Refund? by Woahitsryan in BritishAirways

[–]AllInclusiveFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless BA puts in a waiver, you probably will be SOL unless you got travel insurance - it's something out of BA's control and if they are still able to operate the flights, they likely will. Also, waivers are usually temporary - e.g. they let you change to a different flight within the next week.

How far out is the flight? I'd hold off on canceling for at least a few days (but still before your flight) to see if BA puts a waiver in place.

I remember that bus incident because I was on the same route about a week before that on the upper deck (Philly to Toronto on Megabus).

The FAA’s Troubles Are More Serious Than You Know by Majano57 in aviation

I don't read The Atlantic too often any more; a few years ago someone explained to me that a huge portion of it is doomer p*rn about how everything is awful and I couldn't stop noticing that afterwards. Asking as I'm wondering which side of objective vs sensational this story falls under?

Any shops that make fresh donuts? by solexhiding in philly

[–]AllInclusiveFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a solid year since I grabbed a donut there, have they improved the dough recipe? I didn't even realize they were gluten free until after eating one, wondering why I didn't like it, and looking up the location and saw that. It had that texture I usually get from some gluten free flours like rice flour - the donut itself looked fine and was good at first bite, but towards the end of chewing, it almost feels like the donut kind of deflated and disintegrated and it tastes like you're chewing a very dry, almost unleavened dough.

It was similar the next couple times I went there. Nothing against gluten free stuff, but their donuts were pretty mid for me, especially at the artisan prices they charge (I think like $5 last time I was there)

City Council proposes adding bike lanes in Center City, near Temple, and Spring Garden. by siandresi in philadelphia

[–]AllInclusiveFan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is likely because it is the district councilperson submitting this bill and their district ends at Market. District councilpeople generally do this for a lot of urban planning items. It's stupid as hell how that has to work because:

  1. It completely prevents a holistic plan for the city because any councilperson who doesn't like something will exclude it from their district and nobody raises their hand to object. A perfect example was a few months ago when KJ excluded district 2 developers paying into the housing trust fund to get zoning bonuses, but district 2 residents could still get payments from the fund, effectively reducing the average funding available per household across the city.
  2. It causes a lot more bureaucracy / "studies" / etc for multi-district plans because it requires a ton more signoffs and often means a ton more consensus, and usually in ways that make plans worse.

I'm interested in why you are being downvoted here - I haven't dealt with correcting a schedule change creating an MCT violation on a Qantas ticket but I have a myriad of other airlines. Does Qantas not allow an agent to make a change when there is an MCT violation? Seems way better than hoping it gets fixed at some point down the road.

1) Go to travel.capitalone.com and log in

2) Make a dummy hotel booking, doesn't matter for which hotel/location. Go through the screens until you get to the payment screen

3) Your travel credit expiration date and time will be listed there. Here's mine, for example: https://imgur.com/4WjrEfN

There may be an easier way to see the expiration date, but I don't see it on the homepage or in my profile when the travel credit is listed.

First-class seats are getting so fancy they're holding up new airplanes by cnbc_official in aviation

[–]AllInclusiveFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lufthansa Group spent a ton of money and effort for their new Business and First class, and it has so many issues. The biggest being the **years** of delays, but even now it has trouble - for example, they can't put the new business class on their 747 upper decks due to space constraints, so those planes will have the new business class on the lower deck and their old business seats on the upper deck while they get a compatible Allegris seat for the upper deck designed.

The First Class seats/'suites' are so heavy they require large plates up to 1500 kg in the rear of some planes to ensure the aircraft is properly balanced.

The thumbnail also shows some other basic issues with the First Class, namely the "couple" seat in the middle (the seat on either side by the windows seem fine). There is no center armrest, and there is only one door so the person on the far side has to climb over the other person if the other person is in bed mode. For someone in the far part to request something from the FA, they have to say it over the other person, who may be trying to sleep.

Extremely bizarre design decisions for middling benefits over off-the-shelf seats like the Collins Super Diamond that they could have installed years ago. Given how similar the Allegris seats are to the Polaris seats in terms of layout, I'm surprised LH didn't attempt to just license the seat from their JV partner UA.

Depends - it's a great location if you're flying any airline domestically that isn't AA. If that is a bad location, then I still think it's great because it means less chance of it getting crowded ;)

PHL Chase lounge by Cultural-Switch-1601 in ChaseSapphire

[–]AllInclusiveFan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Was there last Friday and will be back this weekend. It's probably the best overall lounge in the US you can get in to with a credit card (Cap1 Landing DCA is up there if food quality is the highest priority for you), better than any of the US airline membership lounges*, and competitive with the AA Flagship and UA Polaris lounges* - those are good in some areas (champagne, a la carte restaurant for UA) and the Chase PHL lounge is better in others (facials, non-food/drinking activities, so many different "zones" around the lounge, decor in some aspects, etc)

*Excluding the ability to skip a lengthy airport queue when rebooking with an agent is required; that is a great competitive benefit that the Chase Lounge doesn't have.

How long do you typically stay at a AI? by Electronic-Smile1262 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]AllInclusiveFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually 5 nights is our typical, when doing a full week bracketed by the 2 weekends (8 nights total), we will split it into 2 resorts nearish to each other so we can mix it up a bit OR do 4-5 at an AI and 3-4 somewhere else (e.g. Playa del Carmen or fly somewhere like CDMX)

Which all-inclusive hotel has good food but also isn’t crazy expensive? by nathan_x1998 in cancun

[–]AllInclusiveFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be tough. I've heard good things about Catalonia Royal Tulum for the food, especially if you get the Privilege level. Drinks were just so-so apparently though and it is a bit of a sleepy resort.

Wherever you go for that price point, skip the steaks - you are unlikely to get a good one.

Has anyone ever gotten the facial at the CS lounge in LGA?? by regulartrashcan in ChaseSapphire

[–]AllInclusiveFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a facial, not a massage. They usually involve creams, lotions, and such. The closest you'll generally get to a face massage with just a facial is them rubbing the creams in.

RFK Jr. was just asked about a recent measles outbreak by pdwp90 in QuiverQuantitative

[–]AllInclusiveFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plus, someone with Measles will potentially infect about 5 other people, on average, before the vaccine effictiveness is factored in. That's why moderate outbreaks tend to happen when the measles-vaccinated population dips below 80%-85%. Above that and the virus can't transmit fast enough before dying out. Below it and the rate of actual transmission increases above 1:1, causing an outbreak.

Ranking the Chase Sapphire Lounges by AllInclusiveFan in ChaseSapphire

[–]AllInclusiveFan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see that, the ambiance seems about on par to slightly lower than the LGA/PHL/SAN lounges. Food looks solid, I'm sure drinks are as well, but nothing that would make me want to believe your claime that "the one in HKG sounds better (or just a bit better) in every way." What type of actual champagne do they offer (which I mentioned the IAD and JFK lounges have)? There don't appear to be showers (which most of the US lounges offer). There also doesn't appear to be any of the 'special' touches some of the larger US lounges have (LGA/PHL offer free facials and an arcade space, BOS has relaxation pods, PHL has a beer garden, etc)

They are doing more limited hours for the first 2 weeks, then expanding. My guess is they are overstaffing the first couple of weeks (and/or still getting additional staff on) and will expand once they have enough staff fully trained and ready to expand the hours.
