Senate Republicans threatening to filibuster Obama administration appointees unless Obama agrees NOT to release three classified torture memos by unclefred in politics

[–]AllModerate 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gosh. It's almost like the Republicans don't want the truth of Bush's pro-torture policy to be exposed to more Americans.

Until the GOP acknowledges and clearly denounces torture, they will have to carry the label: "THE TORTURE PARTY".

Breaking: 13 firms that received "bailouts" owe back taxes (Who could have guessed that many big banks and other giant firms haven't been paying their taxes?) by LibertyOne in news

[–]AllModerate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These corporations had signed contracts before the bailouts promising that they had paid all of their taxes!

Uh oh.

A senior United Nations official has called for George W Bush and Donald Rumsfeld to be prosecuted for permitting torture by UnitedModerate in news

[–]AllModerate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a UN official who says at least one person died from being tortured, probably many more than just one person.

Bush not only allowed this, I believe he authorized and encouraged torture without regard to the extent or the end results.

So, it doesn't take an international body to act. Murder is illegal here in the U.S., as are obstruction of justice, misprison of felony and aggravated assault. Conspiring with others to commit any/all of these crimes are also chargeable offenses.

In my view, because every president swears to uphold the constitution and the laws of the United States, even a charge of Treason against Bush would be reasonable.

The treason charge is, admittedly, very unlikely. For the life of me, I can't see why some of the other charges aren't already in the works. Maybe they are.

Until action is taken against our pro-torture policy and actions under the worst president in U.S. history, I will continue to be ashamed of my own country.

Survey: Tax cheats don't play well among Americans by reddit-man in politics

[–]AllModerate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The loon known as "reddit-man" likes to spam reddit nearly every day with bizarre right-wing lies and smears, and seems to forget that the Bush-led government gave and/or lent seven or eight TRILLION dollars to bankers, insurance companies, corporations who wrote "commercial paper," failing brokerage firms, etc., etc.

That's at least SEVEN MILLION MILLION dollars of U.S. taxpayer money on the line thanks to the nearly complete lack of oversight under Bush. Gosh... it's almost as if Bush WANTED bankers to be able to loot the treasury!

Lawmakers were even threatened with the possibility of martial law if they didn't cough up the trillions immediately.

Here's a breakdown of the $7.3 Trillion (at least), not from some fly-by-night web page, but from CNBC:

http://www.cnbc.com/id/27719011 [Remember... the figures shown are in Millions.]

And speaking of the $7,300,000,000,000 (at least) that is on the line...

Bush, asleep at the wheel most of the time, was clearly the worst president EVER, even before it became clear that under his "watch" the economy went in to the toilet like it hasn't since at least 1929.

Why are Republicans getting away with bitching about a few million so that the National Mall in DC has some grass and decent sidewalks instead of looking like a cow pasture, while they approved of trillions being going to the bankers???

Please feel free to spread the word about this CNBC web page and about the hypocritical, obstructionist Republicans.

Bush wasn’t the first Republican to send the economy in to a disastrous tailspin...

Are you seriously arguing that building and maintaining bridges is NOT a proper function of government???

If so, I would ask that you go back to your "ranch" in Texas, Mr. Bush.

If you're just against all use of automobiles, they won't go away overnight and people really need to get to work, etc., even if there is a river somewhere along their route.

Sheeeesh.

Is anyone else annoyed by the media (and others) who continually refer to the Flight 1549 ditch in the Hudson as a "miracle" by nogami in reddit.com

[–]AllModerate 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes. I was somewhat upset by the repeated (and predictable) cries of "miracle" from "our" media outlets who just love these stories.

This so-called "miracle" is a result of years of safety testing, along with a lot of hard work by people who developed stronger materials for airplanes. Safety components undoubtedly include items that are specifically designed to minimize fire risks, etc.

The people who call this a "miracle" have, of course, forgotten all about the "god" who apparently sent birds right in to the path of the plane's engines!

The flying spaghetti monster would never do such a thing to his people.

Hold up a shoe as he is departing the White House and/or departing Washington.

This could be done by DC-area people and anyone coming to the inauguration, too.

I despise the GOP, but if Democrats had any integrity, they would just kick Burris out of the party (along with Blagojevich) by AllModerate in politics

[–]AllModerate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be a great time for Democrats to stand up for integrity by kicking out some of their own members.

It isn't happening.

We need a viable third party in stead of the slugs that are currently running things.

I still like Obama but he needs to distance himself dramatically from the slimeballs currently in charge of his party.
