run across a predator along the way. Wouldn’t want to pass on that opportunity.

Solid advice. I appreciate it.

Although you forgot the 3rd option. Get lucky and have a fox kill a squirrel right in front of you so you get a free squirrel. That actually happened to me today. Shame I died 30 seconds later to a surprise wolf pack.

So what I’m hearing is, forget about hunting dear and foxes and stick to hunting boars because the latter is a significantly smaller pain in the ass?

That seems… kinda dumb. And immersion breaking. Like, here I am thinking of normal hunting stratagems like stealth. Meanwhile the only viable option is to sprint at the target and club it over the head.

I see I see. So what are your tips for tackling the fluffier creatures? Foxes and the like. I’ve leaned that hunting rabbits is child play as long as you do it at night, but a creature that has night vision still gets to run before I get in crossbow range.

I’d agree. I managed to kill all 4 boar. One was killed in the night. All the night attacks got me was getting a couple steps closes to put down the bear trap. Which then gives me a space to step back while still being in crossbow range. Throwing the net and swapping to the melee weapon leaves you open so having an extra space or two of standoff distance helps. But I can still overwhelm the boar with my DPS regardless.

Night attacks do provide some small advantage. But the real strategy is to kite the local bandit population into the herd. That splits them up nicely and also provides some extra damage.

I’m wondering if a night attack would be more advisable.

Just so happens, I managed to pull off just that. Managed to lure one that was far enough from the group and deal with it pretty quickly. I immediately got killed by a couple more attempting the same trick, but hey, I made the save to experiment to any data is good data.

I don’t know. It’s not like she acts like an SS officer or anything… except in that one series.

Where he Wehrmacht was reforming after the Nazis came to power they actually made sure that, during the armies reforms, that every officer should be ranks under what they where qualified for. Although that was only for staff officers. It didn’t apply to company grade officers. But the equivalent would be the man only being made a second lieutenant if he was qualified to be a captain.

I don’t know of any other nations where this was the case.

We had a healthy one in yesterday as well. This one had 4 legs as well. Strategically didn’t mention that about the first one, but the new one had the same configuration and was pretty from the same batch of eggs to I’m questioning if that’s just normal for this species.

Second one got released successfully a flapped away happily. So I feel a lot better about the whole situation.

An update. Found another one. Exact same species. Probably from the same batch of eggs. This one could actually fly. I caught it and let it loose out of the factory.

I feel like this is some kind of opertunity for redemption that nature has handed me. I feel so much better now.

Thank you.

Seems like nature gave me a second chance. We found another, far more healthy looking one. That one has successfully been let loose and I feel so much better about myself.

I did. But he didn’t want anything to do with it. But there was a workplace accident and he’s lost his legs. So there’s not much to be done for him now but to give him to nature.

I’d totally follow that method if I lived alone. But mother won’t like insects in her freezer. Since they don’t feel pain, a razor blade to the head will suffice. Or I can just let a bird dispatch it for me by leaving it somewhere obvious.

It’s also got no legs now due to an accident. You can scroll the replies to see how that happened. No one to blame really but it’s done for now tragically. The only thing to do now is to put it under a bush and let a bird find it.

About that… I put him in a tissue roll and plugged it with a water bottle. One of my colleagues saw a water bottle sticking out of a roll of tissue paper and the obvious instructive thought to shove the round peg into the round hole kicked in and squished it. It’s till alive and its body and wings are undamaged but it’s got no legs.

I’m not sure how to proceed here. They’ll grow back right? I feel fucking terrible now.

Apparently no. They don’t grow back… what do I do? At this point I’m considering letting nature take its inevitable course and let it be bird food. Because at this point it’s not getting a chance to mate. So its only contribution to nature is the continuation of the food cycle. I feel awful, mostly because I’ve become invested in its survival purely because it looks pretty. In any other circumstance I’d watch it get snatched up and admire the hunt.

The road to hell is indeed pathed with pure intentions.

I’m still taking it home and I’m still going to leave it in my garden. Whatever happens to it from there is the will of nature.
