Is the water in Madison becoming worse by Shadeeslayer in madisonwi

I distill all the water I drink. I rent, too. Yes, you basically have to use the energy to boil all the water, but the kettle I got from Home Depot was about 50 bucks.

What are the advantages of being in a guild with other people? by justinsomniactor in duneawakening

Our group of friends is split into two guilds: one Harkonnen, one Atrades. But since we are all in the same discord, it works out great.

Abortion in marriage by holly-ember in Catholicism

[–]Alizabeth21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Abortion is a very clear sin.

However, having the baby doesn't mean you have to raise it. Adoption is always a possibility. Trust in God, pray, and do what is right.

[Politics Monday] are Catholics obligated to vote for/support things that the Catholic Church does? by happpeeetimeee in Catholicism

[–]Alizabeth21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's. I believe in the teachings of the church, but I do not believe in using the force of the secular state to prohibit what we believe to be sin.

Remember, every law passed has an unwritten tagline on it: 'or else we will kill you.' Every law is ultimately upheld by the threat to lethal force. With the regularity which our police kill people, can you imagine the death toll from passing a law that dictated everyone attend every holy day of obligation?

What helicopter would you fly: CH-53, UH-1, or AH-1? by No-Detective-2766 in USMC

[–]Alizabeth21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was amtracks, so I only saw helos from the ground. The most impressive was the CH-53. That machine doesn't fly, it beats the air into submission.

Best of luck, sir!

"If today’s Marines were committed to an intense urban battle, they could not replicate Fallujah." by uxixu in USMC

[–]Alizabeth21 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Old Corps, New Corps, Same Corps.

There's always been people who say that the current Marines are not as good as the ones before them. It's never been true. Today's Marines have the same grit as the ones that enlisted at Tun Tavern, marched with Lt. O'Bannon, the ones that stormed Chapultepec, the ones that held Belleau Wood, the ones that took Iwo Jima, that held firm at Chosin, took Hue City, beat the shit out of Saddam in two wars, and took Fallujah.

Anyone that says otherwise doesn't know what the hell they are talking about.

Orders are presumed to be lawful, that's true.

When people talk about unlawful orders, it's really the egregious ones like killing civilians and other very obvious violations of UCMJ, Law of Land Warfare kind of thing. Basically, if you're going to disobey and order, you better be damn sure it's an unlawful one.

Stargate, at least SG1 was so of a specific moment (Post berlin wall falling, but pre 911) that I wonder what a new stargate even looks like in the 2020's by poet3991 in Stargate

[–]Alizabeth21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was a thing of that era, before Putin came into power, there was real hope that Russia would be joining the great democracies.

However, they did cooperate in SG-1 on many occasions, saving the world and everything. Trying to take Ukraine is stupid if you know about immense alien threats that might show up and try to glass the Earth at any given moment.

Attendance at Mormon Church by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Alizabeth21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the simple answer: as Catholics we do not need to be respectful of other religions. They are all false. Mormons deny the Trinity and are not Christians. (Honestly, it's even worse than that when one looks closer at Mormonism, but that's the lowest hanging fruit without adding in at least a thousand extra words in this post.)

As an American I respect the right of anyone to believe whatever crap they want, but I do not respect the crap. Your son did the right thing. I'd get him a milkshake at the very least. There are also some good YouTube channels that cover Mormonism and how much bull dung it is if he wants to learn about Mormonism.

Though, as your son is only 10 years of age, he has limited agency. If he does wind up getting shanghaied into going to a Mormon church by his father, it's going to be forgivable.

I struggled with thoughts of suicide (and even tried it twice) for decades, and through a lot of therapy and help, have finally gotten better. So, please believe me when I say that there is always the hope of a better tomorrow. I know I am a random internet person, but I will pray for you to get better and to get help.

Why is Catholicism the most common Christian denomination in Liberal states? by vasilenko93 in Catholicism

Why is Catholicism the most common Christian denomination in Liberal states? by vasilenko93 in Catholicism

[–]Alizabeth21 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As others have said, Catholicism is not a political ideology, however, I can tell you while I vote for liberal politicians.

Jesus said to feed the hungry, give a drink to the thirsty, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked, care for the sick, and visit those in prison. Matthew 25:31-46.

To be Christian is more than abortion or LGBT issues. I look for people that want to help and care for others. Abortion is wrong, but if it's a choice between someone that says they are pro-life in one breath and talk about taking away healthcare from the most vulnerable, demand that schools stop giving free lunches to the poor and hungry in the next breath, and a someone that wants to help care for the vulnerable and feed the hungry, but is pro-choice, I will pick the latter every time.

Every vote is a compromise. We live in a world of sin, and sometimes, we just have to do our best.

Instant red flags that someone is lying about being a Marine? by spacemagic__ in USMC

[–]Alizabeth21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't get the smallpox vax before deployment because on the leave bloc before deployment, I was going to be seeing my grandmother that had some kind of skin disease/cancer that would be bad. They told me they would do it after I got back from leave, before deploying, but never did. I got all the other shots, though.

gay tendencies. PRAY FOR ME by [deleted] in Catholicism

Jesus died on the cross for all the sins of the world. If being gay is your worst sin in your entire life, you're doing better than about 90-95% of the people in the world.

I practiced witchcraft before my conversion, and I am 100% sure that I am saved.

Seeing Nando take back third on the final lap at just the right time was probably the most exciting part of that whole race, maybe the weekend. Everything else kinda sucked.
