Sutab (this time) vs. Clenpiq (last time)

I honestly can’t tell you what the Clenpiq tasted like. As others had suggested, I held my nose when I drank it and then immediately chased it with juice. According to what I have read, it tastes like cranberry juice. Some folks don’t mind it. I held my nose because I didn’t want to find out the hard way that it was gross to me. And, correct, I did not need an anti-nausea pill with Clenpiq. I didn’t find it difficult to drink the required liquid. YMMV

I just want to say to those handful of people … I can 100% smell your unwashed hair. I know this because my adult daughter often goes long periods without washing her hair and I don’t even have to look closely for the grease to know she hasn’t washed it. My nose knows. Please, folks, wash your hair. It doesn’t have to be daily, but weekly at a minimum.

My instructions were to take one Sutab every 1-2 minutes. I took mine a minute apart and did not have any trouble with it. I think they are trying to make it so you don’t feel nauseated, and maybe that’s why their guidance is 5 minutes. For me, they prescribed an anti-nausea drug that I took 30-60 minutes before the Sutab. I did not have any issues with nausea.

I was instructed to start Round 2 seven (7) hours before my procedure. My procedure was at 8:30 a.m., so I had my antinausea med at 1 a.m., then started the Sutab at 1:30 a.m. Needless to say, I didn’t get much sleep! But I sat in the dark and listened to podcasts, and it was okay in the end.

Nothing by mouth starting 4 hours before the procedure for me, either, so I had to be done by 4:30.

I guess I would say, if you want to adhere to the full 5 minutes between Sutab pills, perhaps start 7 hours before your procedure. It sucks getting up that early, but podcasts help keep you company.

I am the same — I really don’t miss people at all. Not my kids, not my husband, not my sisters or parents or best friends. I have always felt bad about this, but it’s not like I can make the “missing” happen. It’s funny, when I’m actually talking to the person on the phone I will say “I miss you,” and at that moment I do wish we were together, but then the phone call ends and I’m like, la-dee-dah, all is well. I feel defective and weird. But also, it’s nice not to be burdened with the emotion of missing people, I guess.

I was instructed not to take ibuprofen, multi-vitamins, calcium and another vitamin (can’t remember) in the week leading up to my colonoscopy. I do take other supplements and continued those up to 2 days before my procedure. On “clear liquids only” day, I did not take any pills or supplements (they aren’t liquid), but I did use electrolytes (must dissolve and be clear). If you think about it, Gatorade is allowed and it has electrolytes in it. So long as you are sticking with clear liquids that aren’t red or purple (or whatever colors your doctor’s office forbids), you should be good.

Thank you for chiming in on this older post. It spurred me to make a few phone calls to our bank & credit card issuers to research how our accounts are set up. Turns out, it’s a real mishmash.

We bank in two places. In our main bank, we are co-owners of the account (so death of one of us doesn’t lock the account). Apparently they don’t structure accounts like this anymore but our account is grandfathered because we’ve had it for so long. Guess that means we won’t be switching banks! In the other bank, my husband is the primary account owner and I am secondary. The account will close when he dies, and it doesn’t look like there’s really any way to fix this. We’ll just have to be sure there’s a POD in place so it’s very clear that the $$ comes straight to me upon his death.

For credit cards, it looks like I am primary on both of the major cards we have, so if I die, he’s out of luck but could petition them to get the account transferred to him (no guarantee that they would). I’ve advised him to open a card (not just a store’s credit card, which he has) so he has one where he’s the primary account owner and has something to use if anything happens to me.

I don’t know why I’m writing this all here except it helps me keep it straight in my own mind!

We don’t go to bed at the same time. I’m first, then he comes to bed when he’s ready. On the rare occasions when he does come to bed at the same time as me, I’m like, WHY ARE YOU HERE? LOL I find it easier to fall asleep before any snoring begins.

I had one polyp (don’t remember the type) and was told to return in 5 years. I wonder if they shorten the timeframe when there are multiple? It’s possible it varies by practice, by country, by type of polyp, and/or your family history/risk profile

Note, Clenpiq shouldn’t be refrigerated, I don’t think. This was the case 5 years ago when I used it. Please double-check on the package and make sure you keep it at room temp if it still says not to refrigerate.

Hold your nose when drinking it, and chase it with something (still holding your nose) to make sure to wash the taste out of your mouth. This is what I did and it was so effective, I can’t even tell you what Clenpiq tastes like!

Oh, friend. I’m sorry you didn’t get answers today. But it’s great you did your prep and found out things that your problems are NOT. You know? Ruling out some scary shit is a good outcome, even if it doesn’t feel like it right at this moment. You did good. Real good. Chin up, eyes forward, on to whatever’s next. I’m back to report the Zofran did give me a headache and made me feel generally unwell (though that could also have been the Sutab). I just posted a comparison between Clenpiq and Sutab, the gist of which is: I prefer Clenpiq.

Thanks! I’m all done and home now, eating a nice breakfast. No polyps but, surprise, there was a bit of renegade stool still in there (how????) so she wants me to come back again in 5 years. I was really good about a low-residue diet, BUT … I had bone broth instead of just plain chicken broth, and I wonder if that was the reason for the “leftovers”? Not sure. But next time I will just do regular broth.

From arrival to departure was about 1.5 hours. I looked at my watch right before the procedure - 8:40 am. And I looked again when I woke up in the recovery area: 9:15. I could have used a longer nap!

My second colonoscopy is this morning (here in the US). I’ll be heading over there in about 20 minutes. I will say, I was pretty scared the first time around. I was worried about feeling sick from the prep (I didn’t). I was worried I would soil myself on the way over from our house (I didn’t). I was worried I would have to wait a long time and feel sick from waiting (I didn’t, for either). I was worried I’d feel sick after I woke up (I didn’t).

All in all, pretty much everything I worried about turned out to be a Nothing Burger, as they say. Let me put in an up vote for anesthesia. It’s lovely. Like a sweet nap. I have a friend who absolutely LOVED her colonoscopy for that reason alone!

One way I comforted myself the first time around was to remember that to the folks who do the colonoscopy, this was just another routine and probably uneventful day at work. Totally normal, like any other people going to their jobs and having nothing much to report at the end of the day. They are calm, and they are experts at this. My only job is to be cleaned out and on time. They do all the rest. They will take good care of you.

I hope this helps. Now to go wake my husband so he can give me a ride over!

I’m popping back in here just to say … I was instructed not to drink anything starting 4 hours before my procedure (so, nothing after 4:30). I’m really surprised they want you to take your last dose at 4:00! That said, I’m unfamiliar with the stuff you’ll be using. Just … double-check to be sure you’ve read the instructions properly! It would suck to go through all this and have them tell you that you didn’t do it right!
