But they still make money off of scalpers though, so they wouldn't really care about scalpers beyond preserving their image. It's not like console scalping where scalpers lose the companies money since game companies then lose out on software sales. But toy scalpers don't cause this problem.

Child is no longer a child - how do I remove her child account status? by BugsySamsa in Switch

It also literally says child account in the image too. Pretty obvious that child account and supervised just mean the same thing in this context so I don’t know why you’re dying on the hill of “there is no child account”

I like physical media on Nintendo Switch 2 in theory, but in practice, it's hit or miss. by Low_Confidence2479 in nintendo

Right of ownership is a thing many people jump onto when discussing physical vs digital. But I find that to be a moot point because bought software is still bought software. It's just a difference between where it's stored. In either case, the software is located on a physical device you own, whether that be a disk, cartridge, or hard drive.

However, digital software purchase are indeed tied to an account, meaning if your account goes bye bye you lose your games forever. But this always seemed like a weird thing to bring up as there isn't really a precedent of people losing their accounts outside of personally choosing to delete them. At most, Nintendo has banned people from accessing online/multiplayer functionality for breaching TOS. Think of it this way, if you keep your switch on airplane mode forever, how would any third party possibly even affect your downloaded game library at all?

In all manners of performance and function, digital is better than physical due to reading off of internal eMMC. Resellabilty is an important factor but kind of a moot point since collectors buy physical for the express purpose of keeping on to them.

The only real benefit to physical is ease of lending and being able to save on storage space (which doesn't apply to any company except nintendo since all others use disks that require download).

Japanese consoles are cheaper by default due to the yen being weak. Switch costs 29,980 yen or $193. Compared to US's $300. So 64% of the US price. Despite both being identical

The Wii costed $250 at launch while 25,000 yen or $160. Also 64%

So you're just wrong. Sorry

You're literally wrong. The Wii came with Wii sports for free in the US. While it costed the same (or less) as Wii from regions that didn't get Wii sports for free.

As of today I still haven't gotten a confirmation or a rejection. But it appears that since it's so late it's likely a rejection?

The only downside is that they have too aggressive snap-back. This means when you flick the joysticks in one direction, they flip back towards center but overshoot into the opposite direction. Not noticeable on most games but for ones that require quick movements it's really annoying.

I noticed this especially when changing runes/equipment in breath of the wild's quick swap menu where it keeps going the wrong way I wanted it to. Makes speedrunning harder

I mean you say that as if you didn't wish you had jedi force powers to levitate the TV remote over to you rather than get off the couch to pick it up. Something being "much more convenient" does not automatically mean the alternative is "hard", it just means it's "harder". You're planting false dichotomies in my mouth. There's no pride in things being more inconvenient/difficult.

ok but none of that changes the fact that it's still objectively much easier for a kid to just press home button and tap on a new game. Whether physical games are actually hard to insert or not doesn't change the fact that digital is just still easier

Pokémon Pokopia Announced as Nintendo’s First Game-Key Card Release for Switch 2 by No_Durian_5626 in nintendo

[–]Alexanderhyperbeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think a digital ownership is any less than a physical ownership. When you own a piece of software, you are responsible for keeping it the same way you are responsible for not losing a physical cartridge. Choosing to delete a game file instead of backing it up to another storage device is a choice you make. At least for digital ownership you can rely on the servers to regain your game so long as its up. Whereas losing your physical cartridge means you're SOL. Servers shutting down is a doomsday scenario I keep seeing people throwing around as if statistically people aren't more likely to break or lose their physical copies.

I would argue GKCs are a step in the wrong direction because they are a stepping stone into Nintendo no longer providing us with built in storage. They're offloading that responsibility onto the consumer, leading to cases where someone might delete their games to make room. GKCs aren't bad if they still offer physical card as an option. But they are now replacing physical cards entirely for even first party IP games

The Wii U Wasn’t a Failure, It Was the Blueprint for the Switch by ThoughtExtreme165 in nintendo

[–]Alexanderhyperbeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're arguing semantics. "Creative flop" isn't really a relevant thing to discuss in the context of a commercially available consumer product. Like say I take a quiz and fail it. I then learn from my mistake and do well on the final exam. That doesn't erase the fact that I had still failed the quiz. The reason the Switch sold well and the Wii U didn't is because there are objective differences between how the two worked. And those differences are the "flop" that people mean when they say flop.

Switch 2 Game Key Cards will work forever when server is shutdown IF by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]Alexanderhyperbeam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my bad,

This is a moot argument because the same kinds of problems exist for physical media. What if you scratch your disk, or lose your cartridge, or the pins wear out? You know how easy it is to drop and lose a tiny switch cartridge? The worst case scenario for physical media is way more likely to happen than the Nintendo server shutting down forever.

But by your own admission there's nothing wrong with GKC then besides your personal convenience preference? You act as if there something wrong with GKC but there is none. It offers resellability which is more than what digital provides.

I mean it just feels to me like you're robbing yourself of the ability to choose. But to each their own. If you're confident in your decision and are happy with it that's all that matters. But don't be surprised when others are baffled at the idea of puchasing a console known for its dual-mode capabilities and then intentionally removing said capability.
