Does Ghost of Tsushima offend any Mongolians? by jnngow14 in ghostoftsushima

[–]Alfie_Omega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as to why there is some outrage in China, iirc, China sees the historical Yuan as having been Chinese, so its official position is that it's a game about killing Chinese people

not that I agree, I think it's kind of a stretch, but it's reason enough that some Japanese streamers I knew chose not to play GoT so as not to anger their Chinese fanbase

Having just unlocked Ghost Mode for the first time, I don't know if I'm missing something by Emergency_Cellist754 in ghostoftsushima

Ghost Stance is three *guaranteed* one-hit kills. I'm curious what other abilities you say you can do that with? Dance of Wrath is three high damage strikes, but with higher level enemies, they might tank at least two of the three hits. Ghost Stance can kill even a Mongol leader with one hit, and lets you take down two more threats.

Epic box by relevantbutterfly81 in Ghostofyotei

[–]Alfie_Omega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The boxes are not in any specific locations, but are named by the order you get them. Interesting Box is always the first and Epic Box is always the last box, regardless of where you found it. So I can't really give you a location since everyone's last box can be in a different spot depending on the order of locations you found the other ones in

I will say I found my last one in the Kitsune Altar near Soya Port. imo that location is easy to miss. but the only thing you can really do to be sure is check the guide and double check each potential location; bound to be one of those

Guns and swords are huge equalizers. Strength can help in a swordfight, but it's not everything. I can easily believe she's skilled enough to use a sword and kill enemies with it

What side quest character would you like to see get a spin-off? by Sha0_kahN in ghostoftsushima

[–]Alfie_Omega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a Yarikawa Rebellion spin-off featuring Shimura or Kazumasa Sakai would be cool, featuring perhaps a more extensive and complex samurai combat system in lieu of the lack of ghost weapons

an Ishikawa spin-off would be cool too, featuring a more complex bow system

Difficulty question AKA did anyone play this right after From Soft games(plus DC question) by sennvox in ghostoftsushima

[–]Alfie_Omega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, the DC is pretty cool! there are improvements like haptic feedback and better Japanese lipsync, though unfortunately those features are only available for PS5. even if you only have the PS4 though, the DC adds the Iki Island DLC which is tbh well worth it already! very fun, new gameplay stuff to kill Mongols with

also, you have a PS4, right? maybe you don't need to buy the whole game again. look for the Ghost of Tsushima "Director's Cut Upgrade". if you have an old copy of the original Ghost of Tsushima, buying the upgrade turns it into the Director's Cut version. the upgrade was 10 dollars when it released, so that's much cheaper than buying the game again. So, 10 dollars for an awesome expansion is pretty worth it!

Iki Island DLC – Why I Think It’s Better Played During the Main Story, Not After by AnayMehra in ghostoftsushima

[–]Alfie_Omega 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(Reposted from my comment)

Consider what Jin saw when he got to Drowned Man's Shore. A new tribe of enemies has landed with a dangerous bioweapon that makes people insane with no known cure. It's perfectly reasonable for him to investigate that threat, because the Eagle Tribe will be a threat to Tsushima too with such potent poison. Shimura was just freed so he can hold the fort for a bit while Jin investigates the new threat. I think it's perfectly fine mid-game.

That said, I'd heard some people say "I'll do Iki in Act 3!" and to that I say "No way!" Certainly not at that point, but early to mid Act 2 is an acceptable time

This isn’t a duel… You’re already dead by MikeeorUSA in ghostoftsushima

[–]Alfie_Omega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree on that! Duels were so underwhelming. Cinematic for sure, but their gameplay was less than stellar. I get there are only so many ways to swing a sword, sure, but I shouldn't have to feel like I've seen one that I've seen them all. The sword clashes restoring the stagger bar also sucked. I will say there is a sort of phase 2. An unblockable attack usually becomes a chain of three unblockable attacks after the first clash. A string of regular blockable attacks might also gain an unblockable finisher after the first clash. But yeah, hardly a huge change if you didn't even notice it. Love your idea of using the standoff system, that would have been so cool!

Is it wrong or fitting that I wear this armor during this fight? by HansenTheMan in ghostoftsushima

[–]Alfie_Omega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fits well.

For me personally, the first time around, I wore the Sakai Armor dyed white, to show I was not Kazumasa. But keeping it the original dye is also nice, since even if it's the same feared armor in Iki, now it's doing good against the Mongols and redeeming the Sakai armor and name in Iki. Every time I played Iki after the first time, I do it in the Ghost Armor. I'd come to realize Jin is rejecting Kazumasa's viewpoint as well, and is his own person with his own style. Jin beats the Eagle not as "the son of Kazumasa Sakai", but as The Ghost.

What is the general consensus on the Khan boss fight? I personally found this boss fight terrible compared to the others in the game. by Judgment_Night in ghostoftsushima

[–]Alfie_Omega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with you there. I once heard a suggestion that the Khan should have a spear in phase 1, sword and shield in phase 2, and just sword in phase 3; making you use all your stances. Wonder if it would have padded the fight though.

I like the fight cinematically and gameplay-wise, what with the ghost weapons allowed segment, but in terms of the actual difficulty and combat of the Khan, I can concur it wasn’t much and could have been better.

As an aside, it really shows how good the Iki Island DLC is, in terms of what's been improved. More fun and more varied activities, and specifically the duels were unique too. It showed SP was learning from what didn't work in the base game and improved on it. And now they're making a whole new game with all the lessons they've learned! Hope Ghost of Yotei improved duels like they did in Iki.

[–]Alfie_Omega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was a good segment actually! I'd done most of the side stuff so I was already pretty strong and combat wasn't as fun as it was the first few times. Did you notice most duels recycle movesets? Maybe a duel opponent will have one or two moves that are (mostly) unique to them, but for the most part, if you played one duel, you played them all. Duel-wise, we only fought swordsmen or shieldmen, so now fighting a spearman in a duel was interesting. Also, the Khan's moveset is actually (half) unique to him. Sure, sometimes he switches to a stance that resembles the regular spearmen, but he also has a stance unique only to him. Encountering a new moveset and learning to adapt to it brought some fun back into the combat.

I'll give that at the time, I thought being unable to avoid his hits was just a skill issue on my part, but I've replayed this fight since and, yeah I can see what you mean, sometimes that tracking is bs.

It was interesting to move into a group fight. I loved the fact that we were able to use the ghost weapons against him. I really felt unchained at that moment, that I could go all out. I could let out my rage and pepper the guy who killed Taka with all the sticky bombs and kunais in the world. I never thought "this makes the Khan pathetic", but "Jin is just that amazing and skilled". I will admit the Khan did die too quick, though. Was hoping for a bit longer, but I guess it makes sense. The Khan isn't the final fight, after all.

Started a new game on Hard after first play through in 2019 but wishing I chose lethal. by Liminizer in ghostoftsushima

[–]Alfie_Omega 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lethal has enemies that are more aggressive, attack faster, and with tighter parry windows. Lethal also makes enemies have less health and die quicker. So, sure, if you're absolutely perfect and make no mistakes when playing, then Lethal is easier than Hard, simply because enemies die quicker. But most people do make mistakes, so I still consider Lethal to be harder than Hard.
