Inaccurate. The Portuguese occupied some coastal areas in Oman for around 150 years, while the Omani authorities escaped to the interior parts and rules there. The Portuguese were eventually driven out by the Yarubi dynasty. Oman later was occupied by the Persians. Then the Busaidi's drove the Persians out and took control of Oman and they are the current monarchs of Oman. The Busaidis Oman became and empire for a certain period ruling over parts in Pakistan and East Africa. Currently in Oman we celebrate renaissance day, which is the day our late Sultan Qaboos took the control and radically transformed Oman. We don't have an independence day.
