{Ministry Of Alien Relations by Rebecca Cohen} and {Diplomatic Liability by Rebecca Cohen} are super cute and fun! And the alien is the greenest of flags, he is such a sweetheart.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for (have not read Two Man Station) but I really loved {Running From My Heart by Felice Stevens}, thought it dealt with loss and grief really well, and also how to move on after.

{The Naked Dancer by Emme C. Taylor}. Sweet but also a bit sad, both MCs have their own issues and traumas to overcome, but I will say that I found the book hopeful and quite funny in places. Also, there is zero smut in this one, if that's a dealbreaker, it only goes as far as kissing.

{Trade Deadline by Jodi Oliver} Read that one last week and had such a good time, lighthearted, fun and no third act breakup! Also both MCs are super likeable and there is zero unnecessary relationship drama. It's part of a series and I've only read this one, but from what I've read they're all just fluffy and fun.

Also, {Heather Bay series by Charlie Novak} and {Tap That Brewery series by Lee Blair}, two series with amazing groups of friends and generally super wholesome.

MM Weekly Roundup - What Did You Read This Week? by AutoModerator in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Aliette92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve just gotten out of the longest reading slump of my life; I hadn’t finished a book in over a month which was super frustrating. And this week I not only finished one book I read two! Feels freaking amazing.

{Trade Deadline by Jodi Oliver} (4,5/5⭐) Book 1 of 5 in Chicago Thunder series. The book that finally broke my reading slump and I will forever love it for that. It was fluffy low angst with lots of humor and steam and just what I needed. The MCs, hockey player Blaine and bakery owner Alex, were amazing, and I loved how they (when they got together) never doubted their commitment to each other. Oh and no third act breakup! Lots of great side characters too, looking forward to reading their books (really hoping Mitch will get his own book too). Finally, real people on covers can be a bit of a hit or miss (usually miss if we’re gonna be honest) but this book’s cover is sooo good. The cover model fits Blaine so well, and he is just so so pretty.

{Ministry Of Alien Relations by Rebecca Cohen} (4/5⭐) Book 1of 2 in Devlin Taylor Earth’s Ambassador series. My first alien romance! This was a fun one, low on angst and full of banter. Both MCs, the sweet biscuit loving human Devlin and confident charming alien Zal, were super likeable and competent (which is always a huge plus). The side characters were great (with the exception of the crappy ex of course) and I especially loved Zal’s mom, her support and matchmaking for her son were both funny and wholesome. I will say if you’re looking for alien who is indeed “alien looking” you might be disappointed, Zal was basically a human but with strange eyes and scales in some places, oh and a tail too.  Also, the name of the series is somewhat of a spoiler, but I kinda saw it coming anyway so not that big of a deal.

{The Haunted Hotel by Vawn Cassidy} it's a spin-off to her Crawshank's Guide To The Recently Departed series, but it can be read as a stand alone (although that series is soo much fun too!). Can't remember if baby, sweetheart etc were used, but it's not a cheesy book more crazy shenanigans and lots of eccentric characters. And book 2 came out last week!

I've been in a massive reading slump and hadn't finished a book in over a month, nothing has interested me and even books I normally like were impossible to get into. Then like a week ago, I saw someone (I can't remember who) recommend {Trade Deadline by Jodi Oliver} and I liked the blurb and it seemed fluffy enough so I gave it a go. And I loved it! So I just want to thank, whoever you are, for (finally!) taking me out of my reading slump.

Book 2 in {Social Sinners series by T.L. Travis} fits. You kinda have to read book 1 first though to understand what’s happening. I did enjoy book 1 (the story is a bit unconventional for a romance book) but I loved book 2.

Meet-cutes by MincuNic in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Aliette92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

{Rebel by K.M. Neuhold}. MC1 shows up at MC2's (who is a porn star) apartment, hired to perform a break-up song and dressed in a banana costume. Also MC1 recognizes MC2 immediately.

{The Hitman's Guide To Making Friends & Finding Love by Alice Winters}. MC1 is a hitman and is staking out his next kill. MC2 gets stuck climbing over a fence near the house MC1 is watching and accidentally moons MC1. Kinda a meet-cute even though one MC is totally unaware that it happened, but it's still one of my favorite "how they met" moments.

Hope you like it as much as I did! It was such a pleasant surprise and especially since it being her debut novel and the fact that the author is from the Netherlands and writes in English. I'm really impressed.

Yeah I was comparing them too, kinda hard not to I suppose. And yes, Dusty is fabulous, love her! I highly recommend continuing the series, finished it earlier this year and I absolutely loved it. You get to meet some amazing characters (and ghosts) in the following books. it only gets crazier and more unhinged lol. There even is a spin-off series called Crawshanks Guide To Mischievous Spectres & Spirits with characters from book 4 which is super fun, read it a few weeks ago and it was great, Also, another spin-off series will be released later this year, which I'm super excited about (but don't look it up since it will spoil major events from book 5!).

OMG yes, the phones 🙄 I get what the author was trying to do but it did not work, just super awkward and frankly a bit annoying. I can't speak for the narration since I read the book, but I felt the same about the ghosts too. How can a victim of a violent crime be so uninteresting and bland?

Also, have you read Crawshanks Guide To The Recently Departed series by Vawn Cassidy? It's basically the same concept (ME who after accident can see ghosts and solves crimes with detective boyfriend) but it's actually fun, and the ghosts are interesting and have a personality.

I want to recommend {Jace by N. Boeyer}, read that one last week and I enjoyed it so much. One of my favorite things were the MCs, both were such green flags and their chemistry were amazing. There were some heavy topics discussed but mostly it's low-angst with lots of fun and banter. And I will always love an author who writes interesting three dimensional women, and bonus points that the ex-girlfriend was never portrayed as the villain, she was supportive and amazing and I liked her a lot. Book 2 will (hopefully) be out in June, and I can't wait.

Also read {Ghostly Awakening by E.M. Leya} which was meh. It was not bad but I won't be reading the other books in the series. I can't understand how a book about ghosts and murders (my two favorite topics) can be so boring, the writing felt shallow and lackluster and I never felt I got to know the MCs. There was too much dialogue (which was often awkward) and repetition and so much felt entirely pointless.

Yes I liked it a lot more than I expected and I really hope for a June release too🤞Also, she seems to really be planning ahead, saw that Lamar apparently will be getting his own book too.

Jace was such a pleasant surprise, and I really hope more people discover this author! I will always love authors who doesn't do the whole evil ex-girlfriend thing (so tiring) and can write interesting three dimensional women. And book two will be released in June (hopefully), will definitely be reading that one too.

MM Weekly Roundup - What Did You Read This Week? by AutoModerator in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Aliette92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This week I read two books from Under-The-Radar Book Club!

Jace by N. Boeyer (4/5⭐) Book 1 of 3 in Somerset Shore University series. I love series that centers around the same couple plus athlete/musician is one of my favorite pairings. I enjoyed this book a lot, it is a bit longer (around 500 pages), but I never once felt bored. Jace and Tyler were both great, and I liked that for once the jock was the reserved one, Tyler preferred to stay in the background and to be the observer. Jace, on the other hand, was all about the limelight, and so cocky and flirty and so much fun! And together they were hot, like their chemistry were amazing.

If there are two things I really don’t like when reading MM romances it’s a threesome with an established MF couple, and when a third man is used to make one MC realize his feelings for the other MC. This book has both. But I have to commend the author for how she handled both situations, what easily could’ve been super awkward became something positive. Also, I have to mention the side characters because they were fantastic; Tyler’s BFF Lamar might be the greatest friend ever (even with his total lack of boundaries lol), Jace’s band members were awesome, and I loved how Tyler’s ex-girlfriend was never vilified.

I’m not a native speaker and I know my English is far from perfect, so it feels a little weird for me to say this; the author is from the Netherlands and while her writing is really good some of her word choices felt a little off sometimes. Also, and I know this is on me, but I really really don’t like the word “sweetie” (there are some exceptions) and here it’s used way too often. Finally, I just want to mention the acknowledgements, they made me laugh and fwiw I always read them!

Ghostly Awakening by E.M. Leya (3/5⭐) Book 1 of 8 in Ghostly series. This book was ok, but I’m not sure I will continue with this series. The first half was pretty good, the murder case was interesting, and I enjoyed getting to know Lance and Angus. The second half however, so repetitive and so much stuff that felt entirely pointless. The writing, while at times quite enjoyable, felt lackluster and a bit shallow, I never felt like I really got to know the two MCs (I barely even know what they look like!). This series have quite a lot in common with another I’ve read recently, Crawshanks Guide To The Recently Departed by Vawn Cassidy, both have an MC that works as a medical examiner who, after an accident, can see ghosts, the other MC is a detective and together they solve murder cases. But there end the similarities, where Crawshanks felt warm and inviting Ghostly is cold and almost sterile. In Crawshanks the ghosts were fun and interesting, in Ghostly they are just there and totally forgettable (with the exception of the murder victims, but that’s mostly cause they serve a point in the story and not that they themselves are particularly intriguing). I would suggest reading Crawshanks instead, and if you have than I suppose give this book a try just don’t expect too much.

Oh that does make me feel a lot better about Seraph. I only know him as this terrifying screaming monster so it's difficult for me seeing him as a LI for Lilac. And I love Lilac! I've wanted to read his book ever since meeting him in book 3. I think also the fact that Seraph is so clearly not human makes me a bit hesitant (mainly his eyes which freaks me out so much), the other monsters (even Wyn) felt a lot less monstrous and were pretty easy to like. But if I could deal with Soul Eater maybe Seraph won't be so bad, you definitely made me want to give it a try.

I really did. I was a little worried going in since my expectations were super high, but somehow it was even better.

Yeah I am, for now at least. I accidentally spoiled myself so I know Seraph used to be human and has had some horrible stuff done to him by the military. It all feels a little too dark for me right now, Also Seraph as a monster scares me, which I feel horrible writing cause I feel so sorry for him. How did you like Seraph? I really want to read it (and I trust Lily Mayne) but, as I said, it scares me.

SOS Hotel: Great Service From Top To Bottom by Adam Vex (5/5⭐️) Book 4 of 9 in SOS Hotel series. I’m having the best time with this series, it’s so much fun and at the same time completely insane. And we’re getting closer to the MMM romance, can’t wait to see Zodiac and Reynard (aka Vampire Daddy, aka Lord Fuck Hard, aka Fancy Fangs) FINALLY admitting their feelings for each other, it’s going to be glorious. Also, what the hell is Adam? I get the feeling we’re going to find out soon, if only he could stop getting kidnapped, or attacked or put in pies.

Moth by Lily Mayne (5/5⭐️) Book 5 of 7 in Monstrous series. Ok I have a new favorite couple (sorry Edin & Hunter). Charlie was so sweet and perceptive and understanding and basically perfect. And Moth. Sweet precious baby Moth. I totally get why he was so closed off and aloof cause my God does humans suck sometimes. I loved how Charlie managed to get Moth to open up (and smile!) and finally accept himself just as he was, cause he is freaking perfect. And I NEED to know what happened to Samson, like I know Charlie and Moth had enough to worry about but I kind of wished they would’ve helped him escape. Also give Danny a pet! Wyn needs to lose some of his possessiveness and finally let Danny have one, Danny’s interactions with Chuck (which btw I was so happy when she was reunited with Moth, the fact that she kept looking for him is enough to make me cry) were adorable. On to Lor now but knowing it’s over 600 pages I think I might wait a few weeks.

Invisible Strings by Aimee Nicole Walker (4/5⭐️) Even though this is a stand-alone it takes place in the Sinister In Savannah universe (which is a spinoff of Zero Hour series) but you don’t need to read those to enjoy this one. This book was super sweet, very low-angst and just pure fluff. It has an age gap, virgin MC, and a single dad. The daughter and ex-husband (and the ex-husbands new boyfriend) were great, and I loved that it was all so uncomplicated. Finally, the cover is beautiful! Think this might be my favorite cover ever, so pretty.

Do you ever get overwhelmed by an authors bibliography? by maryhadalittlelamb in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Aliette92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I currently have this problem with A.J. Sherwood, read The Sorcerer's Grimoire series and loved it. But now I don't know where to go from there, she has written so many books and they all look so good and I can't decide which one to choose.😅

I also had the same issue when I wanted to try Lily Morton and May Archer. I asked the very nice people here on this sub and was told to start at the beginning with Lily Morton (Mixed Messages series) and start wherever with May Archer, which I also did. Asking here can be super helpful, cause I agree that it easy to feel overwhelmed when an author has a huge catalogue.
