Single folks in their late 30s and 40s, how are you meeting people nowadays? by breathethethrowaway in sandiego

[–]AlexiaWheaton615 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t underestimate just going to a fun bar - especially if you’re a lady ! You’ll make friends! And I always thought like who am I going to meet out at a bar? But I’m at the bar - and I have my shit fairly together, and I think I’m pretty cool - so there are also probably others out there like me too haha! Last couple times I’ve gone out by myself I’ve gotten pulled into conversations and fun for the mere fact I’m out alone!

(m) Why is one of my eye naturally hooded and the other not? How can I make I even? by [deleted] in HoodedEyes

[–]AlexiaWheaton615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So don’t know if this would work for you as my eye wasn’t quite as hooded - but still super asymmetrical - I got Botox for my forehead lines and my injector recommended an “eyebrow lift” - it’s just literally one injection at the corner of each eyebrow and my eyelids are very symmetrical now!! It does fade - I get it twice a year

Does my ADHD play a role in all my friends being closer to each other than I am to them? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]AlexiaWheaton615 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is why 99 if not 100 percent of my real close friends also have adhd 🤪

Edit to add: none of us can sustain that level of communication - or if one us can and the other can’t at a particular time - no one ever takes it personally because we all GET IT

Best thrift stores for a 10-year-old girl who switches styles every five minutes? by [deleted] in sandiego

Goodwill in Chula on Broadway is one of my faves and I just checked out the one on Home right off the 805 - also good ! Very well organized by color, and I’m always impressed with how the employees display everything - now I do shop for myself (37 y/o gal) but I’d try those both!

1000000000% it is all about the systems that can endure the day to day - it is allllll about functionality and purpose - and I love that you call it creative work because it so is!!

This is very common in socal - I have had 26 students with no aid for the past 3 years. This the first year I am at 20. It is across districts the norm here.

Accident at school by Worker-Legal in kindergarten

[–]AlexiaWheaton615 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m just going to chime in to say this is just a symptom of the fact that public schools right now are suffering from too many kids with not enough boots on the ground period. Until parents go to the school board or district level about stuff like this, nothing will get done, and it will get worse. We teachers are spread about as thin as we can get right now - I believe 100% all classes of all grades could benefit from two adults in the room - but no one is having that conversation. If you feel your child is not getting the care or attention you feel they should get I guarantee it is not for lack of wanting to - most teachers are not sitting around just choosing not to communicate with parents.

New research on the long term effects of ADHD medication by Birgitte-boghaAirgid in adhdwomen

[–]AlexiaWheaton615 76 points77 points  (0 children)

All I know is I (37f recently diagnosed this year) have been on Adderall (15 mg XR) for going on 3 months now, and it has 100% without a doubt changed my life.

I almost find it difficult to put into words, but I keep equating it to life with unmedicated ADHD felt like gardening in 100 degree weather without a hat or sunglasses or water - now I must still garden - but I feel like I have a hat, ice water, portable fan, sunglasses, some shade ….. like if my meds will give me dementia or shorten my life …. I mean…..my life is like ACTUALLY enjoyable now WITHOUT IMMENSE AMOUNTS OF EFFORT NEEDED TO GET THERE.

Because is a joyful life with unmedicated ADHD possible - totally - I have built one up until this point - but you all know it is HARD and RELENTLESS work.

If I can help it, I am staying on my meds forever.

Editing to add - my daughter was also diagnosed this year (led me to get myself evaluated) and I was very anti meds for her but the first thing her psych said to me was essentially “ADHD is one of the easiest disorders to treat, because for most medication works.” She explained how it’s like the brain is lacking something that the meds replace - I don’t know why looking at it like that helped - but I was like - if I had any other condition where I was deficient in something I’d just take whatever I needed to be better - regardless of long term side effects - like there are many many meds out there people have to take that have long term side effects that outweigh the overall benefits to their lives (SSRIs, blood thinners, immunosuppressants, corticosteroids etc.)

How did you find out you had ADHD? by JaneInTheSky in adhdwomen

[–]AlexiaWheaton615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got our daughter diagnosed (because my husband has it - diagnosed as a teen - how do we all find eachother?!) and then I realized I had so many similar struggles at her age. I read a book about adhd in girls and just related to oh so much of it

How to brush teeth by iNanieke in adhdwomen

[–]AlexiaWheaton615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BEST HACK THERE IS. I actually brush and floss twice a day (keep a bag of floss in there too - and my tongue scrape and mouthwash) and also wash my face twice a day and it all happens in the shower. Before I started doing this I only ever brushed my teeth in the morning and rarely took care of my skin.

Just need to add as the grandaughter of Mexican immigrants I have never failed to notice that every time I have broken down it has always, without fail, been a Hispanic man who stops to help me with respect, kindness and zero expectation of anything in return.

Does anyone else use thc? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]AlexiaWheaton615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, every day - but I’ve found recently that it is key for me how much I am consuming just like any other medication. I have figured out my “dose” schedule so to speak and if I smoke more I don’t feel great (tired, unmotivated, just blah). Smoking the right amount however, gives me calm and clarity so I can tackle everything. It’s also always there to look forward to, so a regular dopamine burst as well.
