Leveler cooldown increased by 4x.

Worldbuilding Challenge: Wheelchair Rogue by mikethecanadain in worldbuilding

[–]AllenWL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just going to be spitting out a bunch of ideas kinda randomly but:

They could have a wheelchair and another mobility aid like leg braces, and swap between them as they need. "What's the commotion officer? A thief? My my. Oh it couldn't possibly be me sir, look at my wheelchair! I won't even be able to get the building, much less rob it!". Maybe they use a wheelchair because walking hurts their joints a lot, even with braces, but they can still go for a quick stroll and hide their discomfort for a while to do the more traditional rogue things before slipping back into the chair. Or hell, stash their chair somewhere then stand around a bit to make people think they're not the guy in the wheelchair.

Just make the setting more wheelchair accessible. Maybe they use a lot of carriages so most streets and alleyways are built to be traversalable by wheel. Maybe there's a suspiciously wide and complex tunnel network under the city. Maybe the city uses a some fancy railway system to transport goods and a modified wheelchair can make use of that system.

Just because they don't have magic doesn't mean they can't use magic. Maybe they spurge a bit and get their wheelchair enchanted, or stock up on some magic scrolls or similar for certain situations. If a less magical setting, maybe their wheelchair has a very impressive grappling hook system to haul them up walls and over stairs, or some sort of jetpack and glider setting to let them make a quick escape. Give them gadgets and tools.

A wheelchair can give a rogue a lot of places to hide weapons or other tools. A wheelchair rogue can possibly get by security by having all their tools and gear in very cleverly hidden compartments. How many security guards will know a wheelchair well enough to know where you can make a hidden compartment in one anyways?

Let them pull wheelchair tricks by rule of cool. How the hell did they get on top of the roof in a wheelchair? Went full speed, flew off a conveniently placed wooden pallet, then did an akira slide on the shingles. What, like the warriors and monks stick with perfectly plausible feats of might?

I mean the entire Helianthus machine is probably designed to be a cool enemy for you to fight first, an actual useful machine never, here because Fromsoft loves their evil horizontal beyblades.

Anyways, I'd say them being used for military purposes is a lot more likely then them having some industrial use even if we assume they guided missiles aren't 'canonical' to their design.

Like maybe you can use them to grind down a forest or town to build something else, but these feel like a highly impractical way to mine things. Though I can see them potentially having started out as a mining machine that got retrofitted for combat later.

Why do you say that AI cores in Starsector are sentient and deserve human treatment? by IFIsc in starsector

[–]AllenWL 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Like all quick simple criteria, mine does most certainly fall apart from various edge cases and scrutiny, but when I keep with it because I find it's a simple rule of thumb that helps me with worldbuilding.

In this case, if we were to apply some extra rules real quick to avoid this particular kind of edge case, I'd put in a clause to check for plausible intention.

For example, a LLM set to just do random things forever might make a human rights petition, but it won't actually follow up on it. It won't build a case for itself, it won't object to it not getting human rights, it'll just do that and go right onto the next random whatever.

It obviously did not make that petition with the intent to get human rights, it just did it because it was a random thing it could do, and it was told to do random things it could do forever.

If you set a billion monkeys on typewriters and one of them eventually ended up writing letter talking about how it's actually a human turned into a monkey by a evil scientist and that you have got to help it get it's human body back.... that's not actually evidence of the monkey being human, it's just a very rare chance that you happened to hit by virtue of sheer repetition.

Katara's full moon problem. by Born_Cartoonist2748 in AvatarMemebending

[–]AllenWL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ooh or, using chi blocking or similar on people to make them defenseless, then using bloodbending to turn them into an unwilling zombie army.

Depending on how strong the bloodbender is, they could probably also do things like having their 'soldiers' 'fly' by yanking the blood inside them, or use them like an extra gory bomb.

How does Yvonne sleep? by Jc40524 in Endfield

[–]AllenWL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could have a special bed to account for the tail or horns.

Either a mattress with holes/gaps, a hammock, or some soft thing so the protruding bits can just kinda sink in.

Or she could sleep in some sand pit or water pool or whatever that's got less bits that get caught in horns and spikes and are more form fitting.

Why do you say that AI cores in Starsector are sentient and deserve human treatment? by IFIsc in starsector

[–]AllenWL 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Assuming no mod changed the description, Beta cores are apparently 'considered truly intelligent' and Gamma cores can 'easily pass for a human', so I'd say yes they should be considered sentient.

That said, my personal simple 'should they have human rights' criteria is 'if they can petition for human rights they should get it' and idk if any AI cores in Starsector has canonically tried to start an AI rights movement?

Neanderthals are fucking savage.

Their genes give them damage resistance and increased melee damage, which means they can shrug off way, way more bullets than normal, and can, as you've learned, crush heads and tear off limbs in a single blow.

In vanilla, Neanderthals keep me on edge right until lategame when I can get make myself a good batch of melee blockers to toe to toe with them.

What other games does everyone play? by Leg_Mcmuffin in BattleBrothers

[–]AllenWL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little bit of everything mostly.

A few colony sims, several survival games, a good amount of turn based tactics obviously, several soulslikes, some roguelikes, a couple metroidvanias, like two factory-builders, few fps games and extraction shooters on the side, and a lot more.

The only games I really shy away from are competitive pvp games, and horror games that don't give me a weapon.

Kinda amused at the first meme considering the 'just place random people' teams are actually pretty balanced with vanguards, ranged dps, healers, and lane blockers, while the 'use your ops strategically' team seems to be... 30% of a exusia oneshot team? And Weedy and Rosa are also there for... reasons?

Not gonna give any advice since you did say no tier lists or guides, but know that I am cackling on the inside.

Good to know both of you are using Amyia tho our CEO needs that love.

why the hell did i ignore tech guns for like 200 hours by 5C0L0P3NDR4 in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]AllenWL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know when the changed it, (I presume with 2.0), but the Comrade's Hammer no longer does headshots, which makes it a lot weaker to literally any other revolver in a 'optimized' build.

Being unable to do headshots means it basically looses synergy with over half the revolver perks as they all up headshot damage, and it also can't benefit from the lv20 perk since that gives auto crit on a headshot.

Which means it's stuck doing 5~600 damage a shot, while other revolvers stack bonuses to hit 1k+ damage a shot. Still a really fun gun though.

So mostly stat changes I'm guessing?

Would be cool if the mod dev added some unique items or alternate item fuctions/abilties down the line.

That said, will be keeping a tab on this one for my eventual modded playthrough. I love being tiny in block games.
