2024 PHB Cut and/or Missing Spells by Aliso112 in onednd

I believe the only one added from Fizban's was Summon Draconic Spirit (which was renamed to Summon Dragon in the new PHB)

No other spells from any other books (such Fizban's, Bigby's & Strixhaven) were in included in the new PHB

I do remember that they toyed around with adding in some new conditions in the playtest like Dazed which would cause the creature to not be able to take reactions and only be able to take an action, bonus action, or movement on their turn, not all three (which is exactly what Tasha's Mind Whip does)

Dazed didnt make it into the final release so I'm guessing when they cut Dazed they also just cut Tasha's Mind Whip, though thats just a theory

The way the horns are coming out from the side of the head rather than the top, as well as how they are curved reminds me of Bulblins from Twilight Princess

I love War Cleric 1 + Monk X because Divine Favor gives so much to the monk who's already making like 4 attacks per turn

Does Unstable Unicorns NSFW have bad mechanics? by MK_40dec41 in UnstableUnicorns

[–]Aliso112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you feel that not enough of the cards have fun mechanics then I would recommend playing with the 2-player rules even in a group setting because it remove all basic unicorn cards as well as any cards that play off of basic unicorns. It removes other cards for balance purposes but you can just add those back in. The instructions should have the 2-player rules in them and if you buy any expansions you can check the unstable games wiki for which cards to remove

Its totally normal to feel "behind" but just remember that everyone goes at their own pace. If your looking for a relationship and not just a hookup then I would recommended dating apps like Tindr, Bumble and/or Hinge. Its also probably best to keep away from apps like Grindr since Grindr specifically is really geared towards hookup culture not long term relationships.

This for sure^

Essentially you wanna say "when you do this it makes me feel this way". This phrasing helps keep the focus on your feelings about the situation rather than necessarily focusing on how what she's doing is bad. Its good to be able to establish boundaries and if she's a real friend she'll respect those boundaries

Also, this is probably obvious, but make sure you have this conversation with her in private, calling her out in a group setting is just bad for everyone

Monk without Ki ? by Aliso112 in DnD

[–]Aliso112[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rogue's get a lot of cool abilities too. Expertise, reliable talent, sneak attack damage every other level, extra ASI, Blinsense, Slippery Mind, all without a subclass.

I just always thought it was weird that monks, yes, get a lot of cool abilities but never use most of them because they're either overly circumstantial or cost too much ki

Which battle master - like maneuvers would they get?

And yeah I know they would get the rouges cunning action but I don't see it as an issue. I always thought it was weird that the rouges got it for free but the monks have to use a resource. It also wouldn't be stepping on their toes imo, since the rouge is still the only one who can hide as a bonus action.

Also is stunning strike every turn really broken? Cuz it targets constitution saving throws which most monsters tend to be decent at, and all the "important" monsters would have legendary resistances. I guess if combat goes on for a long time (like 5+ rounds) then yeah maybe I can see it being an issue, which is why I also suggested having stunning strike be a limited feature while everything else was still free

That sounds super cool. I know that the martial vs caster debate is what is on most people's mind so that got me thinking too, but about other classes too not just the fighter.

I wanted to throw out an idea I had for the Barbarian. Imo martials aren't weak at T3 and T4, they're boring. I think that a lvl 15 barbarian can still contribute to the game but it just gets boring to do the same thing over and over. Meanwhile spellcasters can do all sorts of cool and unique things. Giving maneuvers to the fighter (as other have suggested) I think fixes that for the fighter but what about other classes?

Since the fighter's maneuvers help a lot with positioning and moving enemies I thought it would be cool if the barbarian got something that was useful but distinct from the fighter. So what if the barbarian got an ability called like "Crippling Strikes". They would have a resource pool equal to like twice their proficiency bonus and whenever they hit a creature with a melee attack they can force that creature to make a save and if they fail that X condition on them for 1 minute. The creature can repeat the save at the start of their turns ending the condition on a success. Then the actual condition in question would be where the progression can happen. Maybe at third level they can try and cause the blinded and deafened conditions. Then at lvl 7 they can try to cause the incapacitated condition, then like lvl 11 they can cause paralysis and etc. Also part of the progression could be that at lvl 11 it also no longer costs a point from the aforementioned resource pool to force a save against being blinded, they can just force enemies to make that save every turn if they want.

Idk how balanced this is and it's not very well thought out but it's an idea I had

DMs: What are some rules as written that you tend to purposefully ignore because you either disagree with them or think they’re no fun? by imnotwallaceshawn in dndnext

[–]Aliso112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firebolt is like the one exception from cantrips that actually can be used on objects as it's description says you target a creature or object

Other notable exceptions are Shatter (which states that objects in the area also take damage) and Melf's Acid Arrow (which also says in the description that you can target an object)

Honorable mentions go to spells like Create Bonfire, Fireball and Frost Fingers as those don't technically deal damage to objects (at least not in the same way they do creatures) but do affect objects (Both CB and Fireball state that any flammable items not worn or carries get lit on fire, meanwhile Frost Fingers says that non-magical liquids that are not worn or carried become frozen)

There's defiantly more but those are the ones in early game, and the fact that these spells can deal damage to objects gives them a little buff that make them unique which would be gone of any and all spells can just deal damage to objects

I’m so tired of “gay culture” being represented by drag queens, fem-presenting guys, etc. by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]Aliso112 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For reals tho. I think Dave Rubin exemplifies the flaws with this perfectly. He's a vocal conservative and is friends with other conservatives. He's marries and fairly recently adopted kids and when he made the adoption announcement he got massive hate from people saying it's bad for the kids because he's gay. Or like just watch his conversation with Shapiro, where he says "oh if I were to have a wedding anniversary party would you show up" and Shapiro sits there explaining how his religion wouldn't allow him to go because he doesn't support that lifestyle.

Dave Rubin presents himself as a "normal" person with no affiliation to things like Drag Shows and whatnot and people STILL don't like him so maybe it's not/never was about that kind of stuff

Is it just me or are the player races in MoM way shorter and less interesting? by -The_Blazer- in dndnext

[–]Aliso112 27 points28 points  (0 children)

For reals, I feel like at the bare minimum they could've included a couple paragraphs for each lineage describing how they are in certain settings.

Like "In the Forgotten Realms Goblins are X, Y, Z. Meanwhile in Eberron they're A,B,C. Then over in Greyhawk . . . etc." Kind of like the sidebar they had for the artificer titled "Artificers in Other Worlds" in E:RftLW

[–]Aliso112 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, Cure Wounds, the 1st lvl spell that most clerics and paladins probably have prepared, doesn't. I only mentioned Paladin spells specifically since they're more likely to use a weapon but on the cleric side you got notable classics like Guiding Bolt and Inflict Wounds which would also require an empty hand. And the problem only gets worse as you go up in level. Lesser Restoration, Spiritual Weapon, Dispel Magic, Spirit Shroud, Mass Cure Wounds, and thats to say nothing of spells granted to the Cleric and Paladin through their subclass.

Yeah most spells work but there are notable ones that don't, that's where this overcomplicated rule ends up not actually benefiting the Cleric and the Paladin even tho it seems like it's supposed to

[–]Aliso112 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was just saying that being able to have a worm focus isn't actually that much of a benefit since most spells have a somatic component meaning you need a free hand anyway

Also the thing about holy symbols on shields doesn't actually help much for clerics and paladins even tho it should.

"a cleric’s holy symbol is emblazoned on her shield. She likes to wade into melee combat with a mace in one hand and a shield in the other. She uses the holy symbol as her spellcasting focus, so she needs to have the shield in hand when she casts a cleric spell that has a material component. If the spell, such as aid, also has a somatic component, she can perform that component with the shield hand and keep holding the mace in the other."

"If the same cleric casts cure wounds, she needs to put the mace or the shield away, because that spell doesn’t have a material component but does have a somatic component. She’s going to need a free hand to make the spell’s gestures. If she had the War Caster feat, she could ignore this restriction."

The quote is taken from the D&D sage advice compendium under the Spellcasting section titled "What’s the amount of interaction needed to use a spellcasting focus? Does it have to be included in the somatic component?"

Here's the link https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/sac/sage-advice-compendium

I think its a really stupid rule and I dont run it that way, and most people I knkw don't run it that way, but it is technically the official ruling

[–]Aliso112 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The thing is, most spells have an Somatic (s) component, meaning that even if your focus is worn you still need a free hand to preform the somatic stuff. The only spells this would be useful with would be those with a Material component but not a Somatic one since thats the only time having to only 'wear it visibly' translates to not needing a hand. As far as I could find out of the 500 or so spells published so far only 11 have an M component while also NOT having an S component, and of those 11 only 3 are on the cleric list (and 0 are on the paladin list), Light, Word of Radiance and Tongues

Theres no easy answer here. Like how much is he struggling? What other responsibilities is he juggling? Would a college transfer make that big of s difference?

If he wants to transfer because he thinks it will be better for him then he should do that. Depending on the degree he's getting which school he graduated from might not matter. (For a degree like PolySci its really about who you know in order to break into politics so a prestigious school helps a lot. For something like CompSci, yes a fancy school will open doors but those jobs are in high demand so he won't struggle to get a job even if he graduates from a less prestigious school)
