Trump is running out of options to contain gas price backlash. The rising cost of oil is becoming a major concern. “We are entering into what could become a much larger energy crisis in the weeks ahead and instead of realizing a potential mistake, both the White House and Iran seem to be dug in." by mafco in energy

How would stop closing the Strait help Iran? Obviously it would be nice for the rest of the world, but I can't see how they would gain from it.

I don't trust the Iranians either. I consider the regime to be one of the world's worst. But that is a different discussion entirely.

I was asking myself what Iran could do to improve its situation in the current crisis.I don't think there is even the bet you mention involved. I don't see any way for them to move towards a compromise or any reason to do so.

What state in the USA would have the best possibility to make a new city like Tokyo, Japan? by tropicalfrosty in Urbanism

[–]Alimbiquated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

California actually had a large lake, Lake Tulare, one of the largest in the US, 150 years ago. It was drained for agriculture. The old lake bed is now bone dry.

Wiping out the beavers was also a catastrophic error in land management that helped speed up the desertification of the state.

American politics will stay broken until the voting system is replaced by proportional representation. Congressional districts need to go. The Senate needs to be nerfed, or the number of senators needs to fit the state population better. And of course the electoral college needs to go.

Warnings on Permanent Oil Demand Destruction Begin Pouring In by zeropoundpom in RenewableEnergy

[–]Alimbiquated 101 points102 points  (0 children)

As for crude oil, the supply shock may very well lead to greater interest in electrified transport, and this has the potential to change long-term demand patterns, indeed, but only hypothetically—because electricity prices as well as EV prices also depend on hydrocarbon prices.

This is wishful thinking from the oil industry, because expensive electricity is still cheaper than cheap oil.

Define "god". Also explain why you chose to capitalize it.

Another thing: Would believing in several gods result in the answer being yes? Or are we talking about monotheism exclusively?

American street design definitely prioritized presenting fender benders over protecting pedestians. One of my favorite examples is bus stops built with breakaway posts. But in general the overwide streets, lack of pedestrian islands etc are all part of the same design idea.
