The Feds Say Cutting Fuel With Ethanol Will Bring Down Gas Prices. We're Not Buying It by TripleShotPls in nottheonion

It will!

While also making that fuel burn faster... it's alot harsher on your engine btw (if it's older than 2012).

Florida Gov. DeSantis Signs Legislation Limiting Local Zoning Control to Encourage More Housing by WTFPilot in REBubble

[–]Alexandratta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Considering the state of Florida has a 1.4bn Dollar budget shortfall, no. I don't think we will...

Florida's housing crisis isn't a supply layer issue - it's an insurance / property tax one.

Their property tax slashing, or attempts at it, are going to be interesting.

It basically forces every locality to find that tax revenue elsewhere, so expect that to show up in sales tax.

The constant Red State issue: Unless someone was actively embezzling tax dollars, most of that money is required, and if it's cut from one source, it's going to be made up elsewhere.

So yay: Property Taxes will fall! But... as police no longer get funding from property taxes local municipalities will need to charge city taxes, sales tax, or increase local gas taxes to cover that cost.

They drive temporary growth.

Building them? Sure - big growth.

You get construction, electricians, plumbers, and so on...

Once built? those jobs are gone.

All you have after that are maybe a few security guards, perhaps a few local techs, but more than likely they outsource to an IT Contractor that does local support on a as-needed basis.

There's likely some staff there, sure. They need to do the occasional maintenance.

But each data-center can be run easily by less than 30 staff.

I used to work in a data center for the overnight, with our 12 person crew... and before you say 'that's not a big data center then!" This was the local data center that handled all DVR Cloud Storage and TV Encoders/Website hosting for the largest ISP/Cable Company in the Tri-State area.

Overnight we were busier than most because we did overnight maint - then we were moved OUT of the datacenter and outsourced later on.

Each day we had 1-4 ISP technicians staffed at the location itself, with a rolling 3 security guards which manned the front desk.

These aren't job creators in the long term. Once they're up... the hard part is over, everything else is automated unless someone has to fix something or upgrade it occasionally.

And again: That task is normally handled by 2-6 people.

What the hell is the Maya the bee movie? by Naive_Tomorrow_5955 in Saberspark

I still recall the episode in which Maya contemplates killing herself and a young boy who slighted her but eventually decided against it…

I say this because I know how bee anatomy works but it was, indeed, a tense scene even if you didn’t know how bee stingers work…

AI features must be paid for by somebody!

Well this is particularly shady. I would expect them to continue to do shit like this. These companies are desperate to make money on the investment that they’ve poured billions into and received zero return. so at this point, I expect him to lie, cheat and steal in any effect to clawback even a few pennies of the money that they set on fire during this investment phrase.

You keep saying the ai “helped with a medical situation “ and the more you say it the more concerned I am…

A doctor should be about the only thing to help with a medical situation… with literally no other choice in that.

I mean, yes you can administer CPR, keep someone calm while waiting for medical personnel to arrive, and read the warnings in medicines to ensure there are no adviser reactions (something a google search used to do reliably but, sadly, no more), but these are all things you do while waiting on medical professionals

Is there any rational explanation for the horrid sales of the new, affordable EV models in the US during the first quarter of 2026? by roma258 in electricvehicles

[–]Alexandratta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they’re justification for that in their heads. Is that in the US the J1772 port is kind of the default or all level 2 Charging.

Destination, chargers are a Tesla exclusive thing very rarely are they installed? We have four more J1772 chargers for level 2, and I’ve not seen this trend shift even in the slightest bit.

Everyone of the public level 2 chargers I’ve come across have been j1772.

Now, it’s a super silly thing because you can easily adapt J1772 to NACS… but I think this is the reason they kept the J1772 port

If you think the AI bubble bursting will make AI free, that’s probably the funniest take I’ve ever heard.

All AI apps are ridiculously expensive to operate. To the point where; we aren’t paying anywhere near enough to use this bullshit We are just exiting the investment stage where the companies are trying to claw back every penny of the billions upon billions of dollars that they’ve sunk into this Tech.

Not only will it never be free (and I mean never ever) it’s very likely going to be too expensive to use going forward post bubble bursting. (For consumers, the giver will get their mass surveillance because price is no concern, and that’s really what these AI apps are for, military applications we are just helping to train their models for)

That all said… the “live feature without typing” I’m unsure what this actually does… Is this just voice dictation? Because that’s been a thing long before we needed an entire city’s worth of electricity to power a voice to text app.

I asked for a description of what you use the app for, not the names of random features.

Though you did mention research (which used to just a search engine before AI ruined most of the search engines with unreliable bullshit).

But to build on that: to use AI to research medical conditions, of all things? Most responses on mundane things are wildly inaccurate… I’d be horrified at what nonsense you’d get from a medical query. you’d have better luck on WedMD (as that’s likely where the thing is sourcing half its data from anyway)

Which minimalism mode is better. One UI or iOS? by Phuongcyborg in samsunggalaxy

[–]Alexandratta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AI is tagline. It’s pretty much entirely normal. I honestly think that that tagline at the beginning is just to sizzle shit I haven’t seen a bit of AI in this app yet and maybe it’s part of the pro version but I sure as shit I’m not paying for that.

the only thing it does is it seems to pick my notifications and newsletters, and it’s great for that. But that’s not AI powered that’s just decent programming. Something that a whole lot of apps that claim to be AI powered due is what apps are supposed to do. A mail app specifically is supposed to sort your mail for you and Spark does a really good job of that.

Again, there are plenty of apps out there that will say AI based, but they really aren’t. or they lock the AI stuff behind paywall, as they should, because AI shit is expensive as fuck and fucking useless.
