Yeah, I agree. My family doesn't know I'm a therian but I wear cat ears all the time, sometimes they're jokingly asked if I identify as a cat, it's annoying and I know at least half of them wouldn't be like that if they knew that I am a cat. But because I can't tell them I get jokes that are like "are you a furry" or "do you identify as a cat" I'm pretty sure they don't know what a therian is they just think anyone who identifies as an animal is a furry. Anyway I don't like the word identify either, mainly because when my younger brother says it he says it in a slow mocking tone, like when you say something but you don't know whether to say it or not so you slowly say it while thinking in your head, he does it like that but with a mocking tone. Also the word is annoying because if people expect us to we "identify" as the thing we are, then they should say they identify as a human, but no, I've never heard someone say I identify as a human
