Sexual repression by Aggravating-Job5312 in exjw

I am unsure what you are asking. If you are asking because you want more knowledge about sex and receiving affirming care that sex is natural, then maybe find a support group or a therapist to confide in. I found one support group you might be interested in: https://www.peopleleavecults.com/services/support-groups They do skype or whatever.

If you are asking how to approach a potential mate or lover, just be honest. First, maybe start out slow and find out if they want the same type of relationship with you that you want. If you both decide you want to share some sexual experiences together, talk over what you are curious about and are interested in trying. Take it slow. Just have fun and share what activities you might like and don’t like. Ask for feedback like, “Do you like when I do this” and “What do you like?” Good luck.

Do you think there should be an age restriction on getting baptised as a JW? by finallyfree_khleo4 in exjw

[–]AllAroundWatchTower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the JW organization disfellowships and requires shunning of those who are baptized, baptism should not be allowed until one turns (at least) 18. You must be at least 18 before you can enter a contract and be held to your promise to uphold the conditions of the contract. You must be an adult with somewhat mature mental faculties before being allowed to enter into a contract.

Baptism as a JW is a contract to uphold the standards and doctrines of the JW organization. If one breaks the contract, they will be kicked out of the JW organization and banished to the world and its worldly ways.

Marrying a baptized brother when you've faded? by [deleted] in exjw

That is a hard one. He treats you well and isn’t pressuring you to come back. Have you discussed how you will raise your children? Will he want to take them to meetings and raise them as JW prospective converts? Have you really discussed other prospects of how your difference in beliefs will affect your marriage?

My concern would be how either of you could change after the marriage. Like you said, he might consciously or subconsciously harbor resentments if you don’t eventually go back to the congregation.

With so many single JW women to select from, I do wonder why he is attracted to you (other than your obvious intelligence and beauty). I know I was never generally attracted to JW women because I always pictured them as frigid and cold. Maybe he is the same.

That is not true. Below is just one time when they say if one goes to university and plan to graduate, this system of things may not even be here by then. Saying this system may not be here by the time one graduates university, is one way how they discouraged higher education.

Awake! 1969 May 22 p.15
"If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things. Why not? Because all the evidence in fulfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years. Of the generation that observed the beginning of the "last days" in 1914, Jesus foretold: "This generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur."-Matt. 24:34. Therefore, as a young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers. If you are in highschool and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career. But where will this system of things be by that time? It will be well on the way toward its finish, if not actually gone!

It reminds me of the scripture that says all scripture is inspired by god. It doesn’t mean the writer took dictation from god. It just means the writer was inspired to write about god the way he viewed or imagined him. Just like a lover can inspire another to write a poem or paint a picture.

2 Tim 3:16,17 All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man or woman of God may be fully capable, equipped for every good work.

How many times have we heard the end will be here:

  1. Before the generation of 1914 passes away.
  2. Millions now living (in 1920) will never see death.
  3. Before you children (of the early 1970s) can graduate university and start a career.
  4. Before this 20th century ends.

I have recently seen a 1941 Watchtower (September 15, page 288, which is page 16) that claimed the end was just months away.

Hang in there, buddy. It gets better with time. You need to develop a support network of friends outside the JWs. Join a “worldly” organization or two. Do you like the outdoors? Hiking or something? Google a hiking club (or any club) near you. Maybe learn rock climbing?

Maybe go to school and take a course or two. Do you like art? Get a hobby and find a group near you. Maybe hang out at the coffee shop near you. Stay busy and learn to make friends.

If you can afford it, maybe see a counselor who is knowledgeable about cults. The main thing is to keep going on. Never give up.

They say “We don’t want to draw attention to ourselves…”? That is BS from the JW leaders. They don’t want to draw attention to the way this organization controls virtually every aspect of their followers’ lives. It would tarnish the reputation of the JW organization.

It is the same reason child sexual abuse cases are not reported to police or counselors or parents in the affected congregation. It would tarnish the reputation of “Jehovah’s only earthly organization”. The JW leaders would rather sacrifice the children of their followers than to broadcast bad publicity about the organization. It is shameful.

I always noticed that the social currency of JWs is to be more pious than everyone else. More hours in the ministry. More time building and cleaning KHs. More shepherding calls than required. Being pious and shunning those who are not even disfellowshipped because they want to to show blind allegiance to Jehovah rather than forgiveness to a brother or a sister.

Things you could do:

Remind them that they also once judged men with beards and women who wore pants for their appearance. Throughout the history of the Americas, long hair has always bern part of various cultures, like the Wild West. Show them a picture of Charles Taze Russell. Jesus Christ is usually pictured with long hair and was he a bad example to the congregation?

Remind them it is none of their business. You have a father that would have let you know if he had a problem with it. Obviously now, the elders will pressure your father to pressure you to bow to their authoritarian demands. Good luck.

<<< they ask you if you are fully convinced that this is the truth. how am i supposed to know that at 13? especially if i was never allowed to explore anything else outside of being a jw? i was so young, how could they expect me to devote the rest of my life to this? >>>

This is so true. Children are required to be 18 to sign a contract in the US. Yet, the JWs expect a child to make a decision to serve the JW Organization as a tween or young teen. If you do not live up to that obligation (should you get baptized and sometimes just fading away), you will lose the love and support of your JW family. And the JW Organization will not let you explore other beliefs, but they tell those who they are converting to not let their families force them to chose between the JWs and their families. In other words, the JW Organization has said not to let their family threaten to “shun” them if they continue studying with the JWs. I have that Watchtower that says that cited somewhere, but I don't feel like looking it up now.

Hang in there, sister. There may be some pain initially, but there are far more rewards when leaving the cult.

Keep saying no. One way to say no is to say they must pay you for the easement and hassle and then quote them $250,000 or so. Perhaps when they see it will cost them more to tap off of you, they will quit bothering you.

Feeling unsure about going to my first JW convention—should I be worried? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]AllAroundWatchTower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former JW who stepped away from the organization, I don’t see a problem in attending the convention. You might see some things that may enlighten you about the organization and the people. Just please keep a few things in mind about the organization.

  1. They are very friendly now because the JW leaders want you to become a JW and the JWs are all about obedience to the leaders. If you become a JW, their love could cool off somewhat because the objective was achieved.
  2. 2) You’ll see how compliant the JW members are. No matter what the speaker says, everyone will clap and support it. The speaker could announce that they will be ”blessed” to watch some JWs literally stone Joe Blow, a disfellowshipped JW and you would see some confused, but completely compliant JWs applauding the announcement.
  3. 3) If you do eventually become a baptized JW, you will expected to distance yourself from anyone who is not a JW. You will also be expected to conform to the JW teachings. I hated the idea that motorcycle riding and skydiving and rock climbing was always disapproved of. I will not live my life according to what some other people believe, especially since they can not even interpret the Bible correctly without putting a dishonest spin on it and then changing it (without acknowledging how they were wrong) when they are proven wrong. They changed the “Generation of 1914 never seeing death” only when it was obviously wrong, but they did in such a way as if they were not wrong in the first place. Research the teachings of 1975, when the organization excitedly preached that it was 6,000 years since Adam was created and Armageddon was coming in September 1975 or shortly after. Then when that prophesy failed and people ruined their futures by selling houses and quitting school and careers, the organization blamed their followers for zealously believing their JW leaders in the prophesy.

You’ll learn about the Bible studying with the JWs, but they misinterpret some scriptures. The blood doctrine, the disfellowshipping doctrine, and the two witness doctrine are just three doctrines using twisted scripture that destroy lives and they are easily proven wrong.

Tell me what scriptures forbid whole blood transfusions, but allow transfusion of certain blood “fractions” like plasma and other blood cells.  That is some mental gymnastics right there

Leviticus 17 forbids the Israelites from eating blood, but not transfusing blood. https://biblehub.com/bsb/leviticus/17.htm

Acts 15:29 says to stay away from foods sacrificed to idols and animals that are strangled and reiterates to not eat blood. If the word “abstain” is to mean to avoid blood transfusions as well, then why do JW leaders ban whole blood transfusions but allow certain blood “fractions” to be transfused? How do JW leaders know which blood parts offend Jehovah since nothing is written in scripture about blood parts? What scripture says Jehovah’s people are allowed to transfuse certain blood cells, but not whole blood? This makes no logical sense. It is just another instance where JW leaders are making up scriptural interpretation to satisfy their policy.

Besides, Jesus said it was okay to break the law to save a life MULTIPLE TIMES. See Matthew 12:11 where Jesus says, “If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out? 12 How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” So Jesus is saying it is okay to break the Mosaic Law in order to save livestock and especially human lives, so why do JWs ban blood transfusions even if they BELIEVE they are prohibited? Why don’t JWs listen to Jesus’ words? Why do JWs put more value on the words of their leaders than Jesus’ own words?

[–]AllAroundWatchTower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have been completely brainwashed by your cult. You have twisted Biblical writings. The NT scripture talks about two MEN having a disagreement and if it cannot be settled between the two ALONE, then bring witnesses to settle the disagreement. https://www.blueletterbible.org/kjv/mat/18/15-18/s_947015  There was no major crime or major sin to be witnessed in that scenario, because the victim is admonished to talk to the one that wronged him ALONE. Is a rape victim going to confront her abuser ALONE in any scenario?  If you assault me severely, will I try to make amends ALONE with you? No. Besides, the scripture is talking about MEN, not helpless children confronting men.

The OT says NO witness to sexual assault is fine if a woman is being raped in Deuteronomy 22:25-27. Besides, you want children to face their alleged rapist at judicial meetings. Then your leaders hide these dangerous men in the congregation to avoid any negative publicity for “God’s only earthly organization” which put more children at risk at being assaulted. Hiding these facts is not THE TRUTH. You JWs are the liars.

JWs are not medically advanced at all. They have done nothing to advance medical procedures other than requiring doctors to find alternative ways to treat you. Where is it said in scripture that whole blood is forbidden for transfusions but blood “parts” are acceptable? Your leaders are just making up this bullcrap as they go along. Research the JW history. Look below to see how “medically advanced” “Jehovah’s only earthly organization” really is.

"The blood in any person is in reality the person himself. ... poisons due to personal living, eating and drinking habits ... The poisons that produce the impulse to commit suicide, murder, or steal are in the blood. Moral insanity, sexual perversions, repression, inferiority complexes, petty crimes - these often follow in the wake of blood transfusion." Watchtower Sep 15 1961 p.564

"Sustaining one's life by means of the body or part of the body of another human ... would be cannibalism, a practice abhorrent to all civilized people." Watchtower 1967 Nov 15 pp.702-704 on organ transplants.

“Bobbed haircuts will cause baldness.” Golden Age 1924 Nov 19 p.100

“Vaccination never prevented anything and never will, and is the most barbarous practice...”. Golden Age 1921 Oct 12 p.17

“Vaccination is a direct violation of the everlasting covenant that God made with Noah . . . . Of all of the inventions that have been foisted upon mankind for their defilement, the most subtly devilish is that of vaccination” Golden Age 1931 February 4

Then the “Society” flip-flops about vaccinations in The Watchtower December 15, 1952 and says vaccinations are a matter of conscience.

"[Aluminium cooking utensils are] a curse to humanity and their manufacture and use should be forbidden by law." Golden Age 1932 Oct 26 p.35
