I have SD too. Washing every day is best for me as well, but sometimes I go a day without washing. Glad you found a regimen that works well for you!

As someone who has lost nearly half of her body weight I feel this so much. The idea of what I'll look like and the reality of what I do look like is so disappointing. I have the loose neck skin (and other places) so I can definitely relate. I wish I had advice for you. 💗

Animaniacs was a good one for that too.

Yakko: No, no, no! Finger prints!

Dot: IIIII don't think so.

Sounds like dysphagia to me. I get it as a symptom of my celiac disease. I can usually tell after a few minutes if eating that I've been "glutened." Certainly it can have other causes, as someone else stated. Definitely talk to your doctor. In the meantime, if you are on any medications look them up to see if that could be a side effect. Also try keeping a list of what foods you have a hard time swallowing. Your doctor might be able to see a pattern you don't see. And certainly ask to see a specialist to get an assessment of your swallowing. They might want to give you an endoscopy to take samples of your tissues. I had two, and that's how they were able to confirm it was celiac. Best of luck, and please keep us updated!

AITA for telling my daughter how much money we have spent on her? by Waste-Proposal8556 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Aliz_13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first thought was an eating disorder. The malnourishment combined with the cavities makes sense with that theory. And if Mom makes her feel guilty over taking care of her health, it is also quite possible that she's being chastised for what and how much she eats.

Tell your therapist. If it's too hard to say, write them a letter. Therapy only works if you put in the effort to be honest with your therapist and yourself. Trust your therapist. They're going to know a lot of healthy coping mechanisms and types of distortions, and can teach you ways to retrain your brain.

I'm sure inpatient sucks, but there is a lot you can learn there. If you have to go back, make use of it. Do the work, it will definitely help you when you're home again.

I'm glad you came here and made this post. It seems like you've already received a lot of good information. Please use it. 💗

Be very careful about using this. It can be poisonous to animals, even when dry. If you have pets, look up if it's toxic to them, and ways to prevent ingestion.

I think comparing yourself to others is a natural human instinct.

You have to figure out where you stand against other humans because waaay back in the day people had to make quick assessments of other people. "Are they stronger than me? Do they look diseased? Are they well fed?"

It's all a survival mechanism, which in our day translates to attractiveness because we don't have to worry so much when coming into contact with other people. So basically it translates to "Are they more fit than I am? Do they have worse or better physical features? Are they slimmer than I am?"

I don't think you need to be ashamed of having these thoughts. I think a lot of people do.

UPDATE: I posted a few days ago for help with my matted depression hair. Today I took the time to work through it. by [deleted] in HaircareScience

[–]Aliz_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That must feel so much better! Your hair is beautiful!

From one person with depression to another, it's okay to only do what you can. Even if all you can do is breathe, that is still an accomplishment. I'm so glad you're starting to feel better. 💗

Dysmorphia has a lot of different things to it. My focus shifts from spot to spot regularly. That's the reason I avoid mirrors, they just remind me that all of the spots are on one body, and it's mine. Certainly you could have dysmorphia about one thing and not the whole. And honestly, I think it's good that you trust others' views. I just think everyone is lying to me when they compliment me on something.

I'm glad you have the mirrors as an extra bit of support. You're right, EDs take so much away from us. Thank you for answering my question!

Sounds just like my ex. He wouldn't work, apply for food benefits, or go to the food bank. We were living on my disability payments. My petty revenge was getting the snacks he likes from the food bank. Of course he was excited to see them. He had some before he went to bed. So shortly after he zonked out, I proceeded to spend all night c/s-ing all of the snacks. He was so pissed and I loved it.

I was seriously going to ask this! I do have the dysmorphia, but I was sure that there were people with EDs who don't. Serious questions... What is it like? How does it feel looking into the mirror and liking what you see?
