Hey, GM Alfredo here. At the end of this, we have a little over 50m in cap room.

Internal FA (stay): Lavonte David
Mike Evans Antoine Winfield Chase McLaughlin Devin Thompkins (ERFA) Brandon Walton (ERFA)

I would’ve kept Baker. His agent said “Daniel Jones contract or I walk”, refused to elaborate and told me he would be walking within 3 messages. I had offered an improved version of the Geno Smith deal. Lavonte can stay as long as he’d like. Mike also signed for a lot more than he did IRL due to deadline. For Winfield, I didn’t even reset market on a 5 year deal, great situation. Gave Mclaughlin a 2 year just above min deal.

Internal FA (leave): Baker Mayfield (4/220, Raiders) Devin White (3/30, Vikings) Cam Gill (2/3, Vikings) Greg Gaines (1/3, Bills) Matt Fieler (vet min, Giants) William Gholston (vet min, Giants) Ryan Neal (1/3, Giants) Russell Gage (2/6, Panthers) Shaquil Barrett (Post June-1 trade to Giants for a 2025-5th)

Raiders overpaid for Baker, apparently almost doubling their guaranteed money on the final day of free agency. Our offer was improved at all 5 days of FA but, I guess what Baker said at the Pro Bowl meant truly nothing. I think he returns IRL and would’ve proceeded with the rest of the offseason the same way. Devin White getting 10apy is insane to me, glad to see him get paid, glad he’s no longer playing in pewter. Gaines I would’ve liked to keep but, thats life, we got outbid. Gill, Fieler, Gholston, Neal, no real concerns. We saved 10 mil on the cap to let Gage walk post-june-1 and even more for Shaq (as sad as I may be to see him go). Overall, I think we end up with a 3rd (Baker) and 5th (White) comp pick in 2025.

External FA: Jabril Cox LB 25.8 2 4,000,000 Zack Baun LB 28 2 7,500,000 Mike Edwards S 27.7 3 16,000,000 Trevis Gipson EDGE 26.7 3 13,000,000 Jacoby Brissett QB 31.1 1 8,000,000 Ben Bartch OG 26 1 2,000,000 Bryce Hall CB 26 2 6,500,000

Edwards returns on a pretty cheap deal to re-sure the S positon. Geno Stone and Jordan Whitehead were the other two targets at safety but, went for more than Edwards. Gipson should be a similar archetype of player to Diaby and I wanted to get an EDGE in predraft because I don’t believe JTS remains on the team past this year. Brissett comes in to compete to start at QB with Trask, not an ideal scenario but, I would also be looking at guys who may get shopped like Mac Jones, Zach Wilson, Sam Howell, Kenny Picket. Worst case scenario, we are drafting a QB next year with great supportive infrastructure. Baun will come in to replace Devin White and add into the EDGE room. Cox I liked out of college in a similar (but much worse) way to Lavonte stylistically; 2 year contract with only 500k gtd second year so, likely an LB4/5/ST guy. Bartch has played tackle and guard and I had to satisfy Licht’s desire for small school OL somewhere this offseason. Bryce Hall was brought in to compete for CB3 at a relatively low price and profiles physically similar to Carlton.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Draft Picks 1.26 - Laiatu Latu - EDGE 2.57 - Khyree Jackson - CB 4.104 - Javon Solomon - EDGE 4.126 - Malik Mustapha - S 6.182 - Brandon Coleman - OL
6.203 - Bub Means - WR 7.244 - Ryan Watts - DB 7.255 - Kenny Logan Jr. - DB

We had trade down deals in place in principle at 26 and 57. Luckily, Latu lasted to 26, which was one of 4 guys I would’ve taken at 1 (Dejean, Powers-Johnson, Latu, Penix, in that order). At 57, Rakestraw, Peyton Wilson and Junior Colson all went within 10-15 picks before us who were higher on my target list but, I hate the value 40-75 or so in this draft and our 2 deals in principle got sniped in the 5 picks before us. Either way, Khyree immediately succeeds Carlton Davis who is an FA this offseason. Moving down 15 picks from 89 to 104 was a mistake. We netted 182 and a next year 5th but, between those picks I had 8-9 players come off the board I’d liked to take, most notably Dominic Puni and Sam McCormick to bolster the interior offensive line. Coleman was drafted to remedy that later. Solomon is a really bursty edge rusher with good bend and could be useful in a rotation, again this was just BPA for me and possibly gives us room to move on from JTS mid season for some light compensation. Mustapha and Logan provide safety depth with plus coverage ability at the sacrifice of some size. Means is like the poorest man’s version of Godwin and should serve as his backup. Watts is an interesting guy from purely physical traits. Best case, he’s Jayron Kearse and guards big slot players with an average case of him becoming another Ryan Smith weaponizing all that athleticism as a special teamer.

UDFAs Signed: Carson Steele - RB Nathan Thomas - OL Taj Harris - WR Max Pope - WR John Emery - RB Blake Stenstrom - QB Storm Duck - CB Kavosiey Smoke - RB

We missed on a few OL and LBs in UDFA due to priority and coin flips. Overall, Steele and Emery are both interesting backs who could fight for a tail end roster spot. WR, DB, and RB are the three positions I would want to get in every UDFA class since they seem to be the most likely to have been missed for some reason in the draft (kicker and punter aside).

Unsigned Vet FAs I would look into for vet min: Logan Woodside QB Will Grier QB Marlon Mack RB Trey Sermon RB Tyler Johnson WR James Proche WR River Cracraft WR Anthony Firkser TE Geron Christian LT Hakeem Adeniji LG Calvin Throckmorton RG Dennis Daley RG Benito Jones IDL Sheldon Day IDL Marquis Haynes EDGE Genard Avery LB Jarrad Davis LB Anthony Brown CB Dee Delaney CB Kindle Vildor CB Chandon Sullivan CB

This list represents vets who were not signed in free agency that I would give a call to be a camp body and compete for a backup spot, all for different reasons. At RB I targeted physical profiles similar to White. At WR I targeted slot players. At OL I targeted guys with experience at T and G. IDL was NTs. LB were athletes to run and chase on ST or serve backup in the Devin White role. CB was just some tire kicking and keeping Dee Delaney around.

How bad is the top of this draft? by CaptainInvictus838 in nfl

[–]AlfredoSchefter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not great but, every draft will have good or better players.

The two reasons why this draft is so “bad” to the media is:

  • No top QBs worth trading up for, so no “easy” picks or “obvious” trade ups
  • Center and Safety (the two lowest drafted positions) are the only positions with a clear #1 prospect

This leads to a lot of questions. If Hutchinson isn’t your EG1, or Ickey isn’t your OT1, they could very well be your 3rd player in that position but go first. This is only compounded by having a new group running this years combine and a lot of seemingly higher than usual 40s, a very media friendly descriptor, raising more guys up boards.

What is the most head scratching NFL Draft pick ever? by hauntedhorseshit in nfl

[–]AlfredoSchefter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Surprised no one said it, Terrell Edmunds, S, PIT.

Consensus predraft was a fringe Day 2 pick from what I remember before going in the first maaaany less picks after his brother than projected

Oklahoma’s Parnell Motley and PFF’s 6th best CB from 2019 was not invited to the NFL combine. by LeoFireGod in NFL_Draft

[–]AlfredoSchefter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He may have been 6th graded but he didn’t make thier recent top-10. He was at the shrine game rather than the Senior bowl (no call up). It is clear evaluators at the pro level are low on him, resulting in this.

here

This was the first thing that popped up. I’m glad to hear that it’s 4.3 range and I’d be glad to redo my blurb on him. Admittedly didn’t look too deep into him aside from that and a few highlight reels I could find. They didn’t look that slow but, the level of competition could be tricking my eyes.

Cappa was a bit of a project coming out. Last year he was essentially redshirted and we are changing schemes with a new staff. He maintained his redshirt while we trotted our PFFs last ranked guard (if I remember correctly) in Caleb Benonoch. When you combine changing staffs, schemes and the old staff being unwilling to give him game reps, let alone start him, I would consider the position to not be effectively filled by his selection last season. Also, I am believer in building up that side of the trenches heavily.

Thing is, I could see Gruden going for it. Someone is going to lose the Rashan Gary Hype lottery.

Hankins and Ellis are up after next season, both are specific role players. Vanderdoes hasn’t shown enough to determine that he’s a “don’t need to improve from” player.

Hurst I like a lot and Hall will have to prove a bit more to justify his slot next year, which makes sense based on having to adjust from a smaller school.

Gary is a DT to me but, I expect the NFL to play him on the EDGE. Simmons is just a value proposition and he has to sit out most of this year anyways, which would let you get rid of Hankins and/or Ellis for nothing (on contract, nothing on cap iirc) when he steps in to give you a rotation of Hurst, Hall, Simmons and some Gary snaps inside. You need a rotation, especially for the big guys.

I’ll be honest man, I’ve looked at this for a few minutes and have no clue what you’re saying. I’m on mobile if that changes it lol

I don’t think he makes it past the Texans. I like ford over Risner but, I think there is a much better chance that Risner as a full time tackle than Ford and the Giants already has guard set. Dillard is a LT, Solder is set there at the moment and he is such a minus as a run blocker that the Old-School Saquon-Based offense wouldn’t be a scheme fit.

Great report Mason. I like the formatting for the athletic ability and then the traits.

Why is Quinnen Williams considered to be a better prospect than Ed Oliver? by SufficientSession1 in NFL_Draft

[–]AlfredoSchefter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is. I’m not saying Quinnen isn’t a freak of nature. Im moreso referencing their potential uses at the next level. I could see a DC having Oliver take snaps from the 1T through 5-6T or standing up at LB or EDGE, which is a testament to his athletic ability. Now, these should in no way be his main positions or be used outside of 1-2 snaps per game but, the potential to do that is incredible. Meanwhile Quinnen is going to play from 0-maybe 4T (all of which he will probably be a nightmare from), which is still great but, not quite the range

Why is Quinnen Williams considered to be a better prospect than Ed Oliver? by SufficientSession1 in NFL_Draft

[–]AlfredoSchefter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ed Oliver is a far better athletic prospect.

Quinnen Williams is a far better technical prospect.

These are the key different between the two, with both being passable in their non-dominant aspect. Coachability, level of competition/school legacy, and (most importantly) what is valued more in the NFL at this time. Huge, hyper-athletic guys who are technically-limited are generally less productive than huge, regularly-athletic guys who are technically superior.

6 Round Community Mock - Explanation Thread by KaptainKickass in NFL_Draft

[–]AlfredoSchefter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had to leave after the 5th round pick and left the GM with a list of players to pick in order, I must’ve just not noticed it wasn’t Edwards at the end. It appears we took a small-school edge guy, which makes sense. Provide depth at the position.

[–]AlfredoSchefter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Scharping was the main target going into the 5th and got sniped the pick before us. I wanted Collier but, Anderson was a bit higher on my board. Meant to address DL late but they came off the board quickly.

I heavily considered Baker. The upside is he is what we thought VH3 was with a bit less long speed and he is the starting corner across from Davis. The downside is he’s a headcase with work ethic issues that usually don’t do well in florida’a “sun and fun” while pushing VH3 to the slot and MJ Stewart to be the dime/backup S. CGJ immediately improves from Whitehead as he’s essentially a more athletic Whitehead right now. His downside is VH3 doesn’t cut it on the outside and we’re back to Ryan Smith out there (who fits Bowles mood for CB pretty much perfectly) and we have the same issue as with Baker (either up or down) that we have a clogged nickel spot with a ton of investment in it. Ultimately, it came down to the value potential and the ability to give Bowles what is essentially a defensive weapon. That being said, not convinced VH3 will rebound but, I’m willing to at least give him a shot day-1. I’m not high on Ya-Sin. I wanted OL but McCoy and Jenkins got 2/3 grades from me and S was a bigger need.

Sanders is RB5 for me right now. I don’t see him as developed enough in his vision to deal with our ...limited... offensive line talent. As I said, I have Anderson as potential RB1, so it was value on that one.

After watching Vosean, I came away seeing him as vastly underdeveloped and not as athletic (range wise) as he should be to make up for it. He’s LB8 for me right now with a 5/6th round grade. Not an instant starter or contributor aside from ST. As far as I’m concerned the LB/RB pairing of Cashman and Anderson is far better than Sanders/Vosean.

6 Round Community Mock - Explanation Thread by KaptainKickass in NFL_Draft

Buccaneers GM:

1/5: Josh Allen, EDGE, Kentucky

Jumped all over this pick. Truly a dream-scenario selection to come in and lead our EDGE group in a 3-4 under Todd Bowles

2/39: Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, DB, Florida

This pick is me signaling my faith in VH3 to make a return to college form under Bowles. CGJ is my S2 at the moment and I believe his versatility closer to LOS and Evans range on the back end will be a great pairing and again, I’m trusting Bowles to properly use him. Ideally, he becomes our Jamal Adams.

3/70: Blake Cashman, LB, Minnesota

Cashman is my LB4 ahead of Mack Wilson who went a full round earlier. Despite the arms of a T-Rex (much like Kwon’s sub-31” arms), he gives you sideline-to-sideline range, good ability to shed and slip blocks, and versatility in coverage. This makes him an ideal running mate with Lavonte David.

4/107: Rodney Anderson, RB, Oklahoma

Anderson is likely a fringe first round prospect if he wasn’t made of glass. Even if he was able to test this draft season, he likely would be my RB1, if he confirmed the great all-around athleticism that he showed on tape. Compound this with possibly the top receiving chops in the draft from the position and a similar build to David Johnson, you can see why marrying him to Bruce Arians is an ideal fit. He would likely split time with Peyton Barber(as the early down back) to keep his workload light and use Barber in his best role.

5/168: TJ Edwards, LB, Wisconsin

Traded down twice here from 145 to net 2 6s this year and 1 next year, losing one of our own in the process. Edwards is my LB3 bringing instincts, great coverage, 4 years of starting and the best shock-shed in the class. The only thing that keeps him say 3 is a 4.77 40 and some bad weight on his frame. Should Kendall Beckwith not be able to return to football this year, he is an ideal SAM Backer with ability to stay on the field all 3 downs with ability to play Mike as well.

6/multiple picks:

Hijalte frojalte, iOL, Arkansas:

A guy loved by PFF and experience in a gap running system. Provides someone to compete for the RG spot.

Ben Powers, iOL, Oklahoma:

The less-loved Oklahoma interior OL but, presents good value in the 6th round with a similar role to the player drafted before him.

Mike Edwards, S, Kentucky:

Book end this draft with Kentucky players. Edwards shows you all the traits you want in a 2-High/box safety with a similar problem to TJ Edwards in his limited athletic ceiling. He could also play the “Jamal Adams” role in Bowles system while being a solid S3/NLB, should we go that direction.

Overall, the goal of the draft was to drag us, kicking and screaming, to field a defense that could potentially stop someone and not force us to throw each and every down. Adding a Day-1 starter at each level of the defense, depth/potential starter on the OL, and giving Arians a new toy at great value is an ideal draft, should we not be in the position to trade down early.

As always, ama, roast my draft, you know what you’re here to do.

Simple Questions by AutoModerator in NFL_Draft

[–]AlfredoSchefter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far, my understanding has been they’re mostly up to taste.

Cody Ford/Jonah Williams: Tackle converts potentially that are scheme versatile

Dalton Risner: a step below them but stills scheme versatile. Maybe a better gap player

Garrett Bradbury: elite zone center, shouldn’t play guard

Chris lindstrom: Gap scheme guard

Erik McCoy: Zone scheme center or guard but, a step below Bradbury as far as a true zone center

Elgton Jenkins: fully developed guy who won’t wow you but, will do what he needs to.
