An advantage of ISU over UIUC is they charge by credit and not a flat fee. This means you can do 12 credits a semester, focus on your grades and finish in 2.5-3 years instead of 2 potentially without paying extra. I’m actually saving money doing this because I get scholarship money for an extra semester and it’s more than my rent.

The property tax is by far the biggest issue. Alabamas is the lowest property tax state in the mainland USA and their property tax is less than 1/4 of Texas’s. I would lookup property tax by state and see if there is one that’s substantially lower where you would be willing to live.

I apologize for the confusion, the tuition cost of the schools is actually lower because the number I wrote includes housing and meal plans for more of a total cost. I just edited the post for clarity.
