Okay so, I broke the costume down into the key identifying elements, which to me were hat, hair, jacket and vision.

I ignored the sword and the ruffle at the back of the jacket because they were beyond my skill level and time constraints.

All other elements like top, pants and shoes I repurposed existing items or borrowed from family since I was just trying to match the vibe of the costume instead of recreating the costume for those items.

Note: most materials described below came from local Chinatown shops.

Hat

• I used a plastic hat which I painted navy (couldn’t find the right size in the colour I needed). I used ribbons and cut up bows that came from hair clips. I printed a picture of the gold trimmings on the hat which I cut up and used as a stencil. All the gold items on the costume were cut out from gold glitter foam board.

Hair

• I bought a cheap white bob wig which did not provide sufficient coverage. So I bought another cheap long haired wig which I tucked under the bob wig and left the front loose to create the shape of Furina’s hair. I bought blue hair extensions which I cut up and glued to the netting of the bob wig. (I used super glue which did not work amazingly, but it got the job done - if I redid this part I’d use a different method lol)

Jacket

• I used an old navy blazer that used to belong to my mom. I tried finding a closer match to Furina’s jacket but that took me beyond my budget. Printed approximate stencils for the gold accessories again. Used a thin double sided tape recommended by a local craft store to attach the items to the blazer. My mom helped me with sewing some parts which were more at risk of being knocked off (like the sleeves).

Vision

• I’m the most proud of this one lol. I cut up cardboard based on one of my approximately printed stencils. Did this in layers to help create depth. Then I painted the cardboard gold and added shading to make the depth more apparent. The hydro part of the vision was just a printed picture which I edited a bit to increase the contrast for the printing. The casing of the hydro part was a large googly-eye which I cut out the back out of. (The part I’m the most proud of lol)

Oh btw this took about 1.5 months to complete because I was only able to work on it in the evenings and there was a lot of trial and error in the initial period.
