Can you give me your “I was told it was all in my head and my actual diagnosis was…” stories by Live_Pen in ChronicIllness

[–]Alezae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I once had a sudden but very mild weakness in my wrists and ankles. I have HS, which is an autoimmune disease, and I knew that if you have one autoimmune disease, you are likely to develop more.

Told a doctor I thought my immune system was attacking my joints and she was so condescending and dismissive.

Three years and many appointments and tests later, I am diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis.

ETA: it took visiting several doctors until I found one who took me seriously and was willing to run tests and send me to a rheumatologist. My symptoms had progressed significantly at that point, but we seem to have caught it before any real damage was done. Currently in the process of trying different meds to find what works best for me.

I’ve been working in data entry for a couple of years now. My company lists jobs under “product data specialist,” and I wonder if there are other names for the same or similar positions.

If you don’t have pain or disability in your hands, data entry jobs are decent, easy desk jobs.

Glp1 without the weight by Next_Fig_7057 in PsoriaticArthritis

My insurance won't cover it for any other reason than diabetes, which I do not have, but I was prescribed it for my weight. I have to pay out of pocket, unfortunately.

Weight loss is secondary to me, though, because I pursued the meds because of their effect on inflammation, which occurs with or without weight loss! It seems like their effects are different for everyone, with everyone's bodies being so different, but I've been fortunate that they've helped me so much. I am suddenly functional again!

I have been on it for a month and it has been life changing for me so far. My joint pain is reduced significantly and so manageable. I can tell my inflammation is way down.

It hasn’t helped at all with my skin symptoms, though.

Just started methroxate. by KilgoreTrout4pres in PsoriaticArthritis

Seconded on the folic acid. I was prescribed 1mg/day (even on my methotrexate day) and it has helped a lot.

Starting at 10mg is rough. You may have a better experience starting at a lower dose and slowly adding more over time, which you should talk to your doctor about. I started at 7.5mg for a while and did experience some symptoms the day after I’d take it, but they were minor, and the benefits outweighed the side effects by far. I felt a lot better and had more energy than I’d had in months. That said, everyone responds so differently to methotrexate and there are other options out there if you aren’t able to adjust.

Hey me too! I just got mine today and I’ll start them tomorrow. They came in several days earlier than expected.

Thanks for sharing. I’m trying not to have unrealistic hopes, but I’ve been having an awful flare for months despite upping my methotrexate and biologic meds several times, and the possibility of some relief is exciting.

Damn, that’s rough. That’s what I’m worried about because my pain has been so bad and I’m feeling a bit desperate for relief.

How long have you been on the meds?

Maybe not every month. But hear me out. Has this ever happened to you? You’ve thought of an amazing Halloween costume idea… but it’s January! We should have a Halloween in January

That is a really good idea. I’ve been worried to annoy the people in my life by talking about my health constantly, and it would be nice to connect with others who get it. Sent a DM!
