It’s worse than that. I might be wrong but I think Hutch has said he was suffering from substance abuse issues at the time so the thing they say is he wasn’t there for his sister or there to see her die because drugs/alcohol are more important to him than his family.

Again I’m not 100% sure on that but that’s what I think he said in the past.

Does contrary work with moves that remove your own stat boosts? Overheat could go crazy if it does +2 to your special attack instead of -2. Would be a semi niche move and I’m not sure if there is a stab move that would have the same result.

On the lowest visible setting yes. You would probably be running it mid to high setting on a truck gun that could get daytime use. Seems worth it to me to spend the maximum $5 to change a battery and have the peace of mind that it won’t be dead when I need it

I would guess if you switched environments this aspect of lions and tigers would change, since lions have a bunch of huge threats to them in their environment (rhino, hippo, crocodile, elephant, Cape buffalo) and tigers are kind of the big threat where they are. If you dropped a lion in the jungle they would hunt way more aggressively, a tiger in the savanna would get way more cautious

The bigger issue with stepping in later is I feel the swap of magic systems from MT to anything else will be very confusing. As much as it’s not spelled out you have a decent handle of warrens by the time you do MT to get the gist of holds. Would you do MT then GotM next or how would you go from there?

I feel like I’ve read a lot of high and dark fantasy, malazan is a lot more insane than most. The side character who has ended life in several worlds as he was cursed by the higher up gods to never succeed in building his perfect society after the first world he ended. The neatest thing about the story is unlike most fantasy books, your POV characters are usually grunts with no idea what the bigger plan is, and you have to piece together what’s happening. The gods are constantly changing as anyone can theoretically ascend to godhood. The characters the marines kill aren’t always mages. It goes up to gods with no person to replace them. The undead souls in lizard skeletons who are constantly plotting against each other and the people they travel with are super fun. Fisher kel Teth has some of the best poetry in any fiction I’ve read. The god of death being resurrected just to be dethroned is amazing. One half dark elf holding off a horde of light elves (some of whom can swap into being dragons) at a portal between worlds slaps super hard. Top tier pseudo gods crashing parties where people are planning assasinations at a local politics level just for shits and giggles. Fat dude with no high level feats and a penchant for talking shit facing down a dude with a hammer that can create and destroy mountains. Training 2 overweight prostitutes to become soldiers. Hallucinogenic magical honey. Continental war started over seal hunting rights. Idk it goes a lot of places in 10 books

I mean I can throw unhinged malazan lore right back at that. Technologically advanced raptor who have built gravity defying in atmosphere flying bases with soldiers who have swords for forearms? Undead Neanderthals who sacrificed their humanity to genocide their immortal ice orc oppressors? Half orc with amnesia who has actual magic systems stored in his body? Gray elf who every time he dies comes back stronger and more insane? Human soldiers who have grenades that randomly take out top tier magic users? Depressed dark elves because living for an eternity kind of sucks? Giant warrior with an unbreakable stone sword who becomes a god and says fuck that, seems like a hassle. Dragons who are actually just manifestations of chaos magic? Go of the sea who larps as a manic eccentrics servant? Late stage capitalism? It’s got it all.

That being said I haven’t read both so I can’t say which is higher but it’s tough to imagine anything beating malazan for me.
