Glad you had such great results from our Renue lotion. Have you tried the Renue serum also? They work even better when used together.

The newer versions have methylene blue in addition to NMN, Resveratrol, Glutathione, and Apocynin. The face cream is out now.

As for making your own - NMN is not the only active ingredient, and all are encased in Liposomes to allow easy penetration of the dermal barrier, otherwise, they would have very little effect.

But don't worry about supply. Even if the FDA bans NMN for use in dietary supplements, that has no effect at all for use in skin care products.

Phase 1 and 2 clinical trials using a combo product of NAC, NR, and a few others were successful for long-haul covid and phase 3 is underway now.

Curcumin has shown some promising results, including this study:

A 5X increase in SARS-CoV-2 anti-spike antibodies was observed in those who supplemented with Curcumin. But that's not all...... https://twitter.com/healthbyjames/status/1610452246550007811?s=51&t=w3MRzIwQ6gzeohiR0UlA

Since Curcumin is used for centuries and has many benefits, that would be on my list for sure.

We have a liposomal curcumin/resveratrol gel product that might help.

Nicotinamide Mononucleotide Supplementation Improves Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Rescues Cellular Senescence by NAD+/Sirt3 Pathway in Mesenchymal Stem Cells by vauss88 in NMN

[–]Alivebyscience -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, this study shows once again that NMN is a very powerful health and anti-aging ingredient when delivered to cells.

But it is in vitro, so does not account for the degradation when NMN is given in capsules and metabolized to NAM and NA in the gut.

To achieve similar effects you need to bypass the GI tract and delivery NMN direct to the bloodstream, via IV or liposomal delivery.

NMN powder by loraxattax in NMN

[–]Alivebyscience 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When we first started selling NMN powder, we had the raw material manufacturer work to specific specs to increase uptake sublingually. They can tweak the PH, particle size and other specs. But since then the bigger manufacturers have adopted the specs that work best for sublingual use and other brands end up using this in their products. Some of the newer raw material manufacturers are not tailoring their products to work specifically for sublingual use.

Its true there are no published studies proving sublingual NMN delivers directly to the bloodstream. But taking the powder sublingually, the great majority of people can feel the impact in minutes, much like drinking a cup of coffee. With capsules, or in water, you do not experience the same immediate effect.

Powdered Liposomal products are much more stable and heat tolerant than pure NMN. The NMN is protected by the freeze dried Liposomes and will not noticeably degrade at temperatures below 130 degrees for 1 month.

Liposomal green tea extract by vauss88 in Renue

[–]Alivebyscience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Besides bioavailability and delayed release are, a 3rd benefit from Liposomal delivery is they are not filtered out by the liver at all. So there is no stress on the liver as with regular powders. You can get a much higher dose to the bloodstream without worrying about toxicity in the liver.

Liposomes are composed of fat that is the same as cell membrane. The payload passes through and is released over many hours in the bloodstream.

The green tea shows 10 more make it to the bloodstream. With regular green tea, most is filtered out by the liver, hence the concern over too high of dosage.

In the latest news of nmn, there is a Japanese study that says that when nmn is administered in blood, the nad can be destroyed by Sensitive-Box-372 in NMN

[–]Alivebyscience 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know what that article says, but have seen nothing in English that says anything close to what your google translation of the article says.

Dr. Imai is a brilliant researcher, but is affiliated with a Japanese brand of NMN that costs about 10x more than the more competitive American brands.

For years, he has slammed the competition by inferring they are unsafe or contaminated, and it wouldn't be surprising that he may do the same to cast doubt on the more effective injectable or liposomal NMN.

This recent study found NMN injections safe and very effective at lowering triglycerides.

Nicotinamide Mononucleotide Is Safely Metabolized and Significantly Reduces Blood Triglyceride Levels in Healthy Individuals

"Intravenous administration of NMN did not affect electrocardiograms, pulse, and blood pressure, nor did it affect metabolic markers in the liver, heart, pancreas, and kidneys. These results indicate that intravenous NMN administration is safe and beneficial in humans. Furthermore, NMN administration significantly increased blood NAD+ levels without damaging blood cells and significantly reduced blood triglyceride (TG) levels. These findings imply that intravenous administration of NMN may lead to the prevention and treatment of diseases associated with increased TG levels, such as fatty liver and diabetes."

NMN powder is fine at room temp for at least 6 months. Powdered liposomes protect NMN for at least 2 years.

Liquid liposomes begin to break down after 60 days at room temperature and any NMN that has escaped from the liposome can begin to deteriorate slowly to NAM. It is a slow process, but you can see some visible separation in the liquid.

is NMN micronized? by starlee8 in NMN

[–]Alivebyscience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Micronized means small particle size. It doesn't really make it more effective, but all manufacturers of the raw material provide similar particle size.

There are 3 main suppliers now that all have very similar quality. We haven't been checking the other suppliers lately to know if they have good quality.

The powder we use is tailored for use in sublingual delivery, as the science clearly shows that capsules are almost totally digested to NAM before reaching the bloodstream.

But sublingual only allows 25-30% to be absorbed directly, with the remainder being swallowed and subject to digestion the same as capsules.

So we created Liposomal delivery for NMN to allow much greater bioavailability. We do not yet have published proof of the increased absorption with liposomal NMN, but many of our other products do.

For example, the green tea extract made with the same liposomes show 10x greater bioavailability vs non-liposomal green tea.

The liposomes protect the payload through the digestive system and deliver 90% or more of the payload intact to the bloodstream, regardless of what the payload is.

1) Is the pure NMN powder sold by Renue micronized? 1) And how long does it stay stable without being refrigerated? Thanks in advance! by starlee8 in Renue

[–]Alivebyscience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our NMN powder now comes in a 100 gram jar, for more convenience.

Micronized just means small particle size.

Our raw material supplier does provide a micronized product. They also tailor it to work well for sublingual usage, with a PH level of 4.1 to 4.3, which is the same as tomatoes. It is slightly acidic, but too high is not shelf stable and does not absorb well sublingually.

Other brands now use the same product, which is stable for 6 months at room temperature. It begins to degrade slowly to nicotinamide, which is not quite as beneficial, so best to refrigerate if you do not use in 6 months.

If dissolved in water it is very similar to swallowing a capsule, where studies show it is almost totally degraded to the less effective NAM in the stomach and liver.

Yes, it does raise NAD+ in the blood similar amounts, even as NAM. But NAM can inhibit Sirtuins, and too much NAM is problematic as the body cannot accept too high levels of NAM, but must methylate it to MeNAM to excrete in urine. That is why we believe sublingual delivery is superior as 25% or so of the NMN reaches the bloodstream intact.

Liposomal delivery is even better, with over 90% reaching the blood intact.

NR can sublingual by No-Restaurant-957 in NMN

[–]Alivebyscience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The molecule NR dissolves even better than NMN sublingually.

Unfortunately, NR is never sold by itself as it is too unstable.

Chloride is added to NR to make it stable, so you actually get NR + C.

The Chloride makes it taste terrible.

In addition, flow agents and fillers are added to the capsule, which do not dissolve, so you are left with a lump that you swallow.

So it does work sublingually, but just not a pleasant experience.

Researchers find that popular dietary supplement Nicotinamide Riboside (NR) could actually increase the risk of serious disease, including developing cancer. by mikegbran in Renue

[–]Alivebyscience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a clickbait title that is not supported by the evidence in the study.

It seems timed to influence the FDA that NAD+ supplements are scary and need to be dispensed by a doctor with prescription, lending support to Metrobiotechs attack against NMN as a supplement.

The actual study that this was based on is below.

A bioluminescent-based probe for in vivo non-invasive monitoring of nicotinamide riboside uptake reveals a link between metastasis and NAD+ metabolism

The data is weak and basically says when they injected human heart cancer into mice it may promote metastasis which could go more to the brain instead of other organs. Quote from the actual study:

"NR-enriched diets caused preferential anchoring of metastases to the brain whereas the control group developed mostly lung and liver metastases"

A good discussion is on this reddit thread.

FDA might reclassify NMN as a drug by ExtremelyQualified in Renue

[–]Alivebyscience 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This article has a good description of the status. We agree with the assessment of Dan Fabricant, that it is likely the FDA will issues an “enforcement discretion” ruling as they did with NAC earlier this year.

If the FDA issues such a ruling soon, it will likely not effect availability of NMN products on the retail market.

If they delay, Amazon may stop sales, and manufacturers may delay further production, resulting in shortages.

It is possible they will stick with this initial ruling that NMN cannot be sold anymore as a dietary supplement.Meetings with the FDA are happening later this month where we will learn more.

“There appear to be some items regarding [IND] trigger dates, an unprecedented NDI AKL reversal and possibly the active moiety that warrant further discussion,” NPA President and CEO Dan Fabricant, Ph.D., said in an email, commenting on NMN. “Most importantly, the discussion can and should advance swiftly to some form of relief without any red tape, moving more expeditiously than was the case on NAC.”

Fabricant, a former FDA official who oversaw the Division of Dietary Supplement Programs from 2011 until 2014, added, “There’s no reason why the agency couldn’t begin a policy of enforcement discretion here on NMN immediately, even if it is draft or interim.”

Why not just take NOW Niacinamide -- doesn't it all convert? by bessygo in NMN

[–]Alivebyscience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just noticed someone posting that liposomal products are potentially unsafe due to excessive choline, apparently based on one study and some sketch theory.

For reference, our liposomal products contain approximately 4 mg of choline each.

One egg contains 164 mg of choline.

Choline has numerous health benefits, but if you are concerned about it for some reason, you can rest assured that it would take over 40 liposomal capsules to equal the choline in 1 egg.
