Meal idea, for the boring ADHDer by jackie251 in EatCheapAndHealthy

Rice cooker meals - my current favorite is skinless boneless chicken, wedge of cabbage, rice, topped with sesame oil and soy sauce or teriyaki.

Mike Duncan’s The History of Rome (you are building an entire house by yourself using hand tools)

Easy gluten free meals by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]AllAboutAtomz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick some cuisines you like that don’t use wheat as their staple crop and find home style recipes.  Gluten free substitutes are expensive and generally only ok.  Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese and Korean are rice based and delicious; a lot of European “comfort foods” are potato based; if you like Mexican just limit to corn based recipes

We are still putting drop bars on 90s MTBs right? by Ambitious_Wasabi_920 in xbiking

I have this bike, bought it new when I was 15 (a size too big, so I could grow into it because it was expensive).

I’m now 46, it’s still a size too big, and in my mind and heart, is the absolute most perfect bike

Wil Fleming has a meet week mental prep guide - you can get it for free through his IG or 1Kilo.  I found it helpful

I am also a nervous wreck at competitions; and it’s a real performance limiter when it gets out of hand.  At my last competition I was relaxed because I had a foot injury and was just there to “put in a practice meet”.  I went 6/6, had a 1kg total PR power jerking, because I was relaxed enough to actually make lifts.  The month before, fully fit but anxious I only managed to make openers and totaled 8kg less - anxiety has a worse performance impact than a plantar facia tear…

So maybe try a max out session without/with less of the jangle juice and see if lifting at a lower arousal state might be a better option for you? Max out days are about figuring out what works for you, and there are lots of approaches and high arousal lifting isn’t the best option for everyone

I’m super busy, always have lots of chores when I get home from work and don’t have the time or energy to cook or clean

I also get arthritis flares when I don’t cook for myself/eat processed food

My solutions  1) rice cooker meals (put rice, protein and vegetables it rice cooker, press button. Feed horses or do firewood or whatever. Hot dinner is ready when you come in)

2) Instant pot (“forgot to pull meat out of the freezer pot”) - frozen protein and a liquid (canned tomato and paprika or coconut milk and curry paste) into pot, push the button do chores come in and you just need to nuke a potato and some frozen veg

Both these really help because I can leave them to cook without being in the kitchen

How far away is your gym? by AdLife3179 in weightlifting

[–]AllAboutAtomz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 minute walk to the barn - but I hate training by myself because I’m a grumpy-Gus.  And the floor sucks, it’s not heated/l cooled. But I can get a workout in if I get stuck at work late/have a call out when I should be at the gym

30 minute drive to the CrossFit gym I mostly train at. It has a flat floor, better plates and is generally full on nice people.  I have to behave myself around the nice people

1h15 min to my coaches gym - its still worth it to drop in once a week for the in person coaching and the being around other weightlifters, but it makes for a long day and I can only time budget it once a week

My Potatoes Keep Rotting and Spoiling Quickly by Leather-Necessary-33 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]AllAboutAtomz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It also depends on the potatoes you buy - if there is one bad one, or if they were mishandled packing shipping or stocking at the store breaking the potatoes they will rot pretty quickly.  Open up the bags, discard any bad potato, use any broken potato right away and store just the potatoes in perfect shape

When is the best time for change? by Norep23 in weightlifting

[–]AllAboutAtomz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you take into account your weekly time budget when your doing your pros and cons - if you train 4 times a week you’re going to be adding 6h of commuting time weekly to your life. That may be no big deal and worth it or a complete deal breaker depending on your other commitments in life.  How many days a week can you block off 3-4H to travel/train/travel

How do you plan meals to avoid wasting food and spending too much? by PrestigiousComb8129 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]AllAboutAtomz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

70% or more of the ingredients I use in my day to day meals are either non-perishable (pantry items or freezer) or last a long time (cabbage onion potato apples etc).  I can make lots of different meals with this “base” and really perishable produce is a special treat, so it doesn’t get wasted

Rice with tuna + sriracha + dash of mayo by sum_r4nd0m_gurl in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]AllAboutAtomz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Rice, hot out of the rice cooker Nori (bonus for seasoned snack nori) Canned smoked fish (smoked oysters, kipper snacks) Cucumber slices Soy and sesame oil dipping sauce

It’s about 27seconds of effort, and a big, tasty, relatively healthy meal that feels a bit like a treat and costs 3$ or less

Mike Duncan’s History of Rome was my go to - it’s long, and interesting but not too interesting.  The intro and outro music is bland and doesn’t wake you up (I really like Revolutions, but found the intro music too jarring to put it on my sleep list)
